Photo Evidence This thing lives in my head rent-free

Post image

Happened in 2018, I saw it one more time after this haven’t since. I used to go to haunted places and do stupid rituals for fun/i wanted to see something. Once I did, and especially after this, I never wanted to again. Nothing has happened now for years!

In an effort to improve submission quality, we are now manually reviewing photos before they appear in the subreddit. If your submission does not have good reason to be considered potentially paranormal it may be removed with a reason provided. Please be patient, as the subreddit gets a lot of activity and it may take a little time to review your post. If we do remove your post, it’s because we believe it is likely to be judged harshly by the subreddit as opposed to a determination over what the true nature of your experience was. It’s very difficult to capture objective evidence of even true paranormal phenomenon, which is why there’s so little of it out there! Please review the camera flare guide to help us maintain our high post quality.

I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please contact the moderators of this subreddit if you have any questions or concerns.

What do you think it was? It’s definitely really creepy, I get a bad feeling looking at it 🫣

763

u/IllustriousDebt6283 Dec 21 '25

When I showed people in high school, they said it looked like me, but I always thought it looked like my mom. I have zero idea what it could’ve been and no amount of google searches brought answers. I tried posting on Reddit about it multiple times over the years but it would always get taken down so I kinda gave up on finding out

250

u/thesaddestpanda Dec 21 '25

Please describe the ritual and who took the picture at the time and why take the photo right there and then? Did people see this with their own eyes too? What else happened?

448

u/IllustriousDebt6283 Dec 21 '25

So I took the photo for streaks, I always took it over my shoulder because I was self conscious at that age. The ritual was the red book game, I’ll add a link for how it’s played. Everything went fine and I quit earlier on because I was getting spooked, but we played it in my room and toward the end I had a glove that was grabbing the back of my friend’s dress, hard. She screamed, took about 15 minutes for her to end the game properly, and we never messed with it again. Other than that I had friends see stuff with me in haunted places, haunted tours, etc around that time but the glove thing was the only thing someone else was there for at home.

130

u/thesaddestpanda Dec 21 '25

Oh wow, did the activity go away on its own?

272

u/IllustriousDebt6283 Dec 21 '25

It did, but after doing all of that stuff I went down a really, really dark path until I was 21. Not sure if it related or if it was my upbringing, but my now-husband thinks it was probably both. I dabbled way too much in the paranormal back then

100

u/VaIanor Dec 21 '25

spirits can and will influence you if you're not covered by the blood especially if you did these rituals and literally got them open doors on you and your friends

42

u/earthboundmissfit Dec 21 '25

Covered in who's blood? Please elaborate.

86

u/[deleted] Dec 21 '25

The blood of a disingenuous redditor.

BEWARE

87

u/justanotherdaymmkay Dec 21 '25

It's funny that Christians rail against blood magic rituals while engaging in them on a regular basis.

In my experience, in sensitive folks with darker backgrounds, inviting this stuff into your life usually has negative effects for your mental health. My sister was REALLY into Ouija boards and had a lot of weird things happen in front of groups of people. She also became heavily alcoholic for about 5 years in her twenties and got stuck in two successive violent relationships. I used to do Tarot and it was eerily accurate, but I also had a very dark period and am doing much better 6+ years on not dabbling in that anymore.

When I was a kid growing up in a conservative Christian household, we used to do this with the Bible. We would just be like "Lord, please give us a sign! (Insert question here)?" And then we would close our eyes and open a random spot in the Bible and point to a random place.

138

u/TenLongFingers Dec 21 '25

Yeah, with what OP was saying, I thought it'd be something spookier lol. This is just basic bibliomancy, which I also did all growing up with the Bible. Connected with something that comforted me and helped my decisions.

Ritual is like that though, if you vibrate "spooky" you'll probably attract "spooky"

66

u/fart-atronach Dec 21 '25

Noted. Attune vibration to “spooky” mode.

9

u/nefarious_throwaway Dec 25 '25

Careful with that. You’ll almost certainly bite off more than you can chew.

wtf… today I said “there must be a ghost in the machine” to my bf when he was talking about some appliance acting strangely. I haven’t said that in ages, if ever 🤨

45

u/GreenlyCrow Dec 21 '25

I started rereading Lady Knight by Tamora Pierce today that deals with ghosts in machines and just paused to scroll reddit briefly.

Repairman: racks shotgun, slams truck door "Dishwasher's haunted." Peels out

Last year I was googling ghost in the machine because I was curious about the phrase Maybe an hour later my mom was complaining about her cellphone acting weird and she told me it was probably "the ghost in the machine"

We were both super weirded out

This seems like basic bibliomancy. It shouldn't awaken spirits. Where were you?

52

u/crashv10 Dec 21 '25

As a practicing witch, the only reason I could see that might happen is due to intent. Because this ritual is laid out as a "game" with the intent/belief that it will call spirits to answer your question, a spirit might genuinely take them up on it, even though it is otherwise basic bibliomancy.

Basically, if they walked up to a book, picked it up, asked a question they wanted answered, and turned to a page, they would be fine. But leaving an open invitation like that game would have you do, I could see something potentially deciding to answer, especially if you haven't warded or grounded

10

u/Old-Complaint-7308 Dec 21 '25

I couldn’t have agreed more. The only time I have ever had a very concrete experience with paranormal activity is when my fear was very apparent. I was watching lots of paranormal videos and then stayed at an old creepy beach house and my fear was exposed. Nothing else has happened ever since I stopped thinking about it constantly.

Doppelganger. Could also be a Mimic but I think Mimics only sound like you or someone you know (or an object, there was this one video of a Mimic pretending to be someone's ringtone. They're getting smarter)

The Doppelganger is a Demon who will always manifest as a twisted mirror version of yourself or someone you know to lure you into a false sense of security.

That said, all Demons can shapeshift and mimic you or a loved one, but the Doppelgangers do it consistently.

What’s the context of the photo, why the camera pointed at the door w/o your face? Did you know something was behind you and you were trying to capture it?

370

u/IllustriousDebt6283 Dec 21 '25

I was taking Snapchat streaks (I was 15) it was a quick photo so I didn’t register until I went to type ‘streaks’. Promptly flipped my shit and sent it to my mom. I wasn’t trying to catch something, and only one creepy thing had happened at home maybe a month prior when my friend and I played the red book game

72

u/MuteMouse Dec 21 '25

Was this on android or iPhone? Just because I'm pretty sure on android it takes a screenshot of the camera image not an actual photo, not that that explains anything but noticed that alot of paredoila in alot of photos here were from Snapchats

179

u/_OngoGablogian Dec 21 '25

hopefully Reddit doesn't nuke the quality, but i tried to brighten it up too with a bit more clarity than the first guy. the body shape and the way it's leaning into the room are very unnatural and the hand almost looks like two hands clasped together.

the hair is what's getting to me though, it looks exactly like yours circa the time of the pic

132

u/adhdsuperstar22 Dec 21 '25

I think it looks like it’s either doing a spiderman web shooting thing or doing 🤟but maybe I’m just overly optimistic 😂

133

u/Ethric_The_Mad Dec 21 '25

It just looks like a lady popping in the door saying she left her windows down

82

u/hhfugrr3 Dec 21 '25

Glad I'm not the only one thinking that looks exactly like a woman sticking her head around the door. The ghost seems to have dark hair, a red top and black leggings on. Feels like a case of teenager didn't notice mum or sister come in. Is that unusual? Well I've elicited several terrified screams from my daughter who failed to notice me calling her, then shouting for her, then walking a few inches behind her while constantly calling her name.

22

u/bigoldeva Dec 21 '25

IF paranormal things actually exist, it’s more than likely these girls opened a portal they didn’t close properly and let some bad spirits in. These things can take the form of whatever they like. So, let’s say this spirit targeted OP and wanted to drain her life force or be a general negative influence in her life. Why? Because the spirits are jealous that we’re alive. We get to feel, experience, cry, laugh, suffer, feel joy, none of which exists in spirit land. It would make sense the entity would take the form of OP. Shadow person if you will. The entity wants to look like OP to better gauge itself to drain her, curse her, influence her decision making just enough that she is in constant suffering, which the entity feeds on. Jealously and hunger are why this spirit, if it is in fact a spirit, showed up looking like OP.

51

u/CreamyHampers Dec 21 '25

Why is the pixelation so different between the thing and the surroundings? Is that from your brightening?

25

u/Irrelevant231 Dec 21 '25

That's just how digital images work, at low brightness there are a lot fewer individual colours from the 16 million in standard colour depth, so a lot will be close enough they just become blocks of the same colour under compression.

Brightening the image later can't separate them, because that information has already been lost.

This type of artifacting is indeed a common indicator of digital photo manipulation.

Also not an expert.

8

u/IllustriousDebt6283 Dec 21 '25

Idk what artifacting is, but isn’t it possible for someone to verify whether or not it’s edited or something? I’ve seen it done on other posts

23

u/embis20032 Dec 21 '25

I ran a few forensic photo analysis tools and nothing suspicious. It is incredibly difficult to edit an image of a lossy origin and superimpose something without disrupting the jpeg error level of the image. So I'm going to say it's most likely real.

Also it’s wearing socks.

17

Dude wtf. That’s creepy that whatever it is got worse.

3

u/Past_Fun2319 Dec 21 '25

Looking at this I see a lion face and hand almost like a beastly looking creature dressed in human form.. if you noticed that the legs are in the hallway and only upper body leaning forward thru open door almost like cant come in but sniffing his way in if allowed!! It is a very disturbing image. I suggest a cleansing ritual around you and your house to bring balance and harmonY back in the house and around you.

Sorry - I have a few questions. Why were you taking a picture at that moment?

Did you see it reflected in a mirror?

Were you or are you facing it at this moment?

Did you happen to turn around and there it was and you took a pic at that moment?

Was it moving or static?

Thank you!

29

u/IllustriousDebt6283 Dec 21 '25

It was for streaks on Snapchat

I could’ve sworn I saw it in the reflection of the oven at my grandmas a year later, but can’t say for sure I may have just been jumpy and seen wrong

I wasn’t facing it

I took the pic, then noticed

I have no idea, I wasn’t paying attention until after taking it

I know this isn’t the most helpful info, but it’s the best I’ve got!

Are you sure it isn’t your mother? I man it looks like someone poking her head in to yell at you or something.

24

u/IllustriousDebt6283 Dec 21 '25

She for sure wasn’t home, I texted her about it immediately and then she called me

31

u/Wonderful_Praline291 Dec 21 '25

The rational explanation is that this is your mom and you're misremembering it or have the details mixed up somehow.

Did you take the photo and then immediately recognize the woman in the back? Why would you casually text your mom if you thought she was there in your room literally a second earlier?

23

u/IllustriousDebt6283 Dec 21 '25

I was freaked out and didn’t want to move at all, I just asked her if she was at my doorway a minute ago and sent her the pic. My memory is totally clear, and the details haven’t changed at all. Only other person it could’ve been was my brother who was in the next room over. He said he didn’t see anything but him and I used to prank each other often. If it was a prank, he played it off well but I wouldn’t totally put it past him

57

u/JacOfAllTrades Dec 21 '25

Maybe send him the pic like, "Remember when you did this lol?" It's been almost a decade, I feel like he'd probably own up if it was him, there's no reason not to. He can pretty much say, "Yeah haha", or "What are you talking about and that's creepy af." Either way, you have your answer.

This could either be a spirit that lived in this house before you did or it could be an evil spirit. I’m not really that much of a psychic who can always sense what a spirit is but in this case I don’t feel like it’s a demonic spirit but I also don’t feel the safest looking at it, it’s almost like a sickening feeling about it.

18

u/IllustriousDebt6283 Dec 21 '25

Interesting with you saying people said it looks like you and you think your mom I can’t help but to wonder if you possibly had brought a mimic back with you for whatever reason, thankfully at that, it left sooner then later. u/L1QU1D_ThUND3R Dec 21 '25

Don’t do that! There are planes of intangibility and uncertainty that lay parallel to our own. When you do “rituals” like that, it’s an invitation to for entities to use your mind as a gate. And so long as it “lives rent free,” that gate is wide open. Giving something thought, gives it power/influence over your mind. So stop giving it your thought! Also keep some talismans around (objects that have emotional significance to you, like they open up powerful memories), they can help if it comes back. Because talismans help strengthen resolve in yourself, which is the real key to keeping those fuckers out.

People are so eager to witness the unobserved, until they find it. So no more poking the vast unknown with a stick, okay?

Ok so no sheets or comforter messy room dark. Pretty sure this is a tweaker house, drug den, alcoholics ( i am one) adhd so many reasons for that room that looks like that. That looks like a skinny female form entering. I dont believe this is paranormal just paranoia

If this is you op then my logical guess is someone thought you were sleeping and tried to rob you while you slept but realized you were not and backed out thinking they were not seen

EDIT: yeah i was never a teen my room was spotless (yall had lazy druggy parents)

6

u/queerty1128 Dec 21 '25

Really? Coz honestly to me it looks like the room of a lazy 15 year old. I used to sleep without sheets all the time when I was young, and also had a messy room 60% of the time.

I also have been around a tweaker house and drug dens... they're usually more messy or more bare than this. Usually more messy with less furniture.

15

u/IllustriousDebt6283 Dec 21 '25

Dude what? I was 15? This is the wildest assumption I’ve ever seen. My room was messy and I didn’t have sheets. Nobody was ‘tweaking’ and I’d maybe touched weed a couple of times

I hate to say it this way but come on, that's an actual person leaning in. Why would an entity have to go through an open door like that?

Among the all the other "wrong" things going on with this pic the 2 that stand out to me would be the lack of light on the face. There's obviously a flash from the phone. And a caucasian face reflects a substantial amount back.the second is the placement of the feet as compared to the upper torso. The one foot you can clearly see, seems to be a 1'-2' past the threshold into the hallway. To have your entire upper torso and head in a room while your feet are outside would normally suggest being in significant motion. You couldn't just be standing there that way. But nothing else about the figure is pointing to it moving at such a pace. It is an unsettling shot for damn sure.

u/spharker Dec 21 '25

Could be fae. I worked at a mental health facility way out in fae wild once. Saw some crazy shit but nothing so overt as actual fae save for years later. Someone accidentally brought a fairy gate into the house and it tried copying my roommate late at night (got stuck on the face and movement so it was a mess). When I exposed it to bright light it ran away but it was sincerely one of the creepiest damn things I'd ever seen. Basically that's one of the things they like to do is copy people (see how the other half lives) and that thing in the back is a dead ringer for you.

All I see is a picture of a woman walking into your room after having just opened the door. They're mid-step and that's either their left hand up where they pushed the door open or they're carrying a cat. This doesn't look spooky or unnatural to me, just a blurry motion shot.

9

u/DiveIntoItPodCast Dec 21 '25

Same. I went on 2 ghost hunts for a (no promo I never published) YouTube channel I was trying to start. I got excellent paranormal evidence at my 2nd location (graveyard). From moans to something blowing me a kiss into my mic (dji wireless 2). Well something followed me home. We’ve seen them twice it’s 2 dudes. Harmless but still weird af.

Oh boy dont I have a story to tell, i am a 28 year old woman, and i am afraid of the dark. But the reasoning is something specific, me and my mom used to have sleepovers with each and i would sleep in her bed with her, my mom loves sleeping in the dark with a tv on, but the tv had a timer on it and turned it off, one time i woke up in the middle in the night, I opened my eyes and there was a weird figure standing over me, felt like it was levitating over my body, it didn't feel like it was on top of me but it was just levitating over me, i eventually got scared and i closed my eyes again, i started peeking through and its still there, looked like a female figure or someone with reallly fluffy hair, eventually I just went back to sleep, i didn't want to move or speak, i was scared if i moved it would get upset i went to sleep again. Sleep paralysis? Idk but shit waas weird

5

u/TheBestJesusChrist Dec 21 '25

Just looks like your mom coming in to bother you lmao

3

u/PianoSuspicious7914 Dec 21 '25

Looks like your mom leaning into your room. Saying come on make your darn bed and let’s get going. As she has her thumb pointing out of the room. A small edit. Remove some shadow and change in contrast makes a huge difference.

Been telling people not to play with fire when they don't know what they're doing...

I am spiritual, but in the Catholic sense and an a youth leader for many years. We are trained to take spiritual warfare seriously especially on venues and retreats.

I normally just seek the lost (dead souls) and pray for they to move on. Sometimes it attracts demons and other entities and gets angry about it. I have been attacked and one tried to press my chest in my sleep that I can't breathe (I was half asleep and was aware of my surroundings). They just disappear dissapointed when they attack me, since I dont get scared. I just normal say, I am one with God and you can't do anything. They did appear after 3 times normally.

I have a few other wild stories with demons.

Though I can’t see your face, I for some reason thought it was you walking into the room.

Possibilities that come to mind;

You astral projected and visited yourself at a different time while you were astrally traveling

u/PleaseStayStrong Dec 23 '25

Wow, a peeper that took a form that was likely trying to emulate you, I have never seen such a thing before despite seeing these things. The correct term for them is Shedim but I have called them peepers since I was little. What you have captured is truly remarkable. While their shape shifting abilities are well documented I have never seen or even heard of one ever trying to be a mimic to the person it is directly observing.

This is so interesting. To be clear you almost certainly were in no danger it is extremely rare for these to act out and when they do its usually when you provoke them. But wow, you have captured something truly special here. At best you typically see them taking shadow human forms or even slightly more complex but never something like this. They love door ways and empty rooms because they can easily peep from it and retreat (they are immensely fast) They can be a bit mischievous at times like hiding things or doing things like making lights flicker (sometimes as a response if they wish to reveal themselves to some degree) noises that cannot be explained that kind of thing so if you experienced any of those things during this time it is likely the cause.

Don't worry about long term hauntings or anything from them. They aren't like that, they are more like curious travelers wanting to observe and that takes them place to place. Very common, mostly harmless, they are intelligent beings, they have personalities and feelings so do try to be respectful if you ever encounter another. If you want to speed up their departure leaving them a gift (doesn't have to be anything fancy or of value) is a way to do so as they love gifts and just the offer of one even if they don't take it often makes them not want to pester you.

I am honestly jealous that you were visited by one so special. Their for lack of a better word 'power' varies greatly and this one is way up there compared to most. Like if this was a scale of 1-10 this thing is easily a 7. Shape shifting is something they all do but this complex is top level. Lower levels will lurk playfully, this is not playful this is something else, not hostile as you would have shared such things if it was. It is so confident that its not even bothering to simply peep but actually go into the same area as you. Just to let you know if this was a 8+ it would have been confident enough to enter that room fully and not even cared if you noticed and maybe even would have wanted you to. This 7 clearly wanted to but just fell short to being able to though and clearly had some sort of fondness of you. I know that sounds scary but they aren't really evil.

The foot is clearly on the floor? I’m confused and I am always against the ppl who immediately say it’s not paranormal to every post.

I think it's Mum. Or a flatmate.

3

u/denever23 Dec 21 '25

Looks similar to something i saw when i was also doing a lot of ghost hunting, i hope i could still find the photo

2

u/TheKalobBlack Dec 21 '25

Yeah that’s pretty typical… some people want to see something, to know once and for all. And then when they do, it scars them. Certainly did me. Then again I’ve seen a lot so in a weird way it all smudges unless I think of a single event. So it’s easier to deal with, rather than one or two solid events that just replay on loop in memory.

2

u/No_Magazine_5119 Dec 22 '25

*Door hinges open, long suspenseful squeaking as the shadow's figure creeps into view, its dark grotesque shape looming hunched over in your door. As it lurches over and begins, in a gasping hoarse breath...* "Hey buddy, hate to wake you, but do you mind if I grab an extra blanket? It's a bit chilly downstairs."

u/TACOK1LL3R187 Dec 21 '25

Reason I ask is cuz I moved into an apartment where 2 different people died...and my gf lived in the apartment above mine and that's how I met her and she told me before I moved in shed hear shit slamming below her apartment which was the one I moved into obviously and I dismissed it and she left day to run errands and I kicked back in my recliner to nap and a couple minutes later it was like someone open a kitchen cabinet and slammed it as hard as possible and I know it wasnt just a open door closing shut on its own because it didn't bounce back and do a double tap it just wham and that was it it...well a month or so after that we was asleep in the living room on a mattress cuz I hadn't got furniture at the time and she always had to have one of those box fans running to sleep and her and fan was on side by the kitchen..one night I just woke up for some reason and I rolled over and she was on her side facing the fan and the kitchen and about as I was about to put my arm around her she just jerked her head up looking twords the kitchen and screamed and literally wound up on top of me and landed on the floor next to me...it took her a sec to catch her breath but she said I felt something touch me and I looked up and seen a small figure on top the fan and it jumped at me and I keep in mind I hadn't even touched her yet something woke me up causing me to roll over her way and before I put my arm over her that all happened...so I can kinda relate this fans or something coincidentally it still weird and I have more story's for day about that apartment.

Your friend coming into your room during a sleepover and only seeing the silhouette because the room you are in is also dark besides the flash on your phone?

2

u/Sandwichgode Dec 21 '25

Just because you haven’t seen it in awhile doesn’t mean it’s not still stalking you.  Perhaps it’s gotten better at hiding itself?
