Discussion Bo Nix is Mac Jones with Legs

u/Kardinale 1d ago
Bo "The Checkdown" Nix being out was the reason the Broncos lost to us, apparently lol

u/Legitimate_Ad_7822 1d ago
I always pushed back against that dumbass narrative. It was all out of hate for Drake, everybody knew Bo was fucking mid if they watched any football.

Watching this game wishing our offensive line wasn’t straight cheeks in the Super Bowl.

u/8NkB8 1d ago
Denver's D was also better against Seattle tonight than the Patriots were in the SB.
86
u/RoniSuave 1d ago
Also helps Denver that the Seahawks don't have Kenneth Walker running the ball
29
29
u/Legitimate_Ad_7822 1d ago
Seattles offense is dogshit right now. It’s JSN & half a QB.
The loss of Kubiak & Walker clearly impacted Darnold. Or he is just going through a slump too. Idk. But their offense was absolutely better last year.
13
u/IcansavemiselfDEEN 1d ago
Who would have thought losing a guy that has put up over 600 scrimmage yards in 4 games would have an impact?
16
14
u/BobbyRayBands 1d ago
Nah. Seattle just doesnt have Kenneth Walker to bail them out anymore. People seem to forget that the Pats defense was absolutely hanging in there with the Seahawks until eventually they got worn down by the offenses inability to even get a first down.
5
u/8NkB8 1d ago
The biggest factor was the Patriots defense failing to force a turnover. I think they sacked Darnold once. Compare it to the Broncos. Denver picked him off twice while missing their #1 CB and sacked Darnold numerous times. The Patriots defense in the Super Bowl was just OK. Seattle generally moved the ball at will throughout the game. Denver's defense was clearly better. Kenneth Walker isn't the reason.
6
u/Adept_Carpet 1d ago
If the offense had found anything that worked the defense would have found a way to hold it together.
4
u/SamIamGreenEggsNoHam 1d ago
Both teams put up almost identical offensive yards, too. The main differences were that Seattle could run the ball at will, and Maye turned the ball over 3 times while Seattle didn't turn it over once.
4
u/8NkB8 1d ago
Most of the Patriots yards came after they were down 3 scores. It's not the same. They didn't score until the 4th quarter.
Agreed on them not forcing a turnover. That was one of the key factors going into the game if they were going to win. Darnold needed to give them one or two, and he didn't.

Full on meltdown in the Seahawks sub about darnold made my night

u/Sleww 1d ago
Wish he could’ve played like that in February
23
u/SinisterMrSinister 1d ago
I mean he did play like that, he was 19 of 38. Walker won them that game. People forget that game was only 12-0 going into the 4th qtr. Darnold was pretty shit, it was Walker getting them into FG range.
They kicked 5 FGs and their defense scored as many TDs as the offense, 1
5
u/RammsteinFunstein 1d ago
But he avoided the big mistake like he had multiple of last game. A few picks could’ve changed that game

u/Legitimate_Ad_7822 1d ago
This could have the makings of a really vindicating season if Maye continues to play well. Some of our biggest critics/shit talkers are imploding. I’m loving it.
Besides the 9ers, Jags & maybe Chiefs, I’m not sure who else is as well rounded as we are right now. Probably the rams they’ll likely be alright. We have more holes than those teams, but I really believe we have one of the only teams right now that is capable of consistently playing complementary football. It’s why they made winning 14 games against “The Schedule” look easy last year & this is a better team. Tons of injuries but they’re still finding a way & getting healthier in the process.
41
u/VanceIX 1d ago
I don’t disagree but we also haven’t seen the offense do well against an elite defense. And Buffalo is still leading the division. I’m optimistic but one game at a time.
23
u/BobbyRayBands 1d ago
He put up 3TDs and 1 int*(it was an end of half hail mary) against the Texans last year in the playoffs who had statistically the best defense(yes better even than the Seahawks) in the NFL. I'm really not sure where this narrative that he hasnt had ANY good games against elite NFL defenses comes from. If they got regularly carved up they wouldnt be elite NFL defenses would they?
11
u/VanceIX 1d ago edited 1d ago
You’re ignoring the 3 fumbles that he had as well (with two being lost, meaning he had 3 total turnovers). If Stroud didn’t implode that game could have been completely different.
I love Maye. I think he’s elite and a top 10 QB in the league right now. But it’s night and day seeing his play against top 10 defenses and middling to lower tier defenses, going all the way back to his rookie season. For us to be the most well rounded team in the league we need consistency. I’m positive we’ll get there with Maye, but people jumping the shark talking about how we’re the most well rounded team is just as crazy as saying we were garbage a couple weeks ago when we got blown out by the Jags.
4
6
u/BobbyRayBands 1d ago
No, people are just saying this team is finally performing like it should be. We have a top 10 QB in the NFL, but without AJ we have a bottom 10 skill/position group on offense. Defense has been the clear focus on this team over the last few years, but I think last year was a good wake up call to the higher ups that it doesnt matter how good your defense is if you cant score any points which is why they went after AJ in the off season. Also his 3 fumbles were a combination of bad o-line play getting him strip sacked and the weather which besides being so fucking cold it was probably hard to have blood flow in his hands it was also snowing. I'm not faulting the kid from NC for not being fully prepared for those conditions his first time. And CJ stroud imploding seems to me like you're just entirely discounting half of the team like they werent out there making plays? He was throwing the ball downfield and moving fine, he just got outplayed.
1
u/Legitimate_Ad_7822 1d ago
Who else is as well rounded though? Besides the 9ers, Jags, Chiefs & Rams?
Most other teams have a complete garbage defense and great offense or vise versa. I don’t really think it’s jumping the shark. I think the league is just pretty damn weak right now.
7
u/Legitimate_Ad_7822 1d ago
Yeah I mean I’m chalking weeks 1-3 up to extension of the pre-season jitters bullshit.
Definitely could not be the case. But I think we’ve seen Drake have moments of elite play against elite defenses before (Texans). It’s in there. And AJ is coming back which should be a huge lift once he’s fully integrated again.
The Jets defense is a good test, although I don’t think they’re actually as good as the numbers say they are right now.
We don’t play another elite defense until December 10th, which is kind of crazy. There are a ton of soft defenses in this middle part of the schedule.
5
u/SinisterMrSinister 1d ago
I'll cope and say we win if he stays in the game, Drew Lock had that "we didn't plan for him" backup magic and even then it really took a 4th down pass with JSN matched up on a LB for them to win
17
2
u/RammsteinFunstein 1d ago
It’s not like Drew Lock played an amazing game. Drake just puked all over himself.
3
u/SoaplessTitanic 1d ago
But remember we really lucked out not having to play against him the majority of the week 1 game, same as we really lucked out not having to play against Bo Nix in the AFC championship
1
u/AmbitionExtension184 1d ago
Seattle fans are currently talking about if Locke is better than Darnold. Maybe they got lucky against us that their bad QB got hurt

I know it's literally just Broncos fans, but the amount of people who swore up and down Bo Nix was better than Maye all offseason was nuts.

This is just karma for all the Broncos fans shitting on Maye the first 3 weeks in r/nfl

Drake Maye literally runs circles around that guy and the only people who say otherwise are delusional Broncos fans
At least Drake actually could pass more than 10 yards a throw against Seattle in both games
20
u/Dazzling_Spinach1926 #0 1d ago
Oh come on that is insulting... to Mac Jones. He would've thrown twice the amount of yards, but also two INTs.
27
u/Old-Career9989 1d ago
So funny, now Broncos fans are saying to give him a break because he’s played some top 10 defenses lol

Mac Jones has been decent when filling in for Purdy actually, and made BTJ look like a perennial pro bowler on the Jags. Bo Nix just gets worse, doesn’t use his legs anymore and doesn’t even care to play QB anymore, he and the play calling kill the offense.
15
u/Freepi 1d ago
Mac is the perfect backup for Purdy because he's Temu Purdy. His arm is just a little weaker, but he's very accurate, and Purdy doesn't have a rocket arm so that's not really part of the normal plan anyway. McCaffrey is a hell of a crutch for a QB to lean on also.
5
u/Druuseph 1d ago
I think it's underselling the differences to say that his arm is just a 'little' weaker. Purdy doesn't have a cannon but he throws with a lot more velocity and he has great footwork, arguably the best for current active QBs. He's almost never getting caught out of stance, even when he's flushed out of the pocket he resets his base so he can drive the throw with his legs. So while he's not rifling balls mid-air like Allen, Mahomes or Maye he still has the medium distance tight window options open to him because of how good his mechanics are.
Mac can read a defense and take what it's giving him, which works in the structure that the 49ers play in and is why he'll float around the league as a backup well into his 30s. But his footwork is piss poor, even in a clean pocket he's wasting a bunch of steps that rob him for throwing velocity which is why he defaults into floating balls. This closes a lot of windows for him that Purdy can make work.
11
u/TheDufusSquad 1d ago
Mac Jones would honestly be better in this offense. If you drop Bo Nix into our 2022-2023 offenses, it would be some of the worst Qab play imaginable.
9
u/Heavy_Structure_8901 1d ago
He had 87 of those are yac. Drake maye probably would have had a aneurism playing like this haha
1
u/RammsteinFunstein 1d ago
They would’ve won week 1 if Drake played like that…

I’m happy to shit on any other teams QB to build up our own, but judging a year 3 QB on a game against that Seattle defense is a losing proposition for us. Based on recent results lol

Eh, I read way too many arrogant Bronco fans talking shit about how easy the patriots schedule was last year. Even tho they literally had the next easiest schedule. Fuck em and fuck thro pix
2
u/Puzzled-Bet4837 1d ago
It’s not just the Seattle game, it’s been like this. He’s always had massive training wheels on, their whole offense is built around flat routes and screen passes.

1
u/OpportunityFlat268 1d ago
did he or did he not just had 127 passing yards on 50% completions against the chargers? he’s got over 50 drop backs the past two weeks combined & has a whopping 230 yards.
2
u/RammsteinFunstein 1d ago
That doesn’t change that after a game vs Seattle we’re not the fanbase to be talking shit. Know what Bo didn’t do? Throw 3 atrocious interceptions in the 4th quarter to blow the game.
1
u/bedatboi 1d ago
I mean if darnold didn’t implode then nix would’ve still lost the game due to his play
1
u/RammsteinFunstein 1d ago
This 100%, I find it pretty embarrassing our fans are trying to dunk on Bo Nix for checks notes beating Seattle.

I mean, I'd take that if he also comes with the wizardry where fourth quarters just magically go right for the team he's on.
Like, seriously, how has all the fourth quarter stuff been sustainable for the Broncos over multiple seasons now?

u/ShockedNChagrinned 1d ago
His team won, against last year's SB winner who beat us then and again in wk1. He didn't make a risky throw. He didn't make a mental error. He didn't blow the game. He stayed low risk. He is the QB of the winning team.
Not sure why we'd rag on him. If they were Drake after week one, and we won, I think we'd be good knowing the Hawks' defense.
1
u/InCraZPen 1d ago
yeah there is a future where they start playing the easier schedule and he looks better. Holding that door open.
3
u/hostessdonettes 1d ago
He’s got a better arm than Mac and is making much worse decisions than 2025 Mac. He sucks but I’m not sure it’s the right comp

All off season Broncos Bros were bashing Maye for being a game manager schedule merchant.
I'm glad Bo has silenced his own Bo-leivers for us

Maye has literally the opposite profile as a game manager. The biggest criticism of him is that he takes too many risks.

Maye’s game against the jags is a little to fresh to be spouting this shit….theyre 4-2.

Mac10 was better. Not by much, but better. Nic has benefited from a better overall team, so his number are probably better, but I think Mac had a higher ceiling. He played well for the 49ers where he had a fsr superior team to either those Pats teams or these Denver teams.
Anyway... this is the guy that definitely would have beaten the Patriots in the AFCCG and "might have even beaten the Seahawks" 🤣 🤣

Edit: not saying he is better than Maye at all. Just not a great comparison to make the point

Nix is an interesting case this year. He's clearly not over his foot injury. If he doesn't get this sorted and soon he'll be riding the pine in short order.

Seattle might not be the team to hate on other QBs performance against…

u/RandMob1000 1d ago
This is Sean Paytons game plan to the tee. It's starting to look like he has lost all trust in Bo, which would explain Bo's behavior in the game. He played extremely conservatively, refusing to sling the ball into any coverage and only targeting players who were purposely left open to trick the qb into taking the low hanging fruit. Their defense and special teams are good enough to accommodate him, it makes for a terrible watch.
1
u/Pincerston 1d ago
If by “with legs” you mean he can scramble all the way to the sideline for a 3 yard loss, then sure

Never really understood the love for Nix. He's a check down specialist. Denver won despite him last night.
1
u/Nickohlai 1d ago
Mac Jones wasn’t afraid of throwing to the middle of the field and had issues outside the numbers, they’re two sides of the same coin.
1
u/Toasty501 1d ago
Firstly, they won so Nix is fine. Secondly, they have a terrible run game that is only better than the Packers rn. Not easy to dice up a defense when you average 2yds a carry.

I’m not really sure why our fanbase is piling on giving Bo Nix shit today. Did we already forget how Drake looked against Seattle the last two times we played them?

I was going to try and write something witty, but all I have is that mac jones literally sucks ass and is a sorry excuse for a qb. That's it.....he is awful.

This is a lame ass post. Go post this shit in one of the nfl subs. This has nothing to do with the Pats.

How did we do against them? How many turnovers did Drake have? I’m not saying Bo Nix is better, but shitting on him after he didn’t throw a game losing interception is not a great look for us

u/OptimusChip 1d ago
I mean....are we seriously going to pretend like this kid isn't a decent QB? He had a weird game, sure. He's 26. He's better than a lot of the other stiffs starting for some of these teams, he's also surrounded by talent and great coaching which any QB needs
Is he better than Drake? no. But that's not really important. It's been just over 2 seasons.
0
u/totheruins1 1d ago
I don’t like Bo nix either but every qbs numbers look inept against the Seahawks…they won. Like really? Are we listening to Ryan Fitzpatrick on Amazon a little much? That guy would’ve forced way too much and thrown like 4 ints and lost them the game…wouldn’t listen to that bum
