20 years ago, on August 2, 2006, Perfume released their first compilation album.

We've been so busy with the Cold Sleep, we forgot about one of the most important releases in Perfume history, beginning a chain of events that eventually lead to Perfume's breakout and success.

The album "~Complete Best~" was believed by many fans to be Perfume's last release before Tokuma Japan would drop them from their label, effectively ending their career. The album actually sold better than expected, which prompted Tokuma Japan to give them one last try, and they release "Fan Service: Sweet" on February 14, 2007. Jpop/rock star Kaela Kimura came across "Chocolate Disco" PV from the "Fan Service: Sweet" CD while shopping in a department store and fell in love with the group. She began playing the song on her weekly radio program and that caught the attention of Akira Tomotsugi, a commercial director for the NHK television network. He then hired them to do a song for their National Recycling Campaign and appear in the ads. The song was "Polyrhythm," and the CD was released September 12, 2007. It peaked at number 7 on the Oricon charts.

I love this album, “inryoku” was such an interesting song to me when i first got into perfume (who were the ones that got me into jpop in general) it sounded so wacky and unique, i felt transported to some y2k arcade with pink and flashing lights everywhere. i love how happy, upbeat and cute everything is on this compilation. 🥰

My journey exploring Perfume’s discography was really at my own pace, and it took me years to finally get around that album. It’s so 00s Tokyo coded in the aesthetic which I love, and some of the songs were eye opening discoveries to me. Like, I couldn’t believe I was missing out on Wonder2 this whole time. All this to say, happy 20 years~

The album version of “Elector World” is exclusive to this album.

It’s so bizarre that this was just a year away from Polyrhythn and almost two years before GAME but they all still feel like longer durations apart.

Also bizarre to think how it could have ended here if it weren't for a few lucky breaks
