The Warhammer 40k version of two people showing up to the same party wearing the exact same outfit. Both the Night Lords and the Necron Flayed Ones are infamous for wearing human skin, so when they both show up to battle wearing skin from the exact same Imperial Guard regiment, it is that awkward matching-outfit moment

Meme captures the feeling perfectly

u/ProkopiyKozlowski 1d ago

Pedantic correction. Both of those factions wear the flayed skin of their victims, but it isn't limited to only humans. They will skin pretty much anyone.

(Dude i just found a post the one right above this one where you said ur penis is nice and smooth, wth)

You're right that it's Warhammer.

The Night Lords are Space Marines that do things like wear the skin of their enemies.
Necrons do it for fun and are also opposed to mankind.

The joke is that they both showed up wearing the same "outfit", one of them just has to go home and change.

Get back to work, Chris.

The Night Lords flay people for fun, the Necrons do it because when they realise that they've been forcibly turned into mechanical horrors the only way to feel normal again is to cover their exposed metal with other people's skin.

u/Barheyden 1d ago

And don't forget, the feeling never actually comes back anyways because it's actually a virus infecting their software making them susceptible to this belief and the virus CAN spread to other necrons. Some dynasties actually fear their societies might collapse unless the Flayer and/or Destroyer viruses are dealt with

u/LazyWings 2d ago

Calling the Flayer Virus "just for fun" is wiiild. Flayed Ones literally have an incurable disease that makes them want to return to their flesh forms and they flay flesh beings and wear them. There's a lot of literature on how horrific the flayer virus is for Necrons.

I think he meant the Night Lords were doing it for fun. I think it was bad phrasing

Well, I don't know if you mean 'fall to Chaos' as in turned traitor, or literally 'fell to Chaos' because the Night Lords aren't bound to Chaos

They just kinda did it because they were pissed off at the Imperium for a multitude of reasons, namely ignoring Curze's warnings about the heresy, the Emperor letting things get so bad the heresy happened and mostly just general animosity to a people they've been butchering for centuries.

Oh, and a whole bunch of paranoia about getting held accountable for wearing skin suits.

I'm just wondering about your uh...

'Phrasing.'

u/Red_Blues 1d ago

The Night Lords can pretend they're not chaos space marines all they like, but they're deluding themselves. They can use anything in the codex. They have possessed, they have daemon engines, they can have marks of chaos.

3

u/LazyWings 1d ago

The Night Lords definitely fell to chaos. Just like the Iron Warriors fell to chaos. They might pretend they didn't but they deffo did

Nightlords, the 8th Space Marine Legion, who betrayed the Emperor with their Primarch, Konrad Kurze. Konrad grew up on a planet that is basically a worse Gotham City / Arkham Asylum, and became Batman. Except he didn't have a no kill rule.

The Nightlords took over that cruelty. They skin people alive and make clothing out of them.

The Necrons are a race of alien humanoids that started life on a planet so irradiated, everyone got super ass cancer and died by their 30s. They met the Gods, didn't get a cure from them, and that pissed them off so much that they made a pact with the Star Gods to become immortal. They lost their souls for it.

Anyways, some of those Necrons are cursed by the Flayer-Virus. It makes them HUNGRY. They're basically "what if Terminator was a zombie?".

They try to become flesh again, by stuffing their metal face plates with flesh of the living and draping their skin over their metal skeletons.

If Flayers and Nightlords meet on the battlefield after both fighting the Imperium, they might be wearing the skin of the same guard regiment.

This is a 40k twist of the "we arrived in the same getup, AWKWARD" thing.

I don't know about that, though, women are strange and mysterious creatures.

The twin of Chris' boss at the video store, the Hobby store owner, out.

Social faux pas of wearing the same outfit to a party. This is Mort or something

1

u/Phoenix_THELegend_1 2d ago

I can’t even comprehend this

2

u/Mother_Economics_824 2d ago

I guess we need the Warhammer nerds to explain this

5

u/UnconfirmedRooster 2d ago

I gave an in depth explanation in the comment you replied to. Also thank you for posting this meme, it made me cackle like an idiot.

Warhammer 40,000 Lore.

Both groups listed here are known for wearing human skin. Imperial Guard is the faction of normal humans in the Imperium of Man’s Space Army.

I don’t know which Family Guy character would know this so I’m Stan from South Park.

u/Pokemonchase 1d ago

So yes, warhammer skin wearing factions blah blah, BUT the meme format is reused from a meme that goes something like "How I used to imagine murderers looking as a kid" and "What I actually look like" and I feel like that is also important context to the meme.

It's from Warhammer 40k.

To keep the explanation fairly minimal:

Necrons are an alien species that had their consciousness transferred into skeleton-like living metal bodies a very long time ago. Flayed Ones are Necrons that are afflicted by a curse or sort of mental disorder or virus (the writing is a bit ambiguous about how it actually works) that makes them hunger for flesh and blood to try and feel alive again. They try to eat their victims (which they can't, because well... they're wandering metal skeletons, they have no disgestive systems) and they drape themselves in the flayed skin of their victims - maybe because they want to have skin of their own again, it's not entirely clear.

The Night Lords were one of Space Marine Legions of the Imperium, which is the main human faction in the setting, though they have since betrayed tthe Imperium and joined the daemonic forces of Chaos. Space Marines are genetically and cybernetically enhanced super soldiers. There's many different chapters and legions of them and each has their own individual traits, how they like to fight, their attitude towards others, some physical traits, etc. The Night Lords in particular are noteworthy for being absolute bastards, even by the sorry ethical standards of 40k. They more or less obsess over psychological warfare, terror tactics and maintaining order through fear. They commit warcrimes, mutilate people for shock value and, indeed, also like to fashion cloaks from human skin to make themselves look more terrifying.

So you've got two different factions that are infamous for flaying people and wearing their skin - on a very convoluted battlefield, they could theoretically wear the skin of soldiers from the same regiment, resulting in matching outfits - which would be a bit awkward.

Im not really well-versed in the Warhammer universe ao i just wanna understand the meme

0

u/Colonel_Cosmetic 2d ago

Konrad Curze here, we Night Lords flay the skin of the wicked (by our standards), we wear it to show people the price of crime, we take good care of our skins, but the Necron Flayed Ones take skin because they're insane robots that miss being living beings, they shred their skins, meaning they need to keep replacing them, so when we do it, it's cool, badass, and justified, when the Necrons do it, they just drape it over themselves, and it is cringe, uncool, and sad.

Yes, it's from warhammer, night lords is a traitor space marine chapter and they like to torture, butcher, flay alive, etc their enemies and sometimes their allies, and i don't really know about necron lore but i assume flayed ones also flay the skin from their enemies and wear it

2

u/BigSupermarket2846 2d ago

Night Lords are a Traitor Legion, they sided against the Emperor during the heresy and thus have no Chapters.

They just aren't bound to Chaos, acting in their own self interest.

Though you aren't wrong that they did this kind of thing, even before the Horus Heresy

1

u/Stock_Room_7288 2d ago

Okay, i kinda messed up with loyalist and traitors since i haven't been in warhammer sphere for a while, thanks for correcting me

1

u/Stock_Room_7288 2d ago

I just remembered that one of the two edgelord chapters(night lords and raven guard) was loyalist and the other one were traitors and mixed them up

1

u/IAmOnFyre 2d ago

Night Lords aren't loyalist. I mean, they were psychopaths before they turned traitor but so are all Space Marines.

1

u/Stock_Room_7288 2d ago

I mixed up night lords and raven guard
