‘Tea’ is a slang for rumors/gossip

I hate that tea has become a name for essentially speculating about the private lives of others.

Hi, Meg here.

The popular kids at school all call gossip "tea". She thinks she is being offered juicy gossip but its just regular tea

They say i'm the guest of honour at all the tea parties but i've never even been invited to one.

Strange.

There’s no way you don’t know about the r/SipsTea sub

1

u/Lkwzriqwea 2d ago

It's actually got nothing to do with that sub, it's from the phrase "spill the tea" which is a recent parody of "spill the beans"

1

u/FactsNLaughs 2d ago

Which is still about gossip. We’re saying the same thing.

1

u/Lkwzriqwea 2d ago

r/sipstea is tea like causally drinking tea while crazy stuff is happening, it's just a coincidence that they both involve the word tea

u/DariusDonut 2d ago

I actually now that sub

u/Plus-Artichoke6608 2d ago

Expected gossip got actual tea to drink

u/davideogameman 2d ago

A newer meaning for "tea" is gossip, as in "spill the tea".

I’m going to have to mute this sub because the sheer stupidity of some of these posts is depressing me.

Phrase spill the tea = Gossip

Tea = gossip

The original was suggesting the other drinks tea... The other assumed the first was gonna dish up some dirt on someone

It's funny how gen z/gen alpha generations are so obsessed with tea

They want to spill the tea

They say some bodies are tea

They also love matcha

u/gellshayngel 2d ago

Boil it, steep it, drink it with some stew.
