Machine Electromatic 607A

Hello ! I know this is more for mechanical phonographs but I’m excited to finally have this machine at my house! I knew the original owner and have always loved it.

From looking at the tone arm it looks like it would just take a steel needle? It looks like a super bent tungstone, but would anyone know how to find like a (sapphire?) stylus for it?

I’ll probably have someone redo the electronics for me as the radio stuff is a little out of my wheelhouse… but the local guy does ONLY radio, not the phonograph side of it!

She still sounds great though!

Also please ignore the mess in my kitchen. I was very excited lol

Machine 100 bucks for a Standard Model A, doesn’t spin.. worth a look?

Someone is selling what looks to me like a standard model A, with a turntable that’ll fit a non proprietary record.. seller says it doesn’t crank up.

Worth 100 bucks to see if I can fix? I could potentially motor swap if it’s all buggered..

500 bucks on marketplace… the motor definitely needs cleaned and rebuilt but that’s no problem for me..

The horn is missing on rivet near the elbow and some of the paint is chipping. I’m honestly not sure if the paint is original or not..

The lady I got it from bought it from the original family (grandson of the original purchaser) in 1970!

Machine Columbia fiber gear got cooked, motor is apparently unheard of? What now?

I was taking a look inside because it suddenly started running rough and it had a clicking sound, I noticed it was the fiber clicking against the governor spindle.

The governor screw was loose and the mainspring decided to tasmanian devil.

Now the gear is all distorted and it's practically seized.

I saw one on thephonographshop.com but I really don't wanna pay $45 for a gear that I could either get custom made or printed

I will send pictures if requested

It is a single spring motor

Idk the motor, but the mainspring that it has is labeled the following in the phonograph shop:

Main Spring for:

Columbia Motor #1

Columbia Motor #2

Columbia Motor #3

Columbia Motor #4

Not Used with:

Columbia Motor #1

Columbia Motor #5

Columbia W Series Motors (no. 2951)

United Motor #5

Dimensions

Width: 1"

Thickness: 0.028"

Length: 10'

Outer Connection: Pear

Inner Connection: Pear

Arbor Diameter: 5/8

Also, how do I remove the gear from the metal thing in image 1?

Machine Anyone have any idea what this little unmarked motor is?!

Hey guys,

Picked up (most likely a frankenphone from Europe) that is all period parts it seems, no markings though, for pretty cheap for an external horn.

Anybody have any idea what this motor may be? It is quite small and I’ll have to tear it down to make it work but I’m not 100% sure it is put together correctly at the moment..

Thanks for any info!

It's a Birch 41A, it doesn't originally have an NO. 2 reproducer per the service manual.

Does anyone have any details, like a year?

Sorry for the horrendous photo quality.

Machine My First Disc Phonograph.

About two weeks ago, my mother sent a photo of an Edison C-19 at a local antique mall. I decided to pay a visit just a few days later and with a little help, this gorgeous machine became my first disc phonograph.

Aside from a few minor nicks and scratches, this is a truly well-preserved example of Edison’s finest. (In my favorite finish, no less!) Grille cloth isn’t OEM, but it gives some character. The original key was kept, though. And that dealer tag, man. Nothing like owning a piece of local history. Most importantly, it runs like a beauty! Motor is nice and quiet. The reproducer has a loud, crisp sound.

Included with the purchase was a box of thirty or so 78s and a lonely Diamond Disc. A few Hit of the Week records, too. And even a pair of Victor albums with some single-sided, embossed Red Seals. About a dozen more discs were trapped behind the storage slots. Those were a pain to get out!

Machine A TWO-FER!

No no! It’s not a two-fer, it’s a THREEFER! It’s NOT A TWOFER! (Ref Schwarzenegger in Kindergarten Cop)

tl;dr - These are three of Victor’s MAJOR hottest sellers of the 1910-1921 timeframe; and these are really early models with varied design iterations.

The VV-XIII (8) - 1912 🧼 VV-XIII • 22782 🧼
The VV-IX (9) - 1913 🟫 VV-IX • 57665 C 🟫
The VV-X (10) - 1910 🇬🇷 VV-X • 1591 🇬🇷

I’m going to completely refurbish all three and make them as presentable as possible, despite the many series of unfortunate events to which they were subjected throughout their 115-year life!

I’ll do a separate for each. I’ll go over the 8 and 9/10’s motor also so you can see earlier spiral drive motors’ makeups! I’ve yet to dip into a “bevel drive” (the earliest of the early, just gears basically lol)

I hope you had a good day and I wish you a wonderful evening! Thanks for stopping by, bein’ cool, and all the rest!

Columbia Grafonola P3, Adam model

1917- Victor also had its period pieces offered… then came WWI!!! This is truly a beautiful machine.

I stumbled on this early-seeming Columbia 12” (envelope has disc removed laterally!) and it had an ad for one of the Columbia period pieces I’d seen on the web, just never in person. If memory serves it was listed initially at $600, and electric I believe!

Wow! Cheers, and here’s to a wonderful evening. Thanks for stopping and for your coolness…

Machine Hi I need to identify the model names of 3 phonographs of mine!

All three come from a museum collection, the former Galbiati Museum in Brugheiro, Italy.

I'm cataloging the various pieces for my own collection, but I have questions about the various models. I'm hoping someone can help me. :)

1) Blue Horn

2) "standard horn" Pathé, (Possibly model 0 or O?)

3) "standard horn" (not in photo but I have it).

I never knew until today. Wow. Fully functional @100 rpm on pictured HMV Gramophone (1924, looks like the VV-XVII/XVIII equivalent, obviously fit for a queen).

The whole story is cool. Wow. Google and you’ll find vids of the records being played!

tl;dr - Windup, run-down, and rewinding for maintenance.

Albie decided to pop in and help! I thought the group might enjoy.

RIP Coolio - it blew me away when he passed in 2022, so young. His 1,2,3,4 (Sumpin' New) just came to mind while I was “organ grinding” these things to the rhythm lol. It takes a while to do it with the 3- and 4- springs lol

Machine Help with the speed of my Edison Phonograph Mark 50!

Sorry If you've seen this before, It's the third post that I make: I'm trying everything.

The governer keep hitting the brake at high speed.

It goes at around 140 rpm instead of 160 rpm.

I tried adjusting every screw in the video to the right or left, but it didn't help at all. Do you think the player is the problem? I also oiled the gears, but it seems worse than when I first tried it. I tried turning the screw that controls the brake all the way to the maximum, but after a while, it's just stuck.

Can't seem to find a solution, please help me, suggestions are well accepted!
