Need Advice Does anyone else get tired of being picky even though you can’t just switch it off?

I feel like people assume being a picky eater means you just refuse to try things, but for me it’s usually the texture or smell that ruins it before I even get very far. I actually want to eat more foods because ordering the same few things all the time gets old, especially when I’m eating with other people. I’ve tried forcing myself to finish foods I don’t like and that usually just makes me hate them more. Has anyone here actually gotten better with certain foods over time? I’m curious what helped without making every meal feel like a challenge.

the “just try it” crowd really underestimates how fast your brain can go nope, absolutely not over one weird texture lol exposure helped me a bit, but only when i was allowed to spit it out and try

Trying to sneak new foods into stuff I already liked helped a lot for me personally

eating the same 5 things over and over gets exhausting, so try to add one small new thing alongside a safe food instead of making the whole meal unfamiliar

I know what I like and what I can’t or won’t eat. I don’t have a problem with that. I always order from the same few things when eating out. As long as i don’t put the issue on others or try to dictate how or where they eat, and i do fulfill nutritional requirements, then I see no problem.

My friends call me “French onion soup girl”…thats what I almost always order when we go out to eat, I have jaw issues that make chewing a chore, plus I really can’t eat a lot..For some reason, that soup makes me feel relaxed because I know I like it, it won’t make me sick, and most places have a version of it on their menu. And in the few occasions where we are at a place that doesn’t serve it, I get a glass of white wine, maybe another type of soup, and just enjoy conversations with the people I am with

Yeah ig forcing yourself to eat something you already hate usually just makes the whole thing worse. I’ve had way more luck trying tiny amounts when I actually feel up for it.

When I try to eat something I don't like it literally makes me gag. I wish I could simply eat foods I don't like, that would make life a lot easier.

I wish I wasn't. I want to eat veggies with cooking, and not be made sick by the sleep of coffee. So much I'd like to eat but it all looks so gross

Yes. I feel this deeply. I just want to be normal when it comes to food. I'm overweight, trying to lose weight and get healthy. Finding veggies I can eat without getting sick is seriously stressing me out.

Yeah, it would make life a lot easier. I'm anxious about every meal at someone's house or at some restaurants. But I love the things I do eat. I sometimes try a small bite but don't force myself to finish anything.
