I got tricked by a homeless person into basically being his Uber.
Last night while I was at the gas station a random old man. Walks up to me. Tells me his E-bike tire popped and could use some help bringing it to a shop to get a new tire and that he'd pay me 20$. I felt pity for the oldman. He said he hurt his ankle when his tire popped and he seemed normal at first so I said yes, it's Florida and it's hot as hell. I picked his bike up and threw it in the back of my truck. We get to the tire shop. Its the most ghetto shit I ever seen. Schizophrenic writing on the sign advertising it. He walks in. 2 minutes later. He walks out and says it's too expensive and ask to go to to Walmart for a tire tube. I begrudgingly take him to walmart because I feel pitty for him. But a little annoyed. He literally stays in there for 30 minutes before coming out saying they don't got the tire tube size he needs.
I offer to drop him off home. Then he tells me he dosnt got one. I was thinking oh shit. Then I ask him does he have a girl friend or something . He says yes, so I was a little relieved in my head hoping I could drop him off at his girlfriend's. But then he says the people at the hotel that she stays at won't tell her what room she stays in. I realized this mother fucker was crazy after that. He started talking about how the city stole his million dollar inheritance. And they told him to go rehab but then he started swearing he dosnt doing drugs.
I'm very annoyed with him at this point. So I offer him one last stop because I'm going home after this. So he ask to be dropped by this other bike shop. I pull up to it after a 10 minute drive. The store is closed because it's 10pm at this point. He then Ask for me to drop him off a little down the road so he can sleep in the woods til they open tommorow. I did it. When we stopped I picked his E-Bike up and got it out the truck. I ended up giving him a bottle of water I had in the truck. I did not get 20$

"I did not get 20$"
...and that was the moment you remembered you live in Florida.
I am sorry for all that. I had a job once where I worked with someone I would give rides home to...or at least I thought I did. Weeks later, she spends a few nights camping out in the pool area of the apartment complex where I live...another week and she bangs on my door at 10pm because she didn't feel we had sufficiently finished out conversation from a few hours ago. Another few weeks, she flips out at work because I was trying to help her stay out of trouble with our bosses...they take her into the office and start talking her down, and 10 minutes later one of them comes out and explains that not only will she no longer be working there, but that I should probably leave early as a good part of her rant focused on me and how I was "running some kind of game on her."

I’m imagining OP is riding up and down US1 and wasting his time at Walmart while the homeless guy is having the best day ever

I've done something similar. Fortunately, took less time than your adventure. I don't have money to spare but I want to help how I can. It wasnt the end of the world, if a little tedious.

It wasn't the problem that I was helping him. It was that he ended up being a crazy ass lol. It felt weird as hell when he said the hotel won't tell him what room his girlfriend lives in.

Well, this isn't terribly pointless. next time we all know to get the $20 before you put the car into drive.
Seriously, good on you for trying to help.

Yup. That's crazy homeless people for you - the rest of the world has a place to sleep so they basically owe me endless favorsÂ

You still did the right thing. Good deeds have ways of coming back to those who do them... even in the little ways. 😉
