I knew this was gonna happen one day. Russia is the only country in the world that got no "liberation day" tariffs under the pretense they had enough sanctions already.

Reminder an unhabited island got tariffed 10%

He’s not trying to he just doesn’t give a shit. Trump is the most narcissistic person to ever be president. He makes Andrew Jackson look like Fred Rogers in comparison.

182

u/Spare_Elderberry_418 - Auth-Center 20h ago

Yep. The painful part is he will get away with this scheme, at least in the short term to achieve what his likely objective is.

Congress is dissolved and won't be back in session until November, which by that point Trump will already get Russia to release it's oil and diesel which Trump believes will lower prices at the pump to salvage midterm elections.

His whole "energy ceasefire" bullshit makes more sense because legally for Trump to do these broad waivers would require a ceasefire in Ukraine. He is creating the legal fiction to claim that these orders are legit. It doesn't matter if this eventually gets struck down or Congress gets pissed, Trump just needs to make sure it goes through until November 3rd. After that, why the fuck should he care, he knows he is going to get impeached anyways at this point.

It would be a brilliant, if illegal, power play if this would actually lower gas prices enough to make a meaningful political boost for him, but the truth is it won't. He is doing all this hoping for a boost at the polls that don't actually come about.

u/Swordfromthecement - Auth-Left 20h ago

You absolutely nailed it. God damn I hope Republicans get blown out in the midterms and Trump’s ass is stuck in investigations and lawsuits for the next 2 years.

I can’t take much more of this demented jackass fucking up the country. We already know he’s not going to leave the White House so I hope Congress has a plan for that.

u/QuestlineRageQuitter - Left 19h ago

It's actually going to be genuinely and utterly hopeless if Republicans win again. Seriously, after everything they've done and STILL doing republican???

63

u/Gmknewday1 - Lib-Right 17h ago

They betrayed their own base by sucking up to him

They aren't Republicans, they are MAGA

32

u/QuestlineRageQuitter - Left 16h ago

And yet a huge majority of republicans support MAGA and their interests, so....

37

u/Gmknewday1 - Lib-Right 15h ago

That's my point

They've supported MAGA so much that they've lost their own base in exchange for idiots and extremists

Arguably they've turned themselves into Trump's party

10

u/pimonster31415 - Lib-Center 10h ago

Their base is single issue evangelical voters, they will literally never lose them because these people do not care about foreign policy or broader domestic policy and they barely care about the economy. As long as Trump is pro gun, anti immigration, and anti lgbtq he will have these votes

3

u/Gmknewday1 - Lib-Right 7h ago

Considering how sporadic he's been, I honestly won't be susprised if his dumb ass finally says or does something to get them to leave

Why should we believe that the republican base and the maga base are significantly different? This is what republicans have been for decades

21

u/Writer13377 - Lib-Right 18h ago

Midterms are fucked, but I could see the dems losing the next presidential election if they run someone equally retarded like newsome

46

u/Count_de_Mits - Centrist 17h ago

With the shit trump and the reps have pulled the dems should be able to run a cat and a goldfish and win

But the people are not only retarded, they are spiteful, evil motherfuckers who would cheer a forest fire as long as it burned their neighbors house first

6

u/Akiias - Centrist 12h ago

I think MAGA has branded itself so well that someone running as a Republican, not MAGA, will appear quite apart of Trump by now.

u/CeaselessGomalu - Lib-Right 14h ago

The cat would eat the goldfish and the Democrats would lose. Never underestimate their ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Even 2024 should have been a layup if they’d just had a primary.

January 6th, 2020 should have been game over for Trump, but I think Democrats overplayed their hand. First, you had the NY fraud case (overvaluing assets) which probably had some merit, but you usually wouldn’t go after entities for that and is a fairly common thing. The next thing you have is E. Jean Carroll, and while I don’t disbelieve that something untoward may have happened, there was certainly no actual evidence presented that would support her winning that case; it was he-said/she-said and the underlying claim was over two decades prior and, according to Carroll, could have been anytime in a range of several months. Her claim literally failed to even specify a year (the range spanned two different years) this event took place. A journalist who doesn’t know what year something like that happened, hmm…

With all of those things going on, Trump and his supporters could make a strong case that the legal system was trying to railroad him.

Really, if January 6th had been the last time that Trump dominated the news cycle, then he’d have been toast and would’ve had no hope of winning in 2024.

9

u/WillyWarpath - Auth-Center 12h ago

For most people, Jan 6th seemed like nothing compared to the summer of love in 2020. At the time I was more right leaning and the general consensus was that it was a power play by the state/left institutions to show 'we can burn down cities for months on end, but if you get unruly even for one day, thats unacceptable'

11

u/jdiskxkfidobsvsgdi - Lib-Center 12h ago

Jan 6th was encouraged by a president in order to disrupt the peaceful transfer of power after he lost an election. He also tried to get Pence to certify fake election votes, as Pence talked about freely. “The state/left institutions” were upset because that is genuine dictator shit and extremely dangerous for our country, not to mention an attempt to take away peoples constitutional right to vote.

The comparison to the 2020 riots is a non-sequiter anyway, it makes no sense to compare crimes committed by random private citizens to those orchestrated by a politician.

6

u/jmastaock - Lib-Center 7h ago

It makes sense in the context of it being pure copium to both-sides the GOP's particular malfeasance

It's not like these folks give a shit about nuance. They just want rhetorical defenses for the shit they support, no matter how incomparable or irrelevant

→ More replies (4)

7

u/CeaselessGomalu - Lib-Right 12h ago

Right, except that the behavior we saw on January 6th was all but directly encouraged by the POTUS and came as a result of him losing. In comparison, the various riots, etc., weren’t encouraged or carried out (that we know of) by any state actors.

You can’t really point at any one of those incidences, or even the collection of them, and say, “The Democratic Party caused this.” You could argue they should have been more adamant about condemning it.

It's funny people are so bearish on Neeson, because "policy-wise standard Democratic and overall fairly generic straight white male with executive experience as governor of the largest state" sounds like a obvious profile for a candidate.

get Russia to release it's oil and diesel

That is IF Russia had those readilly available. Which they barelly do. Watch as Trump sends Putin the money and Putin pulls out excuse that Ukraine destroyed the ship or they dont have the resources and pocket the money.

IMO its just a scheme to give money to his friend Putin and perhpas chance to sanction Ukraine for causing monetary loss of US citizens money.

26

u/Spare_Elderberry_418 - Auth-Center 19h ago

if this would actually lower gas prices enough to make a meaningful political boost for him, but the truth is it won't.

I already said that this won't result in what he intended it to do. Did you not read?

The amount of money Russia gains from this isn't enough for Putin to drastically change the war. Putin probably doesn't care about the money in this case. Putin's objective is to shatter NATO unity. He wants the alliance weakened and divided which he achieves by deals like this. It isn't about the money, it's about the IR.

10

u/assasin1598 - Centrist 19h ago

My point that its not meant to be political boost or lower the gas prices, thats why I didnt mention it.

Its just siphoning tax payer money to Putin the same way Putin was siphoning russian tax payer money to Trump during elections.

Its just friends stealing money for the other. Youre right the money is not enough to change the war, i dont think the money would ever reach Russian GDP, Putin will pocket it.

Or its as I said attempt to justify acctions by US against ukraine like the recent Starling being turned off for UA.

1

u/IgniteTheFlamee - Auth-Center 10h ago

Well all Trump needs is the markets to believe oil is coming, and the price goes down.

4

u/SuicideSpeedrun - Centrist 16h ago

Also, even if he gets a boost, it means nothing for him

Because he can't run again, PERIOD

Once the next two years are over, he's done, and unless he can convince people to vote for Vance, who arguably is a bigger idiot, he can't get his Trumpublican shit to keep going

His bullshit ends regardless, even if he's still walking way with a shit ton of money from being president

1

u/Cockblocktimus_Pryme - Auth-Left 4h ago

I just don't think that fuel prices are going to drop in any sort of meaningful way in the 2 and a half weeks. How long until the diesel even gets here? How long until they distribute it across the country? How long until gas stations decide to lower their prices?

1

u/Spare_Elderberry_418 - Auth-Center 4h ago

I agree. I noted that in my paragraph. This is both illegal and pointless in achieving his objective. At my most charitable he can claim to the most low tier information voters that he has "lowered gas prices" Think the boomers who don't leave their house or assisted living care and don't drive.

But I don't see how that is going to improve the margins to where he would need to prevent the key Senate losses he is trying to avoid.

23

Fair enough. That’s probably why he admires Putin and Xi so much, he wishes he could use our treasury like a personal piggy bank to enrich himself (even more than he’s already done).

3

u/Akiias - Centrist 12h ago

Eh I think money is secondary, a distant second even. What he cares more about is his ego. What he wants most dearly is his own "Obamacare". He wants a big fancy achievement with his name plastered on it in gilded leaf. Trump HAS money, he'll take more sure, but he has money.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone gave him a legitimate offer of giving away all his money in exchange for having the biggest achievement of any POTUS he would take it without a second thought. Dude's old, and has always loved slapping his name onto things. He would love getting a major presidential achievement that would be remembered as "done by Donald Trump" for then next 100 years.

1

u/assasin1598 - Centrist 12h ago edited 11h ago

It sounds great and youre right he certainly he has an ego and been trying to satisfy it, as example wanting the nobel prize.

His beef with Obama tho is because hes racist (cant have black man be better than) and with Biden because he "stole" his presidential term, hes really salty about that 47. He also left the 1st presidency with less money than he came in, might be influence too.

But your ultimate mistake is, thinking just because he has money, that its enough, its not.

Trump came out of 1st presidency with (well take the lower estimates) of 2.3billion and started 2nd with 3.9billion, thats rise of 1.6billion in 4 years. He currently sits on around 7billion... in 1 1/4 years... literally doubling it.

He has an ego, yeah. But always the thing that matters the most is money. Thats why I call him Oligarch, because thats how he acts, like a russian oligarch

If he wanted a thing like Obamacare, he would take the route to immortality like old famous people after whom streets or libraries are named like Dolly Parton did. But that means parting with money.

It is 100% the voters fault. No one else.

Massie was anti-pedophilia, anti-war, and against high spending. He was voted out by right-wing voters for being disloyal to their pedophile cult leader. Not Trump or any politician did that. Purely their voters.

Right wingers do NOT have moral or policy standards for politicians. Their only metric is how loyal they are to Trump. Anyone that slightly questions Trump is voted out instantly.

This is a representative democracy working as intended. It's accurately representing a voter base of skinwalker cultists and child fuckers.

41

u/Spare_Elderberry_418 - Auth-Center 20h ago edited 19h ago

To involuntarily remove the president with the 25th amendment you first need the majority of the cabinet to vote to oust the president. Trump specifically picked this cabinet for personal loyalty to him to prevent that from happening.

The informal social contract was likely Trump would let the cabinet plunder and loot their offices in exchange for offering them all presidential pardons so none of them are ever charged for crimes. These pardons are likely contingent on continued loyalty to Trump. So why would the cabinet remove Trump when the majority of them are likely involved in criminal activity themselves and would have their own trials in the future? Do you think Vance is going to keep most of them around after he becomes president? No, especially not after they already voted to remove one president.

It is also a gun you can only fire once, and you better not miss. How does the cabinet know they have am majority that will vote to remove Trump? If you don't have a majority you and the rest who voted yes are going to be out of a job. You also can't exactly go around and ask "hey, would you vote yes to remove Trump using the 25th amendment?" Because all it would take is one snitch and you are out of the cabinet.

14

u/Gmknewday1 - Lib-Right 17h ago

Until it really starts to hurt them specifically, a lot of these "republicans" will countinue to suck up to him until he's ethier gone for good or outright dead

Frankly at this point many of these Republicans sold out their own party for power, money, and using a group of tricked extremists to be in power

9

u/shamblam117 - Lib-Center 12h ago

25th is only invocable by the VP and his cabinet. Considering they're all wearing gold plated knee pads they'll never do it. Congress is also neutered by the idea of Trump and his base turning on them and giving them a funny nickname, so they won't impeach+remove.

It will be via a Democrat congress if it happens and there's apparently already Dems saying we need to forgive and forget again.

2

No. If it’s a blowout, all 2028 and 2030 senate members will turn on Trump to save themselves. If the 2026 midterm shows he has lost the cult, then it’s over.

I want to keep my eye on Massie’s district. Massie lost by 10% to a MAGA Ed Gallrein. If that 45% for Massie doesn’t show up for Ed, the Democrat could actually win or scare one of the reddest districts in the US. Because Donald Trump can say “mods, kill his career”. And the guys who are left value their jobs more.

There were republicans than didn’t roll with that. But ask Kinzinger how his congress time is.

This guy is so desperate for midterms he’s willing to destroy American hegemony even more than it already is, allied with Russia over the west and is purposefully not striking Iran which at this point has just led to them restocking munitions and infrastructure. I fucking hate him and every single motherfucker that dared to excuse what he’s doing just because he displays a shallow form of patriotism

Edit: and his allies are telling him to consider “actions” in case they “decide”, yes decide the midterms are rigged. Like wtf they’d go apeshit over this if it was a democrat, like they’ll still bring up how newsome cleaned up the streets when his Chinese masters came from over the pacific

Trump doing retarded things is his standard procedure.

He's either bending to his master's will, or thinks this will lower fuel costs to secure votes, or is pissy Ukraine bombed datacenters powering bots, or something equally self-serving.

12

u/SignedUpForDarkMode - Lib-Center 17h ago

I don't think MAGA will be as upset as some of you think. There's always been an undercurrent of ridicule at media coverage that Trump colluded with Russia. IMO he didn't and he's not an asset, but still gets played. Now MAGA can deploy years of practice and keep on not giving a fuck.

6

u/bearcatjoe - Right 12h ago

I have populist friends, who I think would be classified as MAGA now. They were of course Clinton people in the 90's.

They are turning on Trump, but mostly because they listen to Candace Owens and her nutty Israel theories, not because they disagree with Trump supporting Russia.

I will probably go Independent if this bizarre time doesn't pass.

3

u/Street_Bid1455 - Lib-Left 9h ago

I have no faith in the average retard that votes in American elections anymore. I simply cannot believe people are "turning on Trump". If we re-held elections right now between Kamala and Trump, these people would vote for him again.

Most of my family voted for Trump and don't like him but they'll always vote R and never D, every time.

1

u/ArmedWithBars - Centrist 9h ago

Nah dawg. I'd rather give Obama a 3rd term than have another nursing home candidate at the wheel.

On the other hand what the fuck are the Dems doing? Now almost 2 years into the Trump term and they haven't even started building up a decent candidate. First they insult their base by throwing in 1% in the Dem primary Kamala out there to tank the election so they didn't lose the Biden fundraising money.

Now the Dem party sits in the corner chair jerking off as Trump raw dogs the statue of liberty in a Mar-A-Lago bedroom.

Either Rubio or Theil sock puppet Vance incoming for 2028 if this continues. Personally I think we are fucked with either side so Ima just roll with it.

1

u/driley97 - Centrist 4h ago

Their plan is likely for Trump’s third-term stunt to actually happen then throw Obama in for the running. Gavin Newsome is their backup plan if he ends up not trying to do the third term and lets Vance take a shot at running. They can definitely win with Obama, not sure about with Newsome though
