She basically said when she saw him doing well that people voted for it so they get what they vote for and that good he’s doing isn’t going to last forever and people will eventually see how he’s not doing a good job. She’s a kind woman and a republican her whole life but not easy to sway with politics mostly. My late grandfather was on city council for a while where I used to live and was very heavy into republican politics. When I was young he met Darrel Issa and I was in the background of one of his ads to vote for him (too young to understand what was happening). We also had a meeting with some Saudi prince or some shit like that for lunch cus my gpa had written a book about climate change being fake and the guy I guess was mentioned in it or just loved the book or something.

He was very much a good person but not great person and since she’s more quiet and submissive I think has just kind of accepted where she’s at. She was always right wing, just never super into politics in the sense of active involvement. She has good and bad takes (as we all do) but sadly with my uncle also being a fox/newsmax 24/7 person my trying to reason with her would be overturned by him spewing their bs to her.

I’m the lone left leaner in our house so I don’t have much I can do especially when dealing with a quick to anger Fox/newsmax viewer

I lived in North County SD for years and Issa was my rep. Left 18 years ago and I still want to vomit when I hear his name. It's hard being the lone sane person in a political conversation with Republicans. My MIL still lives there and happily supports their regime. It's mind numbing to think about so we've basically become estranged. Just wanted to let you know you're not alone, even when you're surrounded by ignorant people.

If he wrote a book earnestly about climate change being fake he might not actually be that good of a person even if he was good to his family. It's pretty fucked up to deny something so obvious from pretty much all available data that will do untold harm to people in the future.

He had like 5 degrees and two of them were in something related to oil and gases. Was a professor at USC after graduating some years later for a while. He wrote actually about 6 books with a close friend of his for colleges so I could see the problems when it comes to things like oil given today’s climate. But this man was not a bad person. Imperfect and had his problems for sure, but in no way was he ever an actually bad person

She’s a kind woman and a republican her whole life

Then she is not a kind woman. Period. The end.

I love when Reddit acts like they know someone better than the people who actually know them

It's all relative.
