If you made $60,000 a year, it would be closer to $2.

15

u/Familiar-Spray-4678 Aug 24 '26

Is that 60,000 after taxes or before taxes? Big difference.

48

u/CrystalEntity1984 Aug 24 '26

How much taxes do you think he pays a year? You probably pay more.

34

u/Blacksad9999 Aug 24 '26

Certainly if done by percentage, yes.

These people pay an average tax rate of 4%, and only pay up to $180,000 in Social Security taxes due to the cap on it.

If we removed the cap, Social Security would be solvent forever starting tomorrow.

22

u/AspectAdventurous314 Aug 24 '26

Guys like Bezos avoid even the 4% by taking a $1 salary, taking out loans against their assets and using that as capital to spend day to day.

18

u/Blacksad9999 Aug 24 '26

Right, which is what all rich people are doing: Living on low interest loans on their accrued investments.

That's exactly why we need to tax unrealized gains on stocks, just like normal people do on their property taxes.

Accounting tricks (legal for the rich) destroying America every April for the past 30 years.

4

u/unpersoned Aug 25 '26

I remember that a few years back he was on the news for not only not paying taxes (because of this low-interest loan hack rich people live off of), but actually getting rebates on expenses on his kids' private schools.

2

u/TrickyChildhood2917 Aug 24 '26

That’s crazy talk, it’s gonna take a Democrat to make that happen… oh wait :(

2

u/Blacksad9999 Aug 25 '26

Our government is most certainly riddled with corporate sellouts who actively keep the citizens from having things that benefit them with our own money.

I'd argue that Democrats have fewer, not that it ultimately matters.

2

u/Perfect-System2504 Aug 25 '26

Social Security would already by simple math be solvent forever if we stopped taking money out of it for other things ....

2

u/Blacksad9999 Aug 25 '26

That's an urban myth.

The Social Security trust fund has been in place and untouched since it's inception in 1939. What has changed are the laws around it and who has to pay in, and how much.

It's never been put into the "General Fund" of the Government.

Social Security did used to be fully untaxed until Ronald Regan was president though, which started in 1983.

2.75b in income tax last year for Amazon.

On 77b income.

So a lot of dollars.. but not enough of a %.

14

u/CombinationOwn1604 Aug 24 '26

An effective federal tax rate of 1.4%

3

u/ShadowWalker2205 Aug 25 '26

OMG how will they survive these extortion rates

8

u/CrystalEntity1984 Aug 24 '26

But how much did he pay, he may own shares but he's not all of Amazon. The "Wealth vs. Income" Gap: Billionaires like Bezos typically draw a very small annual cash salary (historically around $82,000 from Amazon), meaning personal income taxes fluctuate heavily depending on when they choose to liquidate or sell stock shares. Stock Sales: The $2.7 billion estimate was triggered when Bezos sold roughly $13.6 billion worth of Amazon shares. Effective Rate Context: While $2.7 billion is a massive cash sum, financial analysts noted it amounted to roughly 4.5% of his total net worth increase during that surge year and roughly 1% of his overall cumulative fortune. I would like to only pay 1% income tax , average person pays roughly 30%.

6

u/Default_Name_6969 Aug 24 '26

People this rich dont pay taxes on anything really. As you said most of these rich assholes have a small salary that gets taxed and then millions-billions in stocks. They then use those stocks to take out zero interest loans to live off of. when it comes time to pay that loan they borrow from another bank to pay it off. It's like putting everything on credit and then paying off that credit card with another zero interest credit card on repeat. They borrow until they die never selling stocks so that they dont have to pay the taxes on stock gains and there is no taxes on those loans.

This 💯. I honestly believe these people are clinically mentally ill.

6

u/Wb9VBScxu2uZJHeq2E3W Aug 24 '26

There's a simple cure too, but it terrifies them more than anything that has ever existed: tax them until they're normal people again.

3

u/fbunnycuck Aug 24 '26

You do understand that in a normal administration that isnt so corrupt the govt is technically us...right? So yes more billionaires money and big businesses money should go to the givt to be distributed properly

3

u/ConcentrateJolly5461 Aug 24 '26

‘The government is technically us’ is an adorable fairy tale. I'm pretty sure 'we' didn't vote to fund endless foreign wars, bail out massive banks, and subsidize Nancy Pelosi’s stock portfolio. They aren't distributing anything back to you, bud.

It’s actually $0 to Bezos since Amazon delivery vehicles are all owned by subcontractors, not Amazon. The fines are paid by small business owners and Amazon isn’t reimbursing them for fines.

It really is jarring that anyone would take one look at what Mayor Mamdani is doing and think that it was in any way bad to have a political leader who is actually working for his constituents.

Edit: I posted this comment after seeing someone say something about Mayor Mamdani in a negative way, and I just cannot fathom that anyone who lives in his city feels anything but amazing knowing he is there. Less about Bezos, and more about what a breathe of fresh air Mr. Mamdani is.

u/imnojezus Aug 24 '26

But people who make $55k a year in rural Alabama have to hear his name spoken incredibly sarcastically on Fox News every time he uses NYC tax funds to make something better in NYC, and that's just so hard on them.

45

u/alwayssunnyinskyrim Aug 24 '26

How many rural Alabamans do you think make $55k? $25k is more like it.

Exactly. It's those lucky few $55kers that would all be the next Bezos if it weren't for Mamdani and his socialism!

.../s

11

u/Marsuello Aug 24 '26

Not even Alabama. I live in Cali and my gma has said he’s not gonna do well because of his socialist ideals. Meanwhile he’s incredibly popular by anyone not right wing and has shown for the most part he’s doing a great job overall.

4

u/RivenRise Aug 24 '26

I hope you told her that she's already wrong and he's already doing well because of his socialist ideas. All while refusing to engage on whatever bullshit she may say. Hopefully she means it with concern rooting for him and not the alternative though.

3

u/Marsuello Aug 25 '26

She basically said when she saw him doing well that people voted for it so they get what they vote for and that good he’s doing isn’t going to last forever and people will eventually see how he’s not doing a good job. She’s a kind woman and a republican her whole life but not easy to sway with politics mostly. My late grandfather was on city council for a while where I used to live and was very heavy into republican politics. When I was young he met Darrel Issa and I was in the background of one of his ads to vote for him (too young to understand what was happening). We also had a meeting with some Saudi prince or some shit like that for lunch cus my gpa had written a book about climate change being fake and the guy I guess was mentioned in it or just loved the book or something.

He was very much a good person but not great person and since she’s more quiet and submissive I think has just kind of accepted where she’s at. She was always right wing, just never super into politics in the sense of active involvement. She has good and bad takes (as we all do) but sadly with my uncle also being a fox/newsmax 24/7 person my trying to reason with her would be overturned by him spewing their bs to her.

I’m the lone left leaner in our house so I don’t have much I can do especially when dealing with a quick to anger Fox/newsmax viewer

3

u/KaleidoscopeSea9324 Aug 25 '26

I lived in North County SD for years and Issa was my rep. Left 18 years ago and I still want to vomit when I hear his name. It's hard being the lone sane person in a political conversation with Republicans. My MIL still lives there and happily supports their regime. It's mind numbing to think about so we've basically become estranged. Just wanted to let you know you're not alone, even when you're surrounded by ignorant people.

2

u/Im_Just_A_Tourist Aug 25 '26

If he wrote a book earnestly about climate change being fake he might not actually be that good of a person even if he was good to his family. It's pretty fucked up to deny something so obvious from pretty much all available data that will do untold harm to people in the future.

There's a very very large contingent of politicians, a lot of them Democrats too, that hate Mamdani because he's doing real work.

They trained an entire generation to tune out what the government does because the world is stable and government can't do anything good. So when Mamdani comes in and within a year shows how easy it is to do good, that threatens the entire order. It means Democratic voters will start to expect results instead of just being satisfied that they aren't Republicans.

13

u/SnooMaps7370 Aug 24 '26

>They trained an entire generation to tune out what the government does because the world is stable and government can't do anything good. So when Mamdani comes in and within a year shows how easy it is to do good, that threatens the entire order.

Yep. the establishment in America has spent fifty years crafting the attitude that everything the government does is automatically bad, because when the public demands that the government provide services, the robber barons can't squeeze as much money from us.

2

u/IcyGarage5767 Aug 25 '26

Yeah. Government is filled with people their for the pay and stability (lol), not to help their fellow countrymen like are entrusted to. Just takes one to actually put in the effort to make them all look bad.

2

u/orange-yellow-pink Aug 25 '26

Mamdani gets a lot of press for things that other mayors have done too. Don’t get me wrong, he’s doing a good job, but the barrage of posts boasting about his accomplishments is because he has a great marketing and PR team.

Most of what he’s done are normal democrat things. The real test will be if his city run grocery stores function well.

3

u/pizza_the_mutt Aug 24 '26

It's shocking how apparently easy it is for a leader to just go and do useful stuff. We've been hoodwinked into believing that any sort of progress is just an immense feat, and one can only expect a meaningful improvement every decade or so (while the opposite, decreases in societal functioning or life satisfaction seem to happen every day). But no, a mayor (or President, or Governor) can just make things better.

That's another bone of contention. The fact the trucks fly the Amazon banner but liability can be foisted on subs that one can only hope are adequately insured. They prolly are but the important thing is $9 million owed to the city was recovered and not just a $500,000 'gift' to Mamdamis political coffers. Which is how the corrupt politicians operate these days, starting with the extortion artist in the Whitehouse.

16

u/wildcheesybiscuits Aug 25 '26

Amazon probably did cover the fines or got expensed for them. It's nothing to them in terms of monetary amount. But also if they hadn't and forced the subcontractors to pay the fines, then those subcontractors would just turnaround and cripple their business by not driving for them (temporarily but still). Amazon would know this and isn't stupid enough to expect subcontractors doing their work to cover cost of doing business expenses.

4

u/Reasonable-Plate2982 Aug 25 '26

Good point. Obviously, subcontracting is baked in to most corporate business models these days but there will be an umbrella that the subs will prolly have to buy into. Maybe the Mamdami complaint may stem from the idea that Amazon squeezes the subs, so the underpaid sap who throws your package around ain't got the uniform benefits and decorum you may have expected. Sorta mobile sweat shop kyna thing

6

u/outoftheshowerahri Aug 24 '26

Also, don't think for a second that Amazon or any other big business won't profit off of socialism or communism or whatever buzzword you ascribe to

6

u/wandering-monster Aug 25 '26

Yes but this is like tarrifs in reverse.

Okay technically the transportation vendors pay the fines, but they aren't just going to eat that. They're going to recover it.

They do that by charging Amazon. Either directly in a lump sum, or via increased prices over time.

Amazon can afford to just eat it, and uses low shipping costs as part of it's strategy, so they'll be the one who pays in the long run.

4

u/marmaladetuxedo Aug 25 '26

An Amazon spokesperson responded to the fines, stating:

“We’ve worked with city officials to resolve these fines, many of which didn’t reach the delivery service partners whose vehicles were cited because of gaps in how violations were tracked. We’ve since established a new process to help ensure potential future violations reach the right parties. Source

It sounds like Amazon paid the majority of fines, but only because they couldn't properly figure out who to blame. But don't worry, they have a new process that will make sure they don't have to pay if/when this happens again in the future. /s

2

u/sharklaserguru Aug 25 '26

And looking at the amazon sub shitty DSPs will force their drivers to pay (or fire them since the ticket goes to the vehicle not driver).

Amazon makes between $1.5 billion and $2 billion per day in revenue, based on 2025–2026 financial data.

PER DAY.

9 million is a drop of piss in Bezos' ocean.

10

u/Gorstag Aug 24 '26

Don't conflate revenue and profit. As an example... Walmart revenue is about the same per day. Their profit is about 1.5B a month. Most of Amazons profit isn't their shipping service or their store. AWS is like 1/6th of their revenue but around 1/2 their total profit.

The numbers are still massive and they should be paying their fines regardless.

u/-Profanity- Aug 24 '26

Pre-Trump reddit was generally skeptical of believing anything as fact without a source to back it up.

Since then billions of political dollars have poured into this platform which has also gone public, and those skeptics have been replaced by zealous political experts. Now you get megaposters with hidden post histories posting tweets in random subs that somehow end up on your front page, and it's almost always some misleading point like this one. Basically the only political activity left on reddit is to agree with what the OP tells you.

We're only a few months removed from a karma farmer with a hidden post history convincing 99% of reddit that a Fox News contributor was wearing a realistic human mask in an interview for no apparent reason, simply because the OP told them it was true. Reddit has gone from the best source of information online to one of the absolute worst.

u/aceholeman Aug 24 '26

Does anyone here actually know or understand?

Jeff Bezos nor Amazon own Amazon Delivery Trucks.

They belong to Amazon Delivery Service Partners. Those are independent of Amazon.

75k to 300k is what each owner clears in net profit on average.

Amazon does own the 18 wheeled variety- that carries to distribution centers.

A simple google The Mamdani administration successfully collected $6.88 million in formal environment judgment violations and $2.15 million in pre-judgment violations accumulated across Amazon's third-party delivery network.

The Delivery Protection Act, This pending City Council bill directly targets how Amazon structures its truck and van operations. If passed, it would essentially ban Amazon from using the subcontracted DSP model in NYC, forcing the company to hire delivery drivers as direct employees with traditional benefits.

Which would cause 40 employers and 5000 employees to lose their jobs.
Then force another company to hire those 5000 employees as Amazon directly.

It would also close distro centers in thr Burroughs, and move them out of state.

Increased red tape and slower delivery with additional delivery charges. New legal requirements.

So Amazon has about $2.8 trillion market capitalization. So he's mad he has to pay 0.0003214285714285714% of Amazons worth.

Let's say you made a humble $1 million per year. 0.0003214285714285714% of your yearly salary would be 3.2 dollars. How much are you really feeling those fines at that point?

Let's pretend these 9 mill were taken straight out of Bezos' own pocket. With a net worth of $266.6 billion, 9 million is about 0.0033758439609902473%. That means you'd pay a whopping $33.75 out of your yearly $1 million salary!!!!

At this point, every single one of those mfs should be taxed into oblivion. Take everything. They deserve nothing. They should have a trillion in debt each, and be forced to work it off with minimum wage.

But, there isn't enough for us and for a small handful of billionaires who want to own everything.

u/aihaode Aug 25 '26

Bezos is a bozo.

3

u/uncouthulu_ Aug 24 '26

Jeff Bezos doesn't like music. Not a particular kind of music, he doesn't like music. Weird ass MF.

Mandani quoted Rick Ross recently.

2

u/Tupperbaby Aug 25 '26

So Mandani doesn't like music either.

I bet he used the refund from the tariffs to pay NYC. You know that Bezos the clown, isn’t gonna pay out of amazons’ account.

2

u/cardguy64 Aug 24 '26

Does everyone evil have one fucked up eye?

2

u/LazeHeisenberg Aug 24 '26

I have one eye that’s smaller than the other when I smile so… hope not.

Good on Mandami for doing the work a good mayor is expected to do.

1

u/Nilz87 Aug 24 '26

Would be funny if Bezos retaliated

1

u/scared-o-diapers Aug 24 '26

Why do all these fuckers have some gnarly eye shit. Looking at you Bezos. Wink

1

u/denv0r Aug 24 '26

Use your mouse and cover one of Bezos's eyes. Then cover the other one. He's 2 different dudes in one body..

The dims will not realize this doesn't touch Bezos 🤑

1

u/Ok_Impression3324 Aug 24 '26

Yall know amazon don't have their own trucks right?

1

u/item_raja69 Aug 24 '26

Don’t worry those fines are getting docked from the drivers’ pay.

1

u/Mundane-Stick7438 Aug 24 '26

It doesn't say 'past due'. They probably pay that every month as a cost of doing business.

1

u/Knighth77 Aug 24 '26

Fox 'News': "Muslim man bankrupts the helpless ultra rich in NY!"

1

u/Fun-Piglet801 Aug 24 '26

So, you're saying that it was retaliation? Weaponization of city resources against critics?

1

u/Haunting_Handle6709 Aug 24 '26

End corporate welfare.

1

u/TruthSeeker221 Aug 24 '26

How much did it cost in resources to recover 9M?

1

u/Tasty_LVM Aug 24 '26

Amazon has said it will stop deliveries in NyNy

1

u/OutrageousCrab9224 Aug 24 '26

"They are independant contractors"

1

u/GotSomeUpdogOnUrFace Aug 24 '26

When they eventually add a surcharge for NYC you gotta boycott and hurt their pockets or they'll never learn. A fine for a company is just a price increase for the customer which is why companies have no incentive to not break the law. If, we ever get out of the shitshow that we're in, people need to start demanding that company fines are imposed as higher tax rates especially on new profits that will accrue from them fucking people over.

1

u/Grand_Taste_8737 Aug 24 '26

Lol, like Bezos has anything to do with those trucks. Guess Mamdani showed him!!

1

u/KiNGofKiNG89 Aug 24 '26

Well it was from Amazon, FedEx, UPS, etc. Amazon owed $17M and ended up only paying like $3M.

1

u/Stealerb Aug 24 '26

With Jeff Bezos no longer being CEO and only owning 8-9% of Amazon, this is wildly incorrect. Current CEO is Andy Jassy. Pretty sure Bezos doesn't care.

1

u/KartFacedThaoDien Aug 24 '26

Is it even possible for the government to spend too much money on public schools.

1

u/adent1066 Aug 24 '26

And that’s 0.023% of the NYC public school budget.

1

u/Low-Helicopter4871 Aug 24 '26

Are We Learning ?

1

u/Careflwhatyouwish4 Aug 24 '26

How exactly did they recover this money? I'd like to see the receipt.

1

u/Suspicious-Bid-6111 Aug 24 '26

How many seconds worth of spending does that $9 million buy the city?

1

u/kheq Aug 24 '26

The part they don't say out loud is the money was recovered on the city's end. These companies (FedEx, Amazon, UPS, etx) prepay their fines in bulk to avoid situations just like this. They gets thousands of tickets every day and it would be prohibitive for someone to appear in court for all of them. The money was just from the bureaucratic process catching up a little bit, not because they got around to dealing with Amazon. The money is already allocated to them, lol.

1

u/iamtheav8r Aug 24 '26

Awesome! That will run nyc schools for 1/10 of a day.

1

u/bradandnorm Aug 24 '26

A taker and a maker

1

u/ApoBong Aug 24 '26

Confiscate his wealth. Amazon has destroyed more infrastructure around the world than it build.

1

u/Lilfrankieeinstein Aug 24 '26

Didn’t realize Bezos was a NYC resident.

1

u/Swimming-Time883 Aug 24 '26

I can’t believe I got to see a politician actually do their job in my lifetime. It feels like I’m living a myth.

1

u/lumpboysupreme Aug 24 '26

If it was one day between them then the causal relationship was almost definitely backwards. Bezos sour grapes-ing over having to pay the fine that he learned about before Amazon paid out and Mamdani announced it.

1

u/hitnrun_dryer Aug 24 '26

He had to get shit talk from bezos to enforce the law. This clown show all over the country, enforcing laws when you feel like it Is going to be hilarious

1

u/ParticularMemory789 Aug 24 '26

...as someone who has more republican beliefs than democrat - thats undeniably amazing (unless you somehow idolize bozos).

1

u/RainbowTentacle Aug 24 '26

Really sticking it to him. He makes that in like 7 min on a normal day lol

I must be reading this wrong. I'm reading it as "Jeff bezos insults mayor of NYC, so mayor of NYC goes after poor Amazon delivery drivers with unpaid parking tickets." But that doesn't really seem to mesh with everything mamdani has done

1

u/Disastrous-Window-76 Aug 24 '26

9 mill is laughable to rich people

1

u/ChanceOfMeatTornado Aug 25 '26

If this is true, I don’t love how the government doing its job is framed as retaliation for criticism. That’s the kind of thing conservatives believe is actually going on.

1

u/Woogedywoogedy Aug 25 '26

Sadly the delivery trucks don't belong to Amazon. Some other schlep has to pay those bucks. Amazon subcontracts delivery with private companies with Amazon logo vans, UPS, FedEx, and USPS among others.

1

u/Comprehensive_Bed576 Aug 25 '26

why do they both have a wierd eye?

1

u/NYSenseOfHumor Aug 25 '26

Oh no, $9 million to Amazon

That’s 0.00125 percent of its 2025 revenue of $716.9 billion.

1

u/FroyoOk8902 Aug 25 '26

You all understand Bezos is paying $0 for those fines right? Amazon is… and the only person paying for the fines are the people who order from Amazon in NY.

1

u/SierraPapaWhiskey Aug 25 '26

At least it's going in the right direction. Fight those rich pricks! Well done, man.

1

u/fawther-05 Aug 25 '26

I love Mamdani still rocks a Casio.

1

u/bolanrox Aug 25 '26

Is Mamdami wearing a Casio?

1

u/Early_Key_823 Aug 25 '26

Power and wealth allows for entitlement, corruption and antisocial tendencies.

Someone should hand him a piss bottle

1

u/Dtcomat Aug 25 '26

To be fair, Amazon delivery is outsourced to tons of independently owned 3rd party companies. I knew a guy who worked at one, and it sounded a lot like an MLM scheme. He drove a truck for so many years, and then he could apply for a license to open his own Amazon delivery company, and hire his own drivers, etc. Most of those companies have no "legal" connection to Amazon/Bezos, so this likely didn't affect them at all. Still good to collect the fees though.

1

u/Benedict_ARNY Aug 25 '26

Amazon doesn’t own their delivery trucks

1

u/blueeyeshadowaz Aug 25 '26

I bought a disco record from a third party… 15 plus years ago… the only purchase… yet I get constant spam to this day from Bezos Inc!

1

u/jcdahl Aug 25 '26

I don't believe this happened because it's literally just an image of text with two random unrelated pictures and no source or reference to anything.

1

u/Environmental_Fig942 Aug 25 '26

But did he charge on the interest that would have been owing?

1

u/ansonTnT Aug 25 '26

Easy don't deliver into NYC. Everyone problem solved.

1

u/MangakaInProgress Aug 25 '26

The sun shines bright in Mandanistan

1

u/Sanquinity Aug 25 '26

You know, I'm not a fan of Mamdani. But fair is fair. This is a definite win. Fines should absolutely be paid. And honestly, if there were that many fines from one company, that entire company should be investigated.

1

u/Longhair024 Aug 25 '26

Man what a feeling it has to be living in New York right now with this man killing it! Congrats to you all for standing behind Mamdani and letting this gentleman shine! Getting things done with the people of the city in mind! Stoked for you all!

1

u/Tasty_Dirt783 Aug 25 '26

Mángina is a rich guy him self and a lying scum bag comy .. bezo pays more taxes in one quarter and 90% of people their whole lives.
