It's nice to hear a politician that can speak coherently and use complete sentences.

28

u/mcclaneberg Aug 30 '26

Praying for something is just really hoping for it to happen. That’s all it is.

14

u/MetaCardboard Aug 30 '26

And if we're all hoping for prosperity for ourselves and others then it means we agree on what we want. Now we just have to work to get there.

5

u/PickleRickleTV Aug 30 '26

It’s also putting concious thought towards something. If I pray to let go of my fear, I’m consciously aligning myself with achieving that. If I’m praying for others, I’m consciously thinking of others and moving the focus from myself.

Will praying alone actually enact change? No. But prayer and action can be powerful, even just considering the practical aspect of it. Even if it’s to get me outside of myself and thinking of others.

We agree!

1

u/jnd2701 Aug 30 '26

If you dont have hope you dont have action. If people dont believe something can happen they wont even start trying.

2

u/mcclaneberg Aug 30 '26

sure, so just have hope, and then act.

1

u/jnd2701 Aug 30 '26

Bro not everyone's brain functions the same as yours. Some people prefer to organize goals through prayer even if they dont consciously know they're doing it. There's nothing wrong inherently with being religious. There's extremists that take it too far. Some use it to cope with the various stresses of life to carry the burdens they have so they dont stuff a shotgun down their windpipe. In the current state of things the last thing im gonna criticize is people wanting to pray to a higher power that seems moral when it seems like so much else is catered towards the immoral.

2

u/mcclaneberg Aug 30 '26

Who’s criticizing?

2

u/jnd2701 Aug 30 '26

You. Your first statement is criticizing praying as just hoping. Belittling in tone. Jaded even.

0

u/mcclaneberg Aug 30 '26

prayer is a synonym for hope.

1

u/mcclaneberg Aug 30 '26

I mean,

"pray" is a synonym for "hope"

0

u/Adventurous_Ad7442 Aug 30 '26

Not the way that Conservative Muslims pray.

2

u/mcclaneberg Aug 30 '26

Yeah people who force others to say they believe the same by violence and subjugation in general suck.

u/Gussie-Ascendent Allegedly approved user Aug 31 '26

This guy is making MAGA terrified. 🤣 They're shaking in their oversized boots.

0

u/WillyWankerWonker Aug 31 '26

Terrified we scoff is disgusting that this is what the left has come toĀ

-3

u/Thee-Cat Aug 30 '26

The guy who prays in gender segregated mosques, with his wife in her head covering relegated to the back area, scares equally misogynistic MAGA? Wait, wut? šŸ˜‚

-7

u/frankspliff Aug 30 '26

Not really. With these new flaky fringe candidates Republicans actually stand a chance. We will see, time will tell.

4

u/duskygrouper Aug 30 '26

No way they will win against Abdul. You'll see.

-2

u/frankspliff Aug 30 '26

A primary is one thing the general is a whole different story. Who knows.

2

u/duskygrouper Aug 30 '26

I am very optimistic about him, but we will see.

Just think about Obama. The made the same fuzz about him and he is still the most popular president.

2

That’s a fair statement I agree

5

These kinds of people would prefer paying 1000 for medication to a corporation than 10 dollars for medication to the government just ā€˜because that raises their taxes.’

1

u/random8765309 Aug 30 '26

The FRESH program in NYC has put in place 30 grocery stores in the city. They did so in a way that wont push other stores out of business, doesn't have the government on the hook for paying for groceries, doesn't force socialistic government control over what brands and products are offered, and doesn't have the government set prices.

Yet he gets a huge amount of press for just proposing 5 stores.

3

u/aintmesum1else Aug 30 '26

I know we are all praying for the end of the 8th year.

Americans just can't seem to leave their bigotry behind... it's their security blanket, and it excuses all the fuckery the US has historically gotten up to.

1

1

u/ElBongoloide Aug 31 '26

No... not all, of course... but a good chunk, for sure. I really don't care who listens... but, given that so many listen to the outrageously stupid hogwash that Trump, Fox News, et al. (those imbeciles make me sound downright erudite and wise in comparison) utter, I think my chances are better than average.

When you're actually more concerned with the amount of people praying to imaginary friends then asking for concrete plans on how to fix our problems and prosecute all the wealthy child predators

3

u/jnd2701 Aug 30 '26

He has info on that as well. But he has to win at least some of the Christian vote if he wants to get elected. You have to present yourself to more than just one audience. Unfortunately some do not listen to logical persuasionas much as they listen to emotion persuasion.

0

u/GameGreek Aug 30 '26

Yeah no I understand. But it still worries me the amount of magical thinking people have. There is information and knowledge literally at the tip of our fingers and yet imaginary protectors are what's going to save us. This is worrying, to have people actively choose ignorance.

1

u/jnd2701 Aug 30 '26

More proof of the mental health epidemic. Unfortunately not everyone has access to therapy be it because of financial reasons or others. But the mental does eventually affect physical.

0

u/Bushw1ckbill Aug 30 '26

I think he's presented some concrete plans. Have you not researched his platform?

1

u/GameGreek Aug 30 '26

Oh when I said the "amount of people" you thought that was singular and referring to him? Rather than it being plural and talking about a lot of people whispering their hopes into the air for imaginary friends to make come true. You nailed it.

Just another manipulation technique. Several of them do it and it distracts from the authenticity of their message once you hear it. Shapiro, Mandami, Jeffries, that maniac AG from VA, it’s just another tell of their inauthenticity. Good consultant work though.

1

We all want these things. There are different paths to take to get there, and it doesn't matter which path we take to get there. As long as we get there.

Don't let the powerful convince you otherwise.

u/Top-Plenty-5307 Aug 30 '26

I think that half the population believing in fairy tales is the problem. You cannot have a rational conversation with someone who bases their life on a fairy tale book that's full of hate

1

1

u/hollyglaser Aug 30 '26

A hateful messenger is untrustworthy

1

u/Significant-Dog-8166 Aug 30 '26

Either do or do not do.

Prayer is worse than procrastination or unfulfilled promises. It is a commitment to do nothing, then give credit to fiction if other people make things happen.

1

u/Medium_Ad_4568 Aug 30 '26

There is a huge difference between what he said and the idea that all children should be treated with love, regardless of their faith, rather than emphasizing the rejection of other faiths that exists to varying degrees in all Abrahamic religions, and particularly strongly in some of them. And what about non-religious kids? Even if that was what he meant, saying it explicitly would have cost him support. And that is sad. But that is the reality.

1

u/Happy_Librarian_3817 Aug 30 '26

Such a message is either valid or invalidated by the actions of the messenger.

u/EClucky13 Tea? Earl Grey, hot Aug 31 '26

As much as i agree with you, remember religion is still a hot button topic. As a NYer I saw this first hand with our mayoral run. Zohran Mamdani faced this from every angle and won! Doing an amazing job so far. Despite all his successes so far he is still hated by certain NYers just for his religion.

1

u/LoamyLoamisLoamy Aug 31 '26

I don't care what he prays for. I care what he votes for.

1

u/BathFriendly3061 Aug 31 '26

To get our votes to get rich. Never trust a politician that tells you how to pray and never trust a religious personnel that tells you how to vote. Don't be stupid and believe in all this guys flip flopping hype.

1

u/Minute-Review6915 Aug 30 '26

But can’t state Jewish people have a right to exist. Somehow i doubt this post or statement

2

u/Bushw1ckbill Aug 30 '26

When did he say they didn't? And what does representing the people of Michigan have to do with Israel or Jewish people in general? Is there some Jewish genocide happening in Michigan?

2

u/Minute-Review6915 Aug 30 '26

He was literally asked in an interview and changed the subject. I didn’t say the state of Israel I said Jewish people. He refused to say they did.

So yes it affects anyone who is Jewish and lives in the state. Not that difficult to understand.

1

u/Bushw1ckbill Aug 30 '26

What the does the right of Jewish people to exist have to do with running for Michigan senator? Have they asked Mike Rogers or any other white candidate this question?

Also, what magic power does Sayed have in determining the right of Jewish people to exist?

2

u/Minute-Review6915 Aug 30 '26

So a group of people who are in fact his own constituents have to do with his belief if they should be allowed to exist on this earth have to do with it? It’s a straight forward question he refused to answer. You can pretend to be ignorant but his lack of answer has already made many Jews question his support against them as a group of people. It’s not that complex at all.

1

u/Bushw1ckbill Aug 30 '26

What was Mike Roger's response?

1

u/duskygrouper Aug 30 '26 edited Aug 30 '26

Nobody is against the existence of jewish people, especcially not Abdul. What he didn't state is, that the israeli state hat a right to exist as an apartheid ethno-state. Which is correct and a view shared by many jews who value human rights and peace. Well, some republican neo-nazis actually have a problem with jews as people, but they equally hate muslims like Abdul.

2

u/Minute-Review6915 Aug 30 '26

The questions was not Israeli state, it was do Jewish people….. there’s a big difference. He knew the question. He’s either pandering to one side or truly believes they don’t. Either way that’s a non starter

u/duskygrouper Aug 30 '26 edited Aug 30 '26

"Most people don't ask HOW I pray..." El-Sayed

Yeah, that's probably for the best, or else you'd need to explain why you pray in GENDER SEGREGATED mosques with women relegated to cramped spaces in the back or not invited at all. Whoops.

Yeah, that would probably damage the whole "I'm so progressive" BS, wouldn't it?

Anti-American who can’t live up to the ā€œuphold and defend ā€œ part of the oath of office.

2

u/hugoriffic Aug 30 '26

Who brought up Trump or his entire administration??

-1

u/ChiefOfTheBoat Aug 30 '26

Trump has some douche bag things under his belt, but at least he is an American. Al-Sayed has two strikes against him. He’s a socialist and a Muslim. Neither one is aligned with Constitutional principles.

1

u/hugoriffic Aug 30 '26

ā€œTwo strikesā€ because he’s Muslim and supposedly a socialist? That’s not a constitutional argument. That’s racism, xenophobia, and bigotry with a faux Constitution sticker slapped on it.

Article VI explicitly says there can be no religious test for public office, so being Muslim is quite literally not a constitutional strike. And Al-Sayed identifies as a progressive and a capitalist, so calling him a socialist doesn’t become true just because you don’t like his policies. You’ll need to become more familiar with a politician’s policies and let your hatred of POC not blind you to the facts.

You’re free to oppose Medicare for All or anything else he supports. But ā€œMuslimā€ and a label you’ve assigned him aren’t evidence that someone is unqualified or opposed to the Constitution. And ā€œat least Trump is an Americanā€ is especially absurd—Al-Sayed is an American too.

1

u/Bushw1ckbill Aug 30 '26

Can you expound on this claim?

0

u/masheo Aug 30 '26

The US government held an emergency meeting to address allegations of corruption, cover-ups, and powerful people protecting sexual predators. After several hours, they emerged with a clear, bipartisan message: ā€œWe’ve investigated ourselves, protected everyone important, and reached the only conclusion Washington can agree on: fuck the kids.ā€

2

u/duskygrouper Aug 30 '26

That is what actually happened, except for the transparency. The started a war instead.

0

u/Bushw1ckbill Aug 30 '26
