Why are they allowed to get away with this?! This is insanity

28

u/un-tv_star Sep 07 '26

Because they still have the majority...

20

u/CaptainForskin69 Sep 07 '26

Doesn’t mean you get to be absent for your job for over 80 days with zero public appearances. It’s so obvious of a cover up.

8

u/ofWildPlaces Sep 07 '26

You are correct, but there is no watchdog agency that can compel a sitting Rep or Senator to take their seat on the floor. Republicans COULD hold him accountable, but they've clearly shown they will not.

8

u/DaleGribbleShackle Sep 07 '26

Didn't they send sheriff's after democrats to drag them back to office for something last year? Why not just do that.

9

u/Somedude_6 Sep 07 '26

Exactly what the guy above said, Republicans control the Sergeant at Arms and the ability to make referrals to the US Marshall's office who would go about doing the physical work. As long as Mike Johnson is in control, absolutely nothing will happen to any Republican. Epstein Files are a giant example of this.

6

u/ColonelDucroix Sep 07 '26

Why would republicans do that for one of their own?

5

u/Ok_Zookeepergame4794 Sep 07 '26

Because the Republicans don't enforce the rules on one of their own, that's why.

1

u/i_am_a_real_boy__ Sep 07 '26

It probably has something to do with the little-known fact that the Texas Legislature and US Senate are actually completely different things

1

u/TurquoiseLuck Sep 07 '26

I've got no idea about this really, but isn't the IRS supposed to go after people who are incorrectly claiming and receiving government money?

1

u/ofWildPlaces Sep 07 '26

How can they do that when the president is actively using federal agencies to abet his actions?

-1

u/PuzzleheadedWeb9876 Sep 07 '26

Americans could demand it. But they’re so used to getting fucked it will never happen.

1

u/ofWildPlaces Sep 07 '26

You seem to think that "demanding" something will simply make it happen. That's not how it works.

-2

u/PuzzleheadedWeb9876 Sep 07 '26

Okay. You Americans keep doing the same thing then. It’s clearly working.

1

u/OhItsBeenBroughten Sep 07 '26

You wouldn’t be doing anything differently, keyboard warrior.

0

u/PuzzleheadedWeb9876 Sep 07 '26

I cannot say. I don’t live in a country with such stupid rules. So it’s never come up.

1

u/OhItsBeenBroughten Sep 07 '26

You sure do have a big mouth when you’re telling other people what to do.

u/Austinp-woodworking Sep 07 '26

Yeah this shouldn’t even require a manual intervention - this whole situation is only possible because there are no actual rules that congress(wo)men have to actually do their fucking jobs

If I disappeared for 3 months at my job, they’d have already filled my position by now and be a good way into onboarding my replacement

1

u/notanotherusernameD8 Sep 07 '26

You can if your job is to occupy a seat to keep trump in power

1

u/Mish61 Sep 07 '26

Apparently it does 🤷‍♂️

1

u/Acobbsalad Sep 07 '26

Seems like it does. I get what you mean but if they are doing it and no in trouble then they can

1

u/TableSignificant341 Sep 07 '26

>Doesn’t mean you get to be absent for your job for over 80 days with zero public appearances.

I mean it very clearly does. The fascists are doing whatever the fck they want.

The fact that America voted for this will never not blow my mind.

1

u/Morguard Sep 07 '26

Yeah but who's going to do anything about it?

1

u/Eternal_Bagel Sep 07 '26

Clearly it does mean that.  You just gotta have the red team on your side

1

u/ScrapDraft Sep 08 '26

Who do you expect to hold them accountable?

8

u/NotAnotherBlingBlop Sep 07 '26

Are you serious? They support an adjudicated rapist as president. They vote against school lunches for children. They refuse to give death benefits to soldiers. This is the least worrying thing Republicans have done.

2

u/Lerkero Sep 07 '26

Congress could easily pass new legislation to regulate how sitting congressperaons must report to their duty station every number of days or face termination.

They dont want to modernize those type of rules because they tend to only care for partisan reasons, and they want to preserve that partisan power

2

u/ofWildPlaces Sep 07 '26

The problem is the very people who could pass this (held by a Republican majority) won't pass this because they are...a Republican majority.

1

u/Lerkero Sep 07 '26

Democrats have had a congressional majority multiple times in recent history. Proposing legislation also does not require a majority in congress.

This is not a partisan thing. Everyone in congress is complicit in this lack of accountability

2

u/ofWildPlaces Sep 07 '26

But they do not hold it now, do they?

1

u/IamTheEndOfReddit Sep 07 '26

So they have zero participation requirements? It’s nuts

1

u/Lerkero Sep 07 '26

Technically, the rest of congress can vote one of the members out if that member is not showing up for work, but this is usually a procedure used for partisan reasons unless the congressperson is being so egregious that there is widespread public outcry about it

2

u/Pepphen77 Sep 07 '26

Because shitty 200 year old institutions that should be rejuvenated.

1

u/Enough_Affect_9916 Sep 07 '26

because we won't revolt with air conditioning and pizza.

1

u/murmalerm Sep 07 '26

The GOP is comprised of criminal cowards

1

u/0x0MG Sep 07 '26

Because the people who would hold them accountable and impose consequences are themselves.

1

u/D3dshotCalamity Sep 07 '26

Because no one stops them

1

u/Gigimaximo Sep 07 '26

See the power of having the majority?

1

u/CaptainForskin69 Sep 07 '26

Nobody is denying that.

1

u/ShowMeYourBoobsPls Sep 07 '26

Democrats don't ever do anything at all to help in any way. They just stand and watch

1

u/Engrish_Major Sep 07 '26

Because they’re white supremacists. Full stop. This country is abhorrently immoral and a majority of people are related to or friends with people who are ok with it. Nothing will change if people keep enabling it.

0

u/fuckDJT2026 Sep 07 '26

Because they run everything and we’re too busy complaining on Reddit instead of taking to the streets and b****ng shit down

0

u/Sconnie-Waste Sep 07 '26

You answered your own question there, Cap’n

0

u/ThatDudeFromFinland Sep 07 '26

No offence, but you, the people let them get away with this.

Nothing is going to change, as long as the American common people behave like neutered docile dogs.

The rest of the world has been waiting for you guys to do something for a while now.

You reap what you sow.

Lloyd was the Defense Secretary, McConnell is a senator. Biden wasn't told for 4 days, pentagon wasn't told. US forces were conducting active operations in Iraq at the time and also his deputy was on vacation while the president, national security adviser, and secretary of state didn't know where he was. Then it turned out it was for prostate cancer treatment, which he had also kept secret.

0

u/ImageAvailable7003 Sep 07 '26

Because McConnell is a senator and Lloyd Austin was Secretary of Defense. It's not the same.

-2

u/ThePatrickSays Sep 07 '26

because you americans will not do anything about it
