u/tutoredstatue95 Sep 07 '26
They are but repubs have been doing this shit for a long time
5
u/Dislodged_Puma Sep 07 '26
Yeah I hate that Republicans get a full out now with MAGA like they tried to with the Tea Party. They have sucked since Reagan (well before him too to set him up), and they continue to push the failure of the American Democracy in favor of self interests.

u/kitsunewarlock Sep 07 '26
Remember when they pardoned Nixon then spent the entire Carter administration investigating him for enriching himself, finding nothing but running Reagan as the "anti-corruption" candidate?
Remember when they pardoned Reagan's fall man (Ollie North) and then spent the entire Clinton administration investigating him for putting his family in white house positions, found nothing but stole the house in the midterms on "anti-corruption" rhetoric?
The GOP has been doing this shit since long before Trump's "MAGA".

We all need to get better at confronting this. I feel like I failed in my own life by not shutting all of the bs down when I heard it. Not being mean, but genuinely guiding them towards the truth.

Hypocrisy requires both a sense of shame, and an understanding that one is acting counter to their values. Republicans don't feel shame. And their only value is "power at any cost." So they're not being hypocritical. They acting entirely within their values.
McConnell himself would be proud of the way his party is handling his absence and manipulating the system to maintain a stranglehold on his seat. That is, he would proud if he wasn't a vegetable or dead, which he is very obviously is one of those things.

Can we all agree he's either dead or in vegetative state, and the Republicans are doing everything to avoid losing another seat in the senate, especially with an incoming blue wave in the house and senate....
91
u/CaramelGuilty8647 Sep 07 '26
He was in a vegetative state before he went missing, so I can definitely agree with you.
19
u/External_Music_3927 Sep 07 '26
Yes, he would get paralyzed in front of cameras and not be able to speak.
6
u/Aggressive-Crab-6809 Sep 07 '26
Conspiracy theory here.... Mich has been brain dead for some time and under the control of one of Elons nural links. š Reimplantation is taking longer than expected. /S

And oddly enough it hasnāt had much impact on his professional career, he still just obstructs progress

Two words: TERM LIMITS. Congress isnāt a retirement home.
24
u/TiddiesAnonymous Sep 07 '26
Age limits tho
6
u/Lerkero Sep 07 '26 edited Sep 07 '26
Term limit is better than age limit. There could be older people who genuinely have something valuable to contribute to their constituents and maybe not worth keeping them out.
The goal of term limits should be to reduce chances anyone young or old will abuse their seniority and time in office for their own gain

Doesnāt mean you get to be absent for your job for over 80 days with zero public appearances. Itās so obvious of a cover up.
10
u/ofWildPlaces Sep 07 '26
You are correct, but there is no watchdog agency that can compel a sitting Rep or Senator to take their seat on the floor. Republicans COULD hold him accountable, but they've clearly shown they will not.

u/DaleGribbleShackle Sep 07 '26
Didn't they send sheriff's after democrats to drag them back to office for something last year? Why not just do that.
8
u/Somedude_6 Sep 07 '26
Exactly what the guy above said, Republicans control the Sergeant at Arms and the ability to make referrals to the US Marshall's office who would go about doing the physical work. As long as Mike Johnson is in control, absolutely nothing will happen to any Republican. Epstein Files are a giant example of this.

Are you serious? They support an adjudicated rapist as president. They vote against school lunches for children. They refuse to give death benefits to soldiers. This is the least worrying thing Republicans have done.
16
u/KingHygelacReturns Sep 07 '26
I'm genuinely shocked that there isn't more anger from Republicans. His absence materially benefits Democrats more than anything. For every day he's not there, that means the GOP majority is one vote down in the Senate, which only makes it harder to pass the GOP agenda in the Senate.
10
u/Pristine-Ad983 Sep 07 '26
I don't think they really care. They haven't done much even when Mitch was there. They are content to let Trump do whatever he wants.
→ More replies (1)4
u/PlainBread Sep 07 '26
They know leaving the ball in the air leaves them down one vote but if they took accountability then there's a risk that they would lose the seat to a Democrat and then they would be down two votes.
The fact they aren't willing to risk it for the biscuit is bullish.
→ More replies (7)3
u/ichabod13 Sep 07 '26
This is the part I am not understanding. Left wing media is eating this story up, every day on reddit there are more Mitch posts on the /r/all but it benefits the Democrats when it comes to voting.
Even if he was dead today, the election would not happen by the state laws this November. At this point these posts feel more like a designed distraction away from things like the Epstein files or the failed war in Iran or the costs of everything that should be fueling the midterm sweep. But instead every day it is about Trump sleeping or Mitch missing blah blah here.

u/GandalfSwagOff Sep 07 '26
Because it is getting buried.
There isn't a single report of any member of the media even trying to get information about McConnell because there has been an agreement within all corporate media to bury any story. You'd think someone would have cameras outside his house? You'd think someone would report on doctors or professionals coming and going? Nope. You get nothing.
The man will never be seen again. He is either dead or completely incapacitated. You will never hear from him again. Some day in the future there will be a report that he quietly passed away in his sleep after an extended illness. That is all you'll ever get.

MTG would be outside McConnell house demanding answers. This is exactly why Democrats don't win. Go make a big deal about this evil guy being missing.
2
u/Tmmike Sep 07 '26
The GOP fears Thomas Massie as a replacement for McConnell. If a special election was held, it would be a possibility that Massie would take that Ky senate seat. He could then influence the senate to deal with the Epstein files which they have largely ignored.
2
u/jthadcast Sep 07 '26
if you don't have the votes to control gop ... no logic matters if you don't have the votes to control the gop. too many democrats vote with the gop to keep the horror show going.
2
u/atreeismissing Sep 07 '26
Don't leave out the media. There was a media shit storm for several weeks over Austin's hospital visit. While there has been some coverage of McConnell, the attention from the media has been largely absent.

2

Look, this is power politics. You donāt have to like it, but the goal is to use whatever leverage you have to obstruct your opponents and advance your side. Calling out hypocrisy wonāt change much when consistency was never the priority. To them, itās a zero-sum game, hurting the other side counts as a win, even when it accomplishes nothing else
