Mamdani is trying to turn a profit? I thought the whole point was that he wasn’t trying to profit, thereby saving customers money.

I mean, why would a state run store need to make a profit though?

I get that, but I’m asking why not just have the store sell at cost to save consumers even more money?

I don’t really have a point. I was just trying to understand yours. I sincerely doubt, however, that making a cheeky point about grocers charging more than they could by a few percentage points matters more than simply offering tax payers steeper discounts. Doesn’t seem politically savvy as a strategy.

Because "good" is still better than "awful", even if "perfect" would be more so.
