“Of all the things at risk, the loss of an object reality is perhaps the most dangerous. The death of truth is the ultimate victory of evil. When truth leaves us, when we let it slip away, when it is ripped from our hands we become vulnerable to whatever monster screams the loudest.”

cute that you think it was only a decade ago. This is the same "butt they has WMDz" playbook that put us in Iraq over 2 decades ago and the Iran Contra Affair over 4 decades ago.

Trump can tell people that fuel is less expensive than under Biden, but they still have to fill their gigantic pick up trucks and they can't lie their way around that

30

u/creampop_ 11d ago

that's why there's a hundred excuses floating around the maga sphere at any given moment.

even if they admit fuel costs are higher, suddenly the conversation becomes about nuclear deterrence.

The only constant is that it's never Daddy's fault.

24

u/Zealousideal-Aide890 11d ago

My father is a Fox “news” addict and he recently told me that gas is only high because governors like Newsom and Hochul are hoarding it to make Trump look bad. So there’s always some ridiculous excuse.

15

u/UMDSmith 11d ago

The moment someone says Fox news, I just interrupt and say, oh that parody news channel? Then I cite the lawsuit where THEY said they were just an entertainment network and don't actually give facts.

Then I make them feel stupid. I'm like "oh shit, you thought that was actually real news? Oh...I'm so sorry."

End it there. Make them feel dumb, move on. I want to bring shame back.

6

u/Braxjoes 11d ago

I have personally tried this. Multiple times. It usually ends the same way each time. They either claim it's not true or it's fake news, or they move the goal post and double down. The issue with trying to shame people like this is that they don't act like emotionally mature people who can self reflect and admit they were wrong.

It's working then. All fox cares about is getting people emotionally addicted to their propaganda. Sprinkle in a sporadic light seasoning of facts, and voila.

I think a certain group has always found a way to get their propaganda "fix". Before fox there was the fellas at the bar, or wrinkled up newsletter that guy handed out in front of the hardware store.... Only now, the "fix" is medical grade.

They'll remind you that they're "free thinkers" by the way. Trump said it was Ukraine's fault for high diesel prices like a week ago, and they all started parroting that line. Ignore the fact that prices magically started to rise immediately after Trump started the war with Iran, apparently that had nothing to do with it. It was Ukraine which has been bombing Russian refineries for the past year or more that caused the sudden spike in prices precisely when Trump started a war with Iran.

MAGAts are dumb fucks.

4

u/Electric_Antimony 11d ago

They'll say the can't vote Democratic because Democrats are super crazy and can't tolerate different thoughts than their own, as if they actually have any thoughts of their own. Then you'll watch them say the most ridiculous and laughably illogical and irrational things so they can contort themselves to the new dictated reality handed down to them by republicans.

It should be entrapped and put on display like a circus. They're circus freaks.

6

u/Missingman666 11d ago

You're a weirdo. not only does driving slightly slower on the highway actually increase fuel efficiency. slowing down and then smashing the pedal to drive like a "bat out of hell" actually decreases yours.

You are literally no different than MAGA where intentionally harming yourself to "own" your opponent is the goal.

I don't know if the WSJ lied about the ships or she misquoted, but the number of ships going through the Strait of Hormuz is still almost zero. It's still 100% closed and under control of Iran.

The fact the GOP and Trump are suggesting otherwise when the raw truth is so easy to see is shocking and nobody is calling them out on their lies.

https://en.macromicro.me/charts/94482/imf-strait-of-hormuz-number-of-ships-and-transit-volume

8

u/Status_Block591 11d ago

We don't call it Faux News for nothing! I remember watching an interview during COVID where they absolutely edited the shit out of an interview so the authors of a journal article sounded as if they were in support of an exactly-opposite point that their journal article was analyzing and defending. That was the last time I consumed anything from Fox that wasn't a motion picture or a sports broadcast.

5

u/TheOGRedline 7d ago

Even if ships were moving through the straight at the same rate they were last January its cost American consumers over 100 BILLION dollars in increased fuel costs and other related costs, plus the expense of the war itself.

14

u/DiseaseDeathDecay 11d ago

You can't lie about stuff people see everyday.

No, but you can lie about headlines that mislead, like there's almost as much oil going through the strait as there was before the war.

The fact is that we're almost back up to the same level of oil leaving the gulf states because they have found ways around the strait. More expensive ways. Oil is still not getting through the strait at anywhere near the level it was before the war.

5

u/RudePCsb 11d ago

Oil production is down too so I'm not sure where they are getting the same levels. Iran bombed several oil refineries and those will take time to rebuild

10

u/TheWingus 11d ago

That's why Republicans don't do debates or town halls anymore. It's one thing to go on Fox News and say "Everything is great, the economy is booming, there's more money than ever in this country!"

It's another to say to someone's face, "The reality you're facing every day is wrong and everything is actually great"

8

u/patchhappyhour 11d ago

This is why they talk so fast. It's all to confuse the watcher and to constantly push the buzz words which in reality is just pavlovian.

Ignorant Fox News pushing an agenda that is complete lies right wing media. What a shame what happened to reporting the truth.

135

u/MulzStridor 11d ago

“In an earlier separate slander lawsuit involving host Tucker Carlson, Fox's legal team successfully argued in court that reasonable viewers do not expect Carlson to state actual facts, describing his program as featuring non-literal commentary and rhetorical hyperbole.”

48

u/BoyDynamo 11d ago

Exactly. They literally argued in court that Fox did not need to uphold journalistic integrity because it is not a news program. It’s just entertainment.

21

u/MsMarfi 11d ago

So why are they still allowed to call themselves "Fox News"? Can we start a class action?

15

u/volatile_ant 11d ago

No, because they were right. Reasonable viewers don't expect the truth from fox news. Unfortunately, the number of reasonable people in this country is dwindling.

6

u/mm_reads 11d ago

The argument should never have been allowed to include "reasonable people"

7

u/SkunkMonkey 11d ago

Because this case was about the Tucker Carlson show and not their general news programming as everyone seems to think. Fox only claimed that Tucker's show was full of shit and people should know that.

I am not defending Faux Newz here, only pointing out how people misrepresent that legal case.

I remember when they showed up and their tagline was "Fair & Balanced". I said at the time if you have to call yourself fair and balanced, chances are pretty good that you're not.

If people didn't watch it for 30 years it wouldn't exist. It would go the way of the Inside Edition show it was modeled after by Roger Ailes.

In those 30 years, I've never once turned a channel to Fox "News" and I never will. When I enter a place of business such as a Firehouse Subs or a bar that has FN on in the background, I request that they change it. When they inevitably say the manager won't let them or the channels don't change, I leave the establishment.

Democrats failed to bring up the next generation of leadership. Pelosi, Schumer, Connolly, Feinstein, etc. - even Biden who I wasn't the biggest fan of - are wonderful politicians and did many great things for America during their long careers. But they refused to cede power even as they aged.

I'm not an advocate for term limits. I think it's fantastic to have Nancy Pelosi in our government fighting for the people, and I'd hate to see her retire. But she could easily have given up Speakership well before 2024. I think having a geriatric President and Speaker is a big reason for the failures of the Biden presidency, because they chased personal policy victories that were decades in the making rather than ceding any kind of political control to the people who voted them into office.

I think the flailing economy has caused younger people (especially millennials but also gen z) to keep our heads down and not run for office. How are you supposed to run when you work a shit dead-end retail job and barely have time or money to do things for yourself? Honestly I wanted to run, and then there were always so many fucking problems in my life that took greater priority. I'm 30 now with zero connections, massive phone anxiety, and dozens of my nudes saved to random Grindr users' phones. I don't think I could even take second place for county dogcatcher. As with almost all questions related to our current world problems: because of capitalism.

Rich people exist. People who want strong middle class and no poverty exist. These people want to tax the rich to level the playing field. Rich people want to keep their money. Rich people need politics that support them and stop politics that'll hurt them. Rich people know media can influence a societys voting behavior. They have the money to influence/buy media. Media brainwashes people to think "rich=good" politics is good for them too. People vote for rich people. People get fucked. People angry. Rich people dont want to be target of that anger. Media of rich people tell angry people the brown/trans/leftwing people are to blame.

The cycle continues.

Lol, it's weird how the US has a Department of War, a Secretary of War, and aggressions in eight-ish countries, yet somehow there’s never a war. Like...the Iran war is referred to as preemptive retaliatory de-escalation action (updated from a little excursion!). Turns out the word war invites congressional votes and accountability, so they quietly made the Pentagon a branding department specialising in euphemisms.

40

u/Dancinfool830 11d ago

Except that except that Fatty Shartbuckle keeps claiming we won the war, and that the war is going to be over very soon

10

u/MZ603 11d ago

Also, claiming “oil through the strait is almost back to where it was before the war” is such a stupid argument. Thats their only potentially obtainable goal. Except, now, ships will be paying a toll/tax/fee to get through, Iran can shut it down again whenever they want, & it will take months for that oil to make it to market.

On top of all of that, the security architecture of the region has fundamentally changed, we’ve spent $100s of billions, Bibi / Israel could reignite conflict at any time, the KSA already reignited the war in Yemen, AQAP is making a comeback, drone components are flowing into Somalia (where we still have troops, our stock piles are depleted, Ethiopia is on the verge of another civil war, the Sahel is hotter than ever, Ebola is raging in the DRC, millions are facing a food crisis in Sudan, & were are potentially looking at a bigger migrant crisis than we saw with Syria in the coming years.

I only listed like half the shit we are completely ignoring. We are weaker, have fewer allies, and shit isn’t about to magically get cheaper.

A pox on Fox.

They are a cancer that is forcing people to adapt. The democratic party is the only way forward but the only way to push the party forward is through candidates like Mamdani and El-Sayed who do what they know is right rather than playing by the self defeating playbook the failed DNC keep pushing

It's good to see some people understand some news agencies weaponize air time to mold the perspective of viewers through rhetoric rather than through good faith attempts to inform.

Fox news is propaganda, that's the gist of what I'm saying and El-Sayed is clearly intelligent enough to understand that

7

4

u/DrAstralis 11d ago

I'll never understand how the high road became "roll over and take it". That's never what it meant. It meant if you were going to punch someone in the face you'd best have a damn good reason.

It's not "the high road" to ignore the myraid of crimes and crimes against humanity the GoP commit on the daily; The high road would be making sure you follow the law and present evidence while you use the power of the state to punish them for being such shit people.

4

u/iloveplant420 11d ago

I totally agree. The problem they face is constant purity checks from their own side, and they fall victim to trying to please every niche group in the liberal left, but they end up pleasing no one and giving the right more ammo. Fox was “No more war!!” until Trump started another war, then they changed their tune really damn quick into, “more war, daddy Trump!!!” They’re state TV at this point.

Let’s never forget that this is a “news” channel that has argued in court that they aren’t a news channel, but an “entertainment channel.” This is the same network that (again, in court) argued that no rational person would believe the things their most popular evening show hosts say are true. This is also the same network that were sued for lying about Dominion Voting Systems in the 2020 election and ultimately settled with the company for a grand total of $787 million dollars.

I’m of the opinion that you probably shouldn’t be able to legally claim to be a news outlet if you can’t tell the truth or even be bothered to try to be accurate in what you say. They have a word for that kind of thing: propaganda.

That’s why Karoline Leavitt will fit right in with the gang of liars at Fox News. She’ll have the same job she had before: lying on behalf of Donald Trump, only now she’ll be lying on the private sector dime instead of tax payers’ money.

5

u/SaltyLengthiness260 11d ago

Iran is one of those situations where war is just not a realistic way to handle it. We did far more damage to it just sanctioning it and rooting out its militias across the middle east than we ever did in directly fighting it.

Now we've proven just how easy it is for them to completely fuck over the oil trade.

7

u/aerost0rm 11d ago

We didn’t learn the lesson is Iraq. Then again in Afghanistan. These white nationalists think our military is the best in the world and that the amount we spent in “defense” is justified. We could easily shift a large part of the budget away from defense and do more with less to “defend” ourselves. Improve our day to day lives with that extra funding and still have savings.

10

u/Fair_Chemistry_3317 11d ago

I've seen him doing it every time he speaks in front of people!

I have more and more respect for him and I hope Michiganders realize how lucky they are to have such a smart and capable guy on their ballot!

7

u/mrcrumplebottom 11d ago

We need more like him. Most people that are on the left feel like they are apologizing all the time, or are too scared to have an opinion. Love this energy.

Fox News is corporate news, which means they are paid to say the things that capitalist entities write for them. I don't think this model is singular to Fox News or that only Fox News is responsible to causing so many wars, but Fox News is responsible for Trump, Hegseth, and ICE attacks.

4

u/Towerss 11d ago

Nah, WSJ is corporate news. Fox News is the propaganda wing of the Murdoch empire and is nowhere near being considered news, it's purely there to shift voter sentiment among the poorly educated to the right.

Murdoch does not like Trump, most billionaires do not. They just think it's better for voters to like him than to like left-wing candidates.

9

u/JROXZ 11d ago

You want to be for war? Okay. Start by looking at the VA.

Holy shit, her response to “we can’t move oil and gas” is, “We’re almost ready to move oil and gas.” How can they be this fucking stupid?

5

u/VegetableEngine_ 11d ago

He may have, I haven't seen the full interview, but I really wish he would have latched onto her own words there. "We're almost to the level of getting oil and gas out of the region that we were at before the war started."

If the goal posts are now to get back to where we were if we did literally fucking nothing, than why the hell are we there in the first place? That's even true to the nuclear proliferation agreements (the claimed reason we're there), where the goal was basically to get the same agreement Obama made but with Trump's name on it. You can't lateral move that, renegotiating an agreement like that isn't possible without the US making concessions.

All MAGAtards see is a Mooslim. They don't care about truth. I try to have a conversations with people about this BS Administration and in on one occasion somebody said but Kamala is trying to get sex changes to prisoners. Also Bidens economy was worse. I had to point out current gas prices and inflation rates. He still did not care. I have no energy to even have a normal conversation with the Fox ROT BRAINWASHED PEOPLE!

$47 billion so far (according to the always honest folks at the Pentagon) for the Iran War plus hundreds of millions to repair damaged bases in the region, plus the weapons and the $4-6 billion we give to Israel (they have socialized medicine, the USA doesn’t) each year, fuel and transportation costs that will bankrupt trucking compagnies and farmers, and raise food prices for everyone.

Boy Scout Eggsack is asking for additional special funding of $47 billion and Trump wants next year’s defence budget to be $1.5 trillion.

4

u/blaivas007 11d ago

The math in your comment implies the Iran war has been going on for 40 days so far. It all started in March, roughly 220 days ago. Am I misunderstanding something?

7

u/yesiammark72 11d ago

So we have wasted hundreds of billions of dollars, put our military in a weakened position, destroyed our reputation with the world, and we are trying to “get back to like it was BEFORE the war…that we started!” Fucking idiots!!

5

u/AccountHuman7391 11d ago

“Hmmm, I don’t like your answer, so I’m going to move on.”

“No you’re not, we’re going to continue to talk about this.”

5

u/No_Pipe9068 11d ago

They're never critical of the financial black hole that exists at the DoD and how they can't pass a basic audit. The money is never enough. Then they'll clamor for more war with another country. Pushing more debt. Then when "dumbocrats" get elected they'll blame the debt on them.

5

u/remlapj 11d ago

It used to cost $50k per tanker to get through Hormuz. Right now it’s costing about $1m. It’s not the same

Also, the point of the war wasn’t to get things back to how they were before.

5

u/notthatgreat2 11d ago

As someone who works on VA projects this is 100% true. Millions of dollars have been slashed from veteran care across the country because of this administration. This means less care for veterans as well as money out of the pockets of veteran owned businesses that work on these projects.

They are choosing to ignore and hurt veterans before they started this war and they continue to cancel projects left and right.

5

u/taco_helmet 11d ago

"The answer is always more war" - Boomers and Gen Xers, who largely still run things, were brought up during the Cold War. The U.S. population was programmed to believe that being anti-war was equivalent to being pro-communism (especially with Vietnam). War is patriotic. Bush got a 2nd term from being a wartime president and expending Americans lives in a war that had nothing to do with 9/11. Now we have Iran with no end in sight.  This is just part of their programming.

I've been seeing people who claimed that shipping out of the strait is back to pre-war levels, and I wondered what their source was.

Must have been the US government and Fox.

3

u/ToolTimeT 11d ago

Its simply not true what that woman said... they were moving 20 million+ barrels per day pre war through the strait, now those same countries are moving 12 to 13 million barrels per day and 1/3 of that is through alternate paths such as pipelines and not even through the strait.

El-Sayed speaks with intelligence and a thought out point if view. I so hope the voters of Michigan can see that they have a chance to elect a serious candidate this November.

3

u/bowmans1993 11d ago

Beyond that. For everyone that says the middle east is so anti American and they would destroy us if they could. Maybe if we ya know.... stop bombing them and overthrowing their governments they wouldnt hate us so much... its the same with Israel. Its a self fulfilling prophecy. If you run people into the dirt and kill their wives, children and give them nothing to live for. Don't be surprised if they become radicalized and willing to strap a bomb to their chest. If they think they're going to be blown up by an airstrike why not just blow yourself up at an enemy's embassy?

3

u/dustin-dawind 11d ago

"There's a war for that" is a great line.

3

u/DrAstralis 11d ago

Riiiiiiggggghhhhttt I'm totally going to believe the people who have lied about literally everything including things that would be more beneficial to tell the truth about as to whether or not oil is flowing out of a war zone.... that they created.

She said it’s not true and then went on to say it was true but maaaaay change. She is terrible.

3

u/Adventurous_Fix6838 11d ago

Outlets like Fox, and you could even group in the other mainstream outlets to a certain degree, but most notably Fox, push for war because their financial ties and advertisers are defense contractors; their jingoistic political base are taught that the military industrial complex is good and necessary to keep us safe; their stories can revolve around heroic acts of individuals, like a soldier that saved his unit, while ignoring other important stories that are uncomfortable to report; and their hosts and slogans and banners create an illusion of supreme patriotism. War is good for Fox.

3

u/PanteraOne 11d ago

Fox new has always been nothing but evil radical right-wing lies. They have done massive damage to the U.S, over the years because many Americans believe their endless lies. Rupert Murdoch belongs in prison.

3

u/CherryGarciaisKing 11d ago

Fucking love that he went on Fox. VOTE ABDUL MICHIGAN!

3

u/MooKids 11d ago

How cute that she uses The Wall Street Journal as a source.

WSJ is owned by News Corp, which owns Fox News.

3

u/Makerofthinks 11d ago

They can lie all they want but Americans know inflation is worse than before he came back into office and proceeded to break campaign promises one after the other. I've seen my fuel receipts. I've seen my Grocery receipts. I've seen my housing, electric and insurance costs increase...how about you?

3

u/JesusDeZombie 10d ago

Fox News just is the trump news network. They will never go against him, or whatever scheme he's got going on. You actually think this glamed up bimbo knows anything about the war?

3

u/CruyffCule 9d ago

This is a great example of US 'news', they never allow guests to actually finish or make a point but rather push their narrative. Once you stop the manipulation, the truth easily rises to the top like here

It paints US as evil which most Americans don't even want to address

3

u/Nofuckstogive77 8d ago

Abdul is a great speaker and he's going to win in Michigan for sure. I hope they all choke on it!
