It’s a shame, because I proudly fly 2 flags on either side of my garage, and I in no way support MAGA or Trump. I just recently had this same conversation with my 2 kids, that most people driving by would assume the opposite. It’s not going to stop me though. There was a time where that flag stood for something better, and I’m hoping we will get back to that at some point.

Edit: I didn’t realize that my post is that offensive, that people would feel the need to send me DM’s and spew a bunch of vile garbage. The irony being, that’s exactly what’s wrong with this country.

4

u/NorthChiller 4h ago

If you’re so inclined, you could fly pride flags below ol glory. That’d clear things right up for passersby

2

u/MichaelButWithAnF 2h ago edited 2h ago

Agreed. Fly the American Flag alongside a sign that says "Women's voices matter" or "Fight for our workers rights".

-1

u/The_Defining_Light 1h ago

Women's voices dont matter in america, because we cant identify what a woman is. We let men into that category, which takes away from their power. So sad.

0

u/Fit-Locksmith-4931 1h ago

It’s simple, a woman is someone with female reproductive organs who can produce an offspring. If someone wishes to call themselves one, so be it, it’s a free county. It’s really not that difficult to not subscribe to what you see blown out of proportion by a few bad apples. And both sides have them, let’s not sit here and pretend the right has 0 lunatics

0

u/The_Defining_Light 1h ago

I think thats a perfect definition. I dont care if someone wants to call themselves a women. Dont ask me to do the same however. I bet we can still be friends and get along just fine regardless. Many republicans feel the same way. I know lots that just dont care what you want. Its the last thing they think about. They care more about putting food on the table and keeping a roof over their families heads. Sad truth, left and right could get a long if we stopped listening to the media that is tearing us apart.

1

u/NorthChiller 53m ago

Whats your name? Ya know what? Doesn’t matter, I’m calling ya Shrimp Dick. Don’t ask me to use your preferred name cause I just don’t care what you want. I’m just trying to keep food on the table and a roof over my families head.

Don’t let the media divide us. Make the minimal effort to care about and respect your fellow citizens.

0

u/The_Defining_Light 59m ago

Most of the right only want: Truth, life, happiness, and the pursuit of wealth for our families, for all people.

If your truth is you want to be a women or a man, cool. Their truth is different. Both are okay.

1

u/Blue_Wave2026 3h ago

I fly might American flag near my campaign yard signs for Democrats only.

*youre

Don’t have to be a maga freak to be a loser who strangely obsesses over the sexual and gender preferences of other people.

Have the day you deserve 💋

0

u/Adventurous_Okra_344 3h ago

They won’t understand or believe it.

0

u/Reasonable_Tie_9975 3h ago

Being for neither side apparently makes you a conservative, according to this sub a few weeks back. The post was retweet of a woman saying anyone she dates who says they're non political is really just a closet conservative....which is complete bullshit, and ironically a stereotype

0

u/Fun-Manufacturer5876 2h ago

It's a "if you're not with us you're against us" mentality which alienates middle ground people and they wonder how Trump got elected twice. (As I typed "Trump" in this I got a pop up notification from reddit saying "we dont want a flame war" lmao)

0

u/Reasonable_Tie_9975 2h ago

Yup exactly this dude. I think both sides are ridiculous at this point. They're religions now and long past just political viewpoints. World gone mad it seems

0

u/X-CaliberRacing 2h ago

True story !!! The red vs blue turned into who can hate who the most.

0

u/ObjectCrafty6221 1h ago

My liberal friends are more judgmental and hateful than my conservative friends.

3

u/TheEldestNugget 4h ago

There was a time where that flag stood for something better

Well, there was a time that people didn't realize what the flag stood for. It's always been like this, just now the guns are pointed inside.

3

u/MisterPuppydog 4h ago

Exactly! That flag belongs to us and the people who founded this country would be pissed that we haven’t revolted and taken it back. There is a difference between nation and government. Nation is the people, and I love this nation.

1

u/uk123456789101112 1h ago

As a non American, you do realize HOW your nation was founded and what exactly changed during the course of your history, taking it back to when your flag was first made would not be a good thing by any measure!

-1

u/Splitter63 2h ago

By taking it back you mean back to what? Open borders?

-2

u/smallcheesecak3 26m ago

We tried to revolt and take it back but they called it an insurrection

3

u/Few-Improvement9978 1h ago

It’s the correct call.

Don’t let MAGAs keep the flag. They certainly don’t deserve it

4

u/valonnyc 5h ago edited 4h ago

Enough of us have to vote. And the boycott votes did a huge disservice to those who boycotted.

2

u/Keyan_Farlander7 2h ago

There was a time when people flew American flags and the MAGA cultists flew Confederate and Don't Tread on Me flags.

1

u/DazzlerPlus 2h ago

You do. Patriotism directly leads to these types of outcomes. Having symbolic reverence gives the government legitimacy beyond the value of it's actions. Being an American, Brazilian, Latvian etc means nothing. It's nothing more than being a Brewers fan.

1

u/Imaginary_Poetry_233 4m ago

I bet you like seeing Mexican flags here though. It's sad for any nation's flag to be used as a FU to another.

1

u/Massive_University66 7m ago

Honest question, but what has been taken away from you since orange man has taken office?

-1

u/cornbeeflt 5h ago

Thats because we're in a war of opinions from the radical leftist and the radical righties. I know we never really had common sense in our politics but man what a dream to have both of those groups be quiet so real work could get done.

11

u/CupKitchen9964 4h ago

Who are these “radical leftists” you just made up? Folks saying we should have universal healthcare like every other western nation?

-3

u/confidenceyo 4h ago

People who want to abolish capitalism and the right to voluntary cooperation, unless they deem it aligned with their prerogative. People who want to completely undo the fundamental compromise our country was built upon, the balance of the electoral college and our Senate. A dismantling of the police which they have now disguised as reform because it was so unpopular when they were screaming it during 2020. That’s the tip of the iceberg and already extremely consequential and radical. But hey, those are probably good things to you, comrade. I’m sure you had fun on the kirkaversary.

4

u/CupKitchen9964 4h ago

Wow you’re like totally delusional.

Tell me what it capitalist when the current regime took ownership interests of different AI companies and chip manufacturers? Or when the government promotes monopsony to help specific businesses and industries?

Real “invisible hand” shit, right? Clearly Smith was talking about “the invisible hand of the federal government,” right?

You’re such a try hard you don’t even see your orange god and made up rhetoric aren’t even capitalists, but mercantilists. Not that you know the difference.

0

u/ObjectCrafty6221 1h ago

We found you.

1

u/CupKitchen9964 55m ago

Uh oh I’m shaken in my boots.

2

u/Bizarrebazaars 4h ago

“ kirkaversary”…?? Are you fucking kidding me?? THAT is what you think of Dems/leftists/progressives?? My gosh you people are so out of touch.

-2

u/confidenceyo 4h ago

LOL U IGNORED EVERYTHING PRECEDING IT AS U DONT DISAGREE WITH THOSE MEASURES

And yes, “Kirkaversary” is rampant amongst the left on social media. As were the celebrations of his assassination, and the frustration over Crooks’ missed shot.

The point is that there are plenty of radical leftists, contrary to the previous posters’ assertion, and he is one of them.

2

u/-heatoflife- 3h ago

on social media

You know that's not real life, right? It might be your life, but that's not the real world, son.

u/Intlsurf 4h ago

Vs living in a totalitarian authoritarian regime like now. With fake Immigration in masks and no ability to work properly in their jobs. Vs everyone in the entire world losing respect and trust for USA. There you go. Enjoy. Also most mass murders per Capita. Proud yet ?

1

u/Intlsurf 4h ago

Meanwhile. It’s not capitalism at stake. It’s democracy and decency and being a caring human.

-2

u/confidenceyo 4h ago

Are you stuck in the Obama era of the “left” hahahaha keep up. It’s way past “vibes and don’t judge. We like brown ppl too.”

2

u/Intlsurf 4h ago

Wow. What a sad and seriously uneducated comment. Shared it with our people here in Europe and 3 USA military guys that are also laughing at your sad comment. Good luck. You’ll need it.

0

u/confidenceyo 4h ago

Where in Europe are you?

Which country do you claim higher moral ground from? Easy to poke holes when your dam is hidden.

1

u/Intlsurf 3h ago

I was asked to stop engaging with your delusional kind. Good luck tho. You’ll need it. And it’s not left or right or dem or Rep. Values. Values. And you’re lost

2

u/Intlsurf 4h ago

Meanwhile USA is blowing up in catastrophe. Happy yet? Lost all global and domestic trust and respect

1

u/-heatoflife- 3h ago

probably

I'm sure

Ah yes, half-assed presumptions of the sure of mind. Motherfucker's waxing pseudo-philosophical, advocating for the Electoral College - despite the nation's population and density having exploded since its inception and rendering it obsolete.

They're not sending their brightest, folks.

1

u/confidenceyo 3h ago

Probably and I’m sure were presumptions about the beliefs of the poster I was speaking to, not about the factual positions of the left.

Do you understand how the EU works? It’s not a simple population vote, it requires a majority of countries, too. Much like our electoral college or senate. Amazing. I’m sure you’ll go campaigning against the EU’s structure now.

Our population increasing in no way has made it obsolete.

We’re a uniting of states and were only formed upon that compromise. To undo it would be betraying our States.

1

u/-heatoflife- 3h ago edited 3h ago

Betraying our States? Like witholding aid and funds on political bases?

...are you aware that the EU Parliament elects legislators, not the 'President of the EU'? Are you aware there's no 'winner-take-all' mechanism as with our Electoral College? Kind of substantial functional differences, no?

1

u/confidenceyo 3h ago

It’s really not much different from our House and Senate. And it’s principally the exact same.

Yes, removing their promised representative power would be an absolute betrayal and frankly cause for dissolution.

1

u/-heatoflife- 3h ago

really not much different from our House and Senate

You mean our House and Senate that are elected by...direct popular vote since the 17th Amendment? So actually quite fuckin' different?

principally the exact same

Explain how, exactly? Respectfully, it seems you have no idea what you're talking about. :)

They're not sending their brightest, folks.

1

u/confidenceyo 2h ago

You may disagree on the comparison to the EU’s system that is not direct popular vote either. Thats your own prerogative. I have already explained the what is principally consistent. Regardless, their system is tangential to the merits of our own electoral college and senate, which you first attacked and now refuse to engage with.

You have claimed strangely that the population explosion entirely obsoleted the Electoral College. You’ve yet to remotely explain how that follows. I’ve explained my claims, including that about the EU having a similar philosophy, even if you disagree because of detail differences.

Again, removing the Senate and Electoral College or reducing their power to direct population would be a betrayal of the compromise that formed our nation and made smaller states willing participants.

Well republican capitalism has gotten the country $40,000,000,000,000.00 in debt and we still don’t have healthcare. Doesn’t sound like a first world country to me. And what the hell is a kirkaversary?

-1

u/MikeLikesIkeRS 4h ago

There's no way you're not a bot or are arguing in good faith.

2

u/CupKitchen9964 4h ago

No, maybe you just listen to too much Fox News. Please explain in detail what you are calling “radical leftists.”

Most I see is folks pushing for universal healthcare and to tax the rich, at a time when we have high inflation and literally the lowest taxes in history since implementing an income tax. But please elucidate how these things are “radical.”

Btw, income taxes are a means to take excess money out of the system. You know, lower inflation. Because that’s what inflation is- more money going after the same amount of goods.

-1

u/MikeLikesIkeRS 4h ago

I don't watch Fox News.

Radical lefties are best described as people who cry and moan on Reddit that the sky is falling over every single mundane thing. Anybody who questions what they say are nazi fascists, or a bigot, or transphobic, or so on. They often engage in weak arguments, try to moral highground everybody they meet, are mostly illogical/irrational, and frankly, annoying as fuck. They are often found perpetually offended, eager to belittle someone than to understand and actually have a conversation with someone who has different views, and are more often than not unaccepting of facts that don't align with whatever narrative they are trying to push.

You can see these individuals anywhere you go on the internet, yet here you are (wrongfully) making the claim that "They don't exist!" When they absolutely do. If you don't think they exist, then you are probably a radical lefty yourself.

-1

u/FreshFishBro 4h ago edited 4h ago

Listen kid, it hasn’t always been just the republicans who’ve fucked things up. We’ve had periods where the dems have controlled congress and the presidency and by no means was it a utopia on earth. They were slow and corrupt. Which I’ll take over fast and turbo corrupt magas but we’ve also had good republicans presidents before. The problem TODAY is that the media is weaponized against us by both sides leading to radical extreme ideas. It’s not “universal healthcare” vs “modern day slavery” or “pro life” vs “pro choice”. These are just 2 opinions within a multitude of opinions and options, we’re just forced to pick 1 “all-in” side vs another. Same with any issue, the issues are what matter, not what side you agree with more. Ideologies are not all encompassing but instead tools to be applied as needed. Otherwise it’s just dogma.

Balance is always the key, checks and balances, separation of power, and public trials by jury are all products of this thinking. You cannot consolidate power in any central authority without repercussions. The vast majority of Americans are in fact moderates, we’re just not represented at all so we’re forced to divide on party lines typically for social reasons. It’s the same reason Hilary didn’t win, because dems were divided between her and Sanders who combined had the majority vote but individually did not, allowing the republican candidate who had consolidated his entire party to win.

Do I want the dems to win, yes, do I want a balanced congress that focuses on solutions and not re-elections, also yes. We need to cut down on lobbying, put limits on campaign spending, get rid of super pacs, make all political donations public, crack down on insider trading. For the most part, none of this existed before the 1980s.

Also, income tax does not “take money out of the system.”. The government spends that money on goods, services, salaries, etc, so it’s simply redistributed back into the economy. The point of income tax is to fund local services, schools, and other government activities. It has no effect on inflation, all currencies inflate as long as we have the ability to make more money. Modern currencies rarely deflate any significant amount, the best you can hope for is a very slow and stable rate of inflation which is what the fed tries to do. Deflation sounds great but it’s not, it means money is harder to acquire, which typically impacts those with little money/assets much more severely.

1

u/CupKitchen9964 4h ago

You’re going off on a bunch of bullshit I’m not reading all of that. Good job or sorry to hear that.

Btw ain’t no kid just not an NPC repeating everything Orange god tells me. First election I voted in was probably before you were in grade school, so just be quiet. 2004 in fact.

0

u/FreshFishBro 4h ago

I didn’t write it for you, I wrote it for anyone who might be inclined to agree with you. I don’t care how old you are but it doesn’t seem like you’re a well functioning adult considering you don’t have the attention span to read 4 paragraphs.

1

u/CupKitchen9964 4h ago

No, I read plenty. I don’t read bloviating nonsense from strangers on the Internet.

Kid

1

u/CupKitchen9964 3h ago

Also, I can’t believe anyone can look at the current state of affairs and say what we really need is more moderate centrism. Furthermore, I’ve been listening to you. People bloviating about how everything that helps us is socialism my entire life and that’s why we can’t have it. Well, maybe it’s time we try something new then.

1

u/FreshFishBro 3h ago

I’m not opposed to more social policies. I think we should swing more left now. I dont watch fox or support maga. I actually hate MAGA. I voted for Kamala, begrudgingly, because she was absolutely a terrible candidate, same with Joe. I had no choice but to vote for him, great guy, loved him when Obama was in power but way too passed his prime. It was honestly disgraceful what they put him through.

All I’m saying is balance is key, capitalism AND social policies. Private and public sector. Left and right policies, or somewhere in the middle.

You’re mad at the moderates because you see them as too republican, the republicans see us as too democrat. When we’re actually just normal people applying critical thinking, not plugging in square pegs into round holes constantly.

1

u/CupKitchen9964 3h ago

Also, the way governments work they aren’t waiting for your tax bill to come in to pay their services, they just make it as needed. So yes if you are even remotely aware of MMT or how governments operate, taxes only serve to decrease the overall supply of bills, which is a way to deal with inflation. Public admin and economics are kind of my field. A government budget is not the same as a household budget

1

u/FreshFishBro 2h ago edited 2h ago

MMT is a thing but it is not in practice today in any official way, at least not in the US. The way money is primarily created within the US is through the sell and purchase of debt. The Fed does inject money into the economy directly but it’s through the purchase of bonds and assets with the goal of creating more liquidity. The us borrows money and uses taxes to pay for its activities. Otherwise we wouldn’t be in a deficit, we’d just have higher spending.

Im an engineer who works for a capital lending company. I engineer the software systems that essentially enable this creation of money.

This is one of my complaints about too much right wing or left wing thinking, both sides seem to lead to autocratic authoritarianism. You’re telling me you want the GOVERNMENT the most corrupt entity, and least efficient to have MORE freedom to create money. Absolutely not, they can’t keep the balance straight as it is. Yet you want them to us taxes to as a balancing to their fiscal mistakes. Good luck with that, they’re too fiscally irresponsible already. We just spent hundreds of millions on a ballroom and the deficit is an all time high. This is why the FED should stay private.

I honestly think just letting ai run the government would be better

1

u/CupKitchen9964 2h ago

… lol wtf are you even talking about? Is your prime directive just to argue?

What do you think quantitative easing is? Or deficit spending? Or unemployment? Or the fact that the federal reserve purchases treasuries in the secondary market?

Dude you’re out of your element you immediately just disqualified anything you have to say about the economy with your very first statement.

I’m not interested in having conversations with someone who doesn’t even understand the basics. Really.

1

u/FreshFishBro 1h ago

I see deficit spending as a last recourse when they can’t balance the books, not a practice that should be formalized as the standard path and offset by taxes. Quantitative easing is exactly what I’m talking about when I say the fed buys bonds and other assets like loans.

You’re conflating MMT which is a theory that promotes offsetting creation of dollars with taxes as a first class principle with the practice of supplementing our spending with deficit dollars borrowed from “future prosperity” as a last recourse.

0

u/Intlsurf 4h ago

Glad it doesn’t stop you but be aware your kids and the entire world are right. We all assume the worst. Proud of you to still believe in what could be. We are saddened but have hope. Will take some time

0

u/voteforkamalaorelse 4h ago

No u dont no one on reddit does lmao

0

u/PharmyC 3h ago

Gonna be honest I find flags tacky but I don't associate them with maga. Trump flags and Confederate flags, sure. I mostly just think you're a boring suburbanite if you have one.

3

u/PaleChampion1634 2h ago

I find that sad that you think that way. I am happy/ proud/ to be an American. Over many years since the inception of America we have done many things that I am ashamed of. But by no means do I think showing your pride in what our flag represents, our constitution is never a bad thing.

3

u/Puzzleheaded_End2735 2h ago

Yeah I served almost 8 years in the USMC, 5 years of it overseas, I fly both flags proudly because I can.

1

u/nellyterb 2h ago

Thank you for your service and you and your brethren are why I fly an American flag, regardless of who the president is.

1

u/xVelunax 3h ago

The bulk of Americans are not outwardly prideful of anything. There is usually a much more closeted pride in other things. For homeowners, it's more about a cleanly appearance in the home and exterior. Well maintained grounds. Things of that nature. Displays of wealth generally from the whole 'american' dream. A great deal simply not caring at all to display anything really beyond just living their own life and not wanting to be disturbed for it.

Which is where the OP's post comes into play. With how quiet most people are about every feeling prideful to be an american, there are far more people who are taking it to an indoctrinated kind of extreme. A feeling of superiority over others to the point of outwardly boasting about american pride.

I feel like for a long time a big part of American politics was usually meant to be the whole "speak softly, but carry a big stick" and now much of the rhetoric has changed over a decade of existing leadership.

0

u/Jolly_Pumpkin_8209 2h ago

Polling and surveys would disagree with your opinion that the bulk of Americans are not outwardly prideful.

1

u/AffectionateJury3723 2h ago

My neighbor has one of those "In This House" yard signs, every banner for the left and Ukraine flags and is this most bigoted person I have ever met. When we had both a Bosnian and Indian family move into our subdivision, guess who complained the loudest and continually about all their HOA violations, too many cars, etc..... When she met my sister-in-law who was a University professor from Russia and has both family from Ukraine and Russia, she tried to lecture her on the political situation. There can be bigots on both sides.

1

u/Reasonable-Emu6159 3h ago

Tacky? The most beautiful flag in the world, tacky? Do you stand for the Pledge or Anthem?

1

u/EarPlayful3108 3h ago

I like the uk flag better.

1

u/Catch_Own 3h ago

Hopefully you live there .

1

u/Catch_Own 3h ago

I'm betting Not !

0

u/Ok_Afternoon_4877 2h ago

And you support the people who promote this anti American 🇺🇸 strategy? Ask yourself why and seek the truth even if you don’t like the answer.

0

u/Ceiling_IsThe_Roof 2h ago

Proudly fly 2 flags lol

Nationalism got y’all sick

1

u/Cherobis 2h ago

Nationalism sucks

Patriotism is awesome

0

u/The_Defining_Light 1h ago

I just said above too...lmao. left is evil.

1

u/Fit-Locksmith-4931 1h ago

This left vs right thing is exactly what they want. Our government is run by billionaires who have no interest in the common man. Instead of supporting their division, find a common ground. You’re serving no one’s interest but theirs with this talking point

0

u/smallcheesecak3 27m ago

So you love america but you hate it at the same time that makes no sense at all you dont like the make america great again slogan but you fly two flags on your garage so you do also walk up to a veteran and thank them for their service and then slap them in the face and spit on them i mean its the same thing right

1

u/EggyB0ff 20m ago

Check up with your doctor about a possible brain damage
