I remember visiting Washington DC in 1993 and visiting every single historical sight and important building and monument. I came away feeling proud of the United States and interested in history and politics. Now I feel like the whole thing is just a waste and we should call the whole thing a failure.
I mean to be fair it’s difficult to study an honest American history and feel a lot of pride, all of this is built on genocide and slavery and I feel a lot of our history lessons fail to own this with the gravity these atrocities command
Right. I get that. But going to Washington back then felt like, "yes, we're acknowledging the past, but we're all Americans and we can accept our history for what it is because we've learned from it and we're on a course to be better. " Now if feels like a speed run to see how many ways we can turn back the clock on any progress we've made in the past 50 years. I used to be somewhat proud and hopeful about the United States. Now I don't care because we're all doomed. There's no way to fix the damage that's been done in my lifetime. Our descendants will suffer because of decades of failed leadership.
slavery was normal all around the world at the time just because the usa is the only country who actually talks about our slavery and we dont ignore it like every other country doesnt mean we are the only ones who did it
