The droids also found use in less-savory parts of society, where they functioned as escorts. Some were even fitted with fully-articulated lekku, capitalizing on the popularity of Twi'lek females.https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/BD-3000_luxury_droid/Legends
I don't think that's why she's mad. It's that the decoy uses her real name. So her cover might be gone if they had known her name. Luckily either the Jedi didn't know or they didn't care.
Only got himself killed on Naboo because he knew Obi was about to put him into rehab again which in itself was another gamble that he was correct about the whole force ghost thing
In the movie, the handmaiden repeatedly identifies herself as Padme. It's not the Queen's known name. How that can be when she was literally elected, I have no idea. Maybe native Nabooians know what's up. But in the movie, the Queen is Amidala, Padme is the handmaid.
According to Wookiepedia, she was born Padme Naberrie and campaigned as Amidala (mononym). So most would not know that Padme and Amidala are the same person.
This was so that when Padme requests going down to the surface, they buy the idea of “The Queen requests that you take one of her handmaiden’s with her.” And the Jedi just see her as “the Handmaiden who cleaned the droid” so that no suspicion is drawn.
My headcannon for this scene is they did it for the ruse. Padmé and the handmaidens secretly communicated with each other with subtle facial expressions. By doing this Padmé was now standing with R2, behind the Jedi so the decoy could see her face. If she kept standing behind her the decoy would be going through the conversation with no knowledge of what Padmé wanted.
I believe the handmaidens and decoys are also basically supposed to succeed one another. That is to say, Padme is the current queen, but if she were to die, she would be succeeded by one of the others as they are all trained in matters of the state. They act as doubles for the queen in both ways.
Never actually noticed that. "Padme, clean up this droid." Well cgts, you missed the point of being a decoy. You're supposed to be Padme you dumb fuck!
I mean in fairness they couldn't rule out the possibility that someone in the crew could be a spy for the Federation. It's entirety possible that most of the crew weren't aware of the decoy either.
Padme Naberrie is the "handmaiden", "Amidala" is the queen. In TPM, she introduces her handmaiden as Padme. After revealing her true identity in the movie, then it doesn't matter and she just goes by her real first name.
Wait a minute, if she called Padme by her name, then isn't that outing her? Do people not know the Queens name? And if it's fine because there's no one around to worry about then why still keep up the ruse?
Generally no. Naboo tradition is that political candidates running for the monarchy adopt a "public name" for the duration of their campaign. If they're elected then the name becomes their regal name. Padmé chose Amidala as her political name and everyone knew her as Queen Amidala. Her real name is something only friends and family would know.
A lot of royalty don’t use their names and a lot of people name their kid after royalty. We don’t know if Padme was a common name or not. Also, Episode 1 made it look like the monarchy is hereditary considering the Queen is 16 but in Episode 2 the retcon it to be either a direct democracy or an elected monarchy.
Yeah that was dumb. But I guess she went by her title as 'the Queen" or something and only started using the name Padme after she revealed healed. Idk. Maybe the Queen had a decoy name also
One thing I never understood was why her disguise was her real name? Like did she think the space wizards or just some random guy on the street wouldn’t know what the elected queens first name was.
I think she gave Padme the opportunity to connect with the Jedi and see what they have to say when "the Queen" is not in the room. There is no point in one of the other decoys talking to them.
