WTF

121

u/memerminecraft 10h ago

And that wedding ring went on to ensure the destruction of its former wearer

123

u/Acopo 10h ago

A wedding ring that kills you if you break your vows is pretty fucking metal.

Would make for a good horror film.

u/drifters74 3h ago

That would make a good film

u/Hinaloth 8h ago

And for once, no need to be thrown in a volcano!

u/memerminecraft 6h ago

No, the wearer already was.

Something something poetry and rhyming

u/RestlessMeatball 12h ago

And after that, R2 never stayed with the ship again

It is scary because it is true

Wow. WOW. I actually never noticed that. People give Lucas a lot of crap (sometimes rightfully so), but the man absolutely knew what he was doing when it came to allegory and symbolism.

120

u/PromiscuousScoliosis Battle Droid 10h ago

I would be shocked if that was intentional lol

u/DangerousEye1235 10h ago

I disagree. Star Wars is steeped in allegory. George Lucas is a well-read man, with great literary awareness. His execution may fall short sometimes, but he understands symbolism and literary devices.

What's that quote of his? "It's like poetry, it rhymes"?

9

u/andrewthemexican 3h ago

I mean the exchanging of droids was definitely intentional symbolism, not too far to suggest similar abandonment of the relationship by leaving R2 behind.

Similar vein that's connected with the twins have the droid from the parent they're most similar to.

Well this is an amazing repost because I’d never seen this before and now my mind has been blown.

15

u/fem_turtleboy A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one 10h ago

Doesn't Padmé also leave C-3PO behind?

8

u/SpadinaBus77B 5h ago

from a certain point of view

9

u/WOLKsite 9h ago

In death, yes?

2

u/Azmep_ 5h ago

C3PO is the one who brought Padme into her ship while Obi-Wan and Anakin were fighting.

u/TheRealcebuckets 11h ago

George: Yeah. Sure. That was exactly what I was going for. shrugs

George Lucas
Born to be a Holywood Golden Age B movie tycoon
Forced to be SciFi Orson Wells

Wanted to make Saturday morning tv shows for kids. Ended up having to explain random sci-fi details to adult nerds.

5

u/Movableacorn 9h ago

LMAO, that like half of star wars theories i swear.

4

u/TheRealcebuckets 9h ago

I do love the one about the choker Padme wears during the fireplace scene…😜

3

u/mastesargent 7h ago

Or the whole “Vader is the Dutch word for father” thing. It’s just invader with the first two letters cut off, and it coincidentally would up being retroactive foreshadowing.

2

u/SemajLu_The_crusader 9h ago

what

5

u/TheRealcebuckets 8h ago

The choker she wears is literally “choking her” due to her affections for Anakin and foreshadows that that same love will also literally choke her.

SW fans love to play English teacher as opposed to simple George thought the outfit was hot.

u/ThesaurusRex84 10h ago

What I'm hearing is that C-3PO and R2-D2 are married

6

u/Necessary_DaNoodle 9h ago

As if he brought R2 everywhere with him even while alone with Padme lol

4

u/Nullified38 5h ago

I think that may be because he lost all his limbs, was horribly burned and disfigured, and hardly conscious when he left Mustafar…

3

u/Kobymaru376 8h ago

I proclaim this head Canon

3

u/Wolfie_wolf81 I am the Senate 4h ago

There were some twilek baddies on Mustafar ?

2

u/Doubleb409 4h ago

4

u/Shadalow Emperor Palpatine 8h ago

Lul is this fanbase powered by head canon?

5

u/Mister_E69 2h ago

Wouldn't be that far off from official media

2

u/PuzzleheadedScale214 5h ago

Mostly at this point

After all what use does a jedi have for a protocol droid?
