Feature Request Proton offline calendar 📆

I wanted to post this on r/protoncalendar , but it seems there is barrier to post + the last posts are like 5 years ago 😂

I'm not really a calendar person, so I tend to not use the app on the phone that often. I have removed the standard calendar and replaced with Proton.

Sometimes I need to check the date and when I open the calendar I need to login on everytime single time, which is process that takes time and not great when you have conversation with someone.

So I wanted to request an offline mode, not needing to login and something that be used locally, maybe later synced.

Yeah could just rid of Proton calendar, and find something that works locally..

The main things we are working toward are:

Better performance and offline support, so that actions like creating or editing events can work even without connectivity.

I think it's because I don't use it for awhile it will log you out. Proton drive does that too on my tablet if I don't use it for awhile. So it requires me to start over

You do know that in android it clears out data on inactive apps BUT you can configure each app on your phone to NOT do this after a period of time, proton or not, right?

That's permissions you are thinking of

yes and no. You go to the app info and permissions page to uncheck the manage app if unused, yes, but if this is a problem of idle usage losing your app configuration that would be how you resolve it.

If that's not disabled on less frequently used apps you don't want to lose data/credentials/configuration on it was something to check.

It's been years and this feature is still not in Proton? I moved away from Proton Calendar exactly because it does not support offline use.

I moved away from proton full stop. Love the mission but they tend to make new products over perfect their current ones.

This will probs get downvoted to hell but their software sucks. How the fuck is there not an offline calendar. Barely got offline emails not so long ago

What did you switch to for email?

My own 🤣 worked surprisingly well so far

ProtonVPN -> Mullvad
Calendar -> Apple Calendar (always has been tried proton calendar and wanted to cry)
Proton Drive -> Used for archives but now just my server

Only thing I use still is Proton Pass. It’s a shame because as I said I loved the mission and wanted to support it. Proton Unlimited is genuinely a great deal too. Shame they just can’t focus on the basics.

How does Mullvad fare for errr downloading Linux ISOs? It doesn't do port forwarding anymore, does it?

I went with AliasVault after trying Proton Pass, Vaultwarden, Bitwarden and Keeper.

Sadly not. But I didn’t really use that anyway. I just wanted to stick a reliable VPN onto my gateway so my home traffic is encrypted. Proton VPN kept disconnecting every other week making me have to get a new config file.

I can live with Proton Pass as I rarely have to go in the app, and I quite like SimpleLogin so

Do you know a good one for Android?

I now use Fossify Calendar, synced using DAVx5 to my NextCloud server. Never looked back since.

Wait till you find out that you still can‘t search a specific date/appointment in the calendar app.

„I know I have a dentist appointment in the next six months. Let me quickly go through all my appointments“… User experience at its best.
