⚽️🏀🏈Sports Freakout⚾️🎾🥊 England's team booked 15 different hotels, but Mexico fans still found out where they were staying and blasted loud noises, trying to keep them up all night before the game.

u/licecrispies snap crackle & pop Jul 05 '26
If it's a decent hotel, they probably didn't hear a thing. I stayed in a hotel while there were thousands of people partying right out front with fireworks and mobile DJs. I slept right through it and didn't find out until I saw the mess they left in the morning.
196
u/SanibelMan Jul 05 '26
I wonder if they should have booked the NH Collection T2 Airport hotel instead? Most airport hotels are built with soundproof windows, since the guests expect to be able to sleep through planes landing and taking off.
70
u/Nandor1262 Jul 05 '26
The BBC reported they all had loop ear plugs and white noise machines in their rooms.
52
u/zebra1923 Jul 05 '26
Very hotel specific. I stayed in a ‘luxury’ hotel this weekend and there was lots of noise from local bars and passing trains.
33
u/Arkaines-Valor Jul 05 '26
I've stayed in plenty of 5-star hotels and no matter how nice it is, I've always heard noise from outside and from dickheads who feel the need to shout to each other when walking down the corridor.

the fact this got downvoted to oblivion shows how sensitive people are these days lmao

I downvoted it because it's such a lame overused and unfunny stereotype. Get a new joke
22

Literally been around since the 1800's I swear. Joke is almost as old as the country making it
-1
u/RugbyValkyrie Jul 05 '26
On the contrary, English food was great in the 1800's. It was Victorian times when English food became a bit shit generally. But the classics, when done well, are still fantastic.
Edit and no baked beans anywhere.
1
u/ChanceSociety311 Jul 06 '26
On the contrary it was not. Before canning and refrigeration food standards were worse. Don't be a moron about it I beg.

Wouldn't winning because the other team is sleep deprived be sort of hollow?
122
u/nzerinto Jul 05 '26
You would think so. Unfortunately there are a lot of people with a “win at all costs” mentality.
A couple of days before the 1995 rugby World Cup final between South Africa and New Zealand (played in South Africa), out of the 35 person touring party, 27 of the New Zealanders got food poisoning.
Obviously it could’ve simply been a case of poor food prep, but it could’ve equally been sabotage.
South Africa went on to win.
56
u/Dependent_One6034 Jul 05 '26
And people wonder why teams bring their own food abroad with them.
28
u/nzerinto Jul 05 '26
These days, absolutely. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of teams (regardless of sport) adopted a lot of changes as a result of hearing about that case. In those days it was a bit trickier - it was barely a professional sport (at least in NZ). The bank teller at my local bank was one of the players, for example.....lol
1
u/AndoMacster Jul 06 '26
Wow I didn't know this, it wasn't part of the "Invictus" movie
1
u/nzerinto Jul 06 '26
I think it was mentioned in the movie, but it was very much a "in passing" comment between characters. I get it - it would've ruined the storyline of the movie, but yeah.....
1
u/Lenrivk Jul 05 '26
For that one, it was also deemed a necessary victory by the political leaders of South Africa to avoid a civil war so it wasn't just fanatism
12
u/freudian_nipple_slip Jul 05 '26
Argentina supposedly spiked a Brazilian player's water bottle with a tranquilizer at the 1990 World Cup.

Not really, the unabashed nationalism is the main appeal of the world cup not the football. If anything the fans would enjoy it more because it would've felt like they helped.
26
349
u/EviLSpartan369 Jul 05 '26
Why isn't this illegal already? This is low key cheating for your team.
211
u/crazycroat16 Jul 05 '26
I'm sure what they're doing is illegal already, but what are laws if they aren't enforced? Mexican police probably told people where the team was actually staying
162
u/ljfrench Jul 05 '26
Yeah I feel like people may not understand Mexico. I used to work for a company that regularly sent technicians to Mexico. Someone would break into their hotel room and steal all of the equipment, we would report it to the police, and the police would magically recover all of the lost equipment, but require a $300 payment to get it back.
→ More replies (1)50
u/crazycroat16 Jul 05 '26
Lmao, love anybody who downvotes this as if this isn't a common occurrence
7
u/Fluid-Significance-1 Jul 05 '26
it was enforced, there were only 30 people there and they were sent away from the hotel after a short amount of time
29
u/EviLSpartan369 Jul 05 '26
If they can't implement laws, then at least FIFA should step in and take action against the team or take away points if the fans behave such way.
24
33
u/doomladen Jul 05 '26
BRB, just going to buy a Mexico shirt and shoot fireworks at my own England team so that my opponents get points deducted.
5
u/Tyranicross Jul 05 '26
A team isn't responsible for their fans
32
u/DataM1ner Jul 05 '26
Yeah they are FIFA, UEFA etc have rules for fan behavoiur. They have the power to order the game behind closed doors, ban fans of a certain team from attending, issue fines, deselect/ban a stadium from hosting, or forfiet the game if fans misbehave.
Hell they can even ban all teams from a country for multiple years because of the actions of fans from 1 team.
16
u/UnRayoDeSol Jul 05 '26
Penalise the team fans will stop.
9
u/WerdaVisla Jul 06 '26
Penalize the team, the other team's fans will start pretending to be their fans doing it to get them penalized. Football fans have neither shame nor a sense of honor.

So the Mexican team should be punished. This behaviour is ridiculous. If the country can’t ensure a fair match then they get disqualified.
0
u/crazycroat16 Jul 05 '26
So what if I dress in Mexican uniform and pull the hotel fire alarm... Should Mexico be punished?
2
u/Wilfy50 Jul 05 '26
Hardly the same is it. If you’ve got a band playing and fireworks going off, in full public view, that let’s face it everybody knew was going to happen, yeah they should be punished. Organised cheating.

As an English football fan I can honestly say this incredibly normal. It happens all over Europe including the premier league.
4
u/iNfAMOUS70702 Jul 06 '26
I’m sure the England players will take this over the alleged cartel’s threatening the families of the teams instead
6
u/Bookups Jul 05 '26
It’s hilarious to think that Mexico is a country of laws. It is a borderline failed state.
5
2
u/cyamin Jul 05 '26
They can easily make room sound proof, and noise cancellation headphones to get a good sleep. Those Mexicans just need a reason to party all night.

I mean it's not really cheating but even if it were, why would that be illegal? The government should make cheating in a game illegal? Lmao it's not their job to police something like that.
Like, you could argue that it's creating a public disturbance or something and yeah sure that's a fair thing to argue the legality of.
But it's not illegal to cheat in a game lol. Enforcing that would be up to the governing body of the sport, not to the actual government.

It's a game. I appreciate when a person, team, or fan is a good sport, plays with honor, and either wins gracefully or loses gracefully.
Winning at all costs is a mental illness.

Pretty shitty behaviour to be honest. If that’s what you have to resort to so your team will win then they don’t deserve to win.
Also if that’s acceptable behaviour for you, then you might be a shitty person.

Chances are, they’re all sleeping peacefully, if they really are there to begin with.

Most quality hotels have good sound proofing. Think about all the airport hotels. If you could actually hear the noise, no one would ever get any sleep when staying at those locations (I travel often, I’ve never had a noise issue with any of these).

It's a thing around the globe, but it's a constant in America. The thing is, it's despicable either way and there's no point in saying who did it first or before. Because with that reasoning, another group will do the same shit, and justify themselves because someone's else did it.

You can book as many hotels as you want but as soon as a Mexican porter sees Harry Kane and the gang walking in he’s going to text his mates
