New Ally User Megathread: Post all "What Ally should I get" "What Mods to Install" "What OS to Use" here

The moderators of this sub previously relaxed the "Stay Relevant" rules of this sub for users asking "What handheld should I get," "Just got my handheld what should I do," "What mods are available," etc.

We've let this go on for a while, but the sub is getting overrun with the same posts every day, and user complaints both on the sub and in modmail have reached a tipping point.

As a result, we are resuming the moderation of the "Stay Relevant" rules and asking users with those types of questions to post in this megathread for answers.

Any posts made outside of this megathread that violates the rule will be removed.

Hi, I am looking to get a handheld gaming PC for the first time and I am curious what you guys think will be the best bang for my buck to start with. Thank you in advance for your help!

Basically I want to play games like EAFC and CFB 27 with the ability to mod them… Change logos or uniforms, edit leagues, edit recruits, etc. I’d also like to be able to install clone hero and play using a guitar hero controller and an external monitor while docked. Racing games like Le Mans Ultimate with my wheel and pedals would be nice but not necessary.

The Ally X was suggested to me in r/handhelds, and I understand better hardware means better performance, I’m just curious if anybody has experience with playing games like these and if they would play well on the budget model or if going all in on the $1000 model is necessary.

Great changes to this subreddit imo. One other thing I'd add is "What dock/power bank do I use?", or "does this work as a desktop PC?" or "Is this good for schoolwork?" Those are way too common.

Those are common but probably too many more types of posts to keep an eye on. Instead, could we put somewhere in title case "NEW USUERS: USE THE SEARCH BAR BEFORE ASKING".

Hi, I'll receive my ROG xbox ally tomorrow and I check on ROG ally life few games settings but there's no mention about the non X version on the game settings.

Or am I missing something ?

Except a power supply and a case, what did you bought with your Ally ?

Just picked up a Xbox Ally X and I’m looking to debloat it (remove telemetry, useless apps, etc). I’m assuming since it’s just win 11 device I can follow all the guides for the OG Ally?

For the dock, is the Jsaux one recommended or does any dock works?

Any docking station you can get from best buy “should” work. For all intents and purposes, you just need something that supplies power to a station that then provides power to the ally

is ally x worth it over z1e for 200 usd difference? i will buy used from an electronics store

the base Xbox Ally will play those games but SF6 you may need to lower settings. It won't be terrible in your use case but don't expect high performance on any AAA games.

It plays 1080p at 60fps on high on the Z1E.... you may need to play at medium settings but should have no issues.

Just got a USB C dock to stream games using moonlight from my PC and I’m confused about battery. I changed the settings to allow 80% charge only and now I’m thinking if there is something else that I need to change to keep battery healthy for a long time.

Should i unplug when not using the device?

Is there anyone who is plying Road to Vostok on Rog xbox Ally x? Could you please explain how to adjust all the settings as I been trying but can't get the controller to work. Thanks in advance ☺️ completely new to the controller and the game

The Ally is an extremely buggy inconsistent piece of hardware honestly wish i never got one
