Housing Can realtors PLEASE put floor plans in their listings?

Home buying in this market is frustrating enough, but when you’re disabled it’s that much worse. Layout is vitally important, and not just for “likes.” It’s an accessibility issue. And while 3D walkthroughs are great, when you’re poring through 100’s of listings trying to find a house with at least 2 bedrooms on the first floor, spending 10 minutes clicking through a walkthrough (or having to look at pictures and make a mental walkthrough because there is nothing about this anywhere) just to find out, when a quick glance at a floor plan could rule a house out as completely inaccessible.

Out-n-About Over 40 people shared their experiences with GalaxyCon. Here’s what they said.

I’ve been sitting on this for over a year, and I think it’s finally time to share these responses. I didn’t publish them sooner because, admittedly, I was scared. My phone number was leaked, I received a huge amount of harassment and threats, including death threats, and I wasn’t comfortable putting myself back into that situation. But it’s time to speak up.

During GalaxyCon Raleigh 2025, a bunch of vendors and I were placed across the street with no proper signage for $1,400 per table. After seeing vendors lose a lot of money and struggle, I decided to create an anonymous feedback form. I received 48 responses, including people from multiple GalaxyCon locations, not just Raleigh.

I’m reintroducing the feedback form as well, and I encourage you to share your own experiences from this year. I’ll continue updating the responses as more submissions come in.

With GalaxyCon now expanding into the fairgrounds and the backlash surrounding that decision, I feel like now is the right time to put these responses out there.

I just think people deserve to see what vendors and attendees actually reported.

Weather The worst part about global warming…

It’s much hotter much later in the year now, so all those nasty palmetto bugs that go away once it cools down are still everywhere. I live in the woods so they just live in my backyard and love to crawl in, no matter how clean everything is.

Usually they disappear around this time of year but I’m seeing more of those fuckers than ever. Yuck. I fucking hate cockroaches man

Politics Referenda Questions for Upcoming Election

Hey all. So I am reaching out to get more info on the upcoming referenda voting. Yes, I can do my own research, but sometimes tend to miss some important details and have heard that some of the wording may be misleading. I plan on doing early voting as well to hopefully avoid any election day issues.

Would love to hear from local voices that are aware of the topics. Was hoping to get advice and maybe someone to break down each topic we are voting for. I'm sure I'm not the only one that may not fully understand it and would love to know what I'm actually voting for.

I plan to vote for what's best for all the people of Raleigh and not to benefit corporations or huge businesses trying to get more money or cause harm if that will change anyone's response to this post.

Housing Do not rent from The Platform Apartments

TL;DR - high rent, poor construction, the fire alarm system throws enough false positives (last winter went off 6 consecutive times, today at 5AM for a false alarm, and quite a few instances more than it should be during a year), the parking garage sucks (if you’re outside the gate even as a resident for 15 minutes, you get fined due to them selling it to Power Parking), pool sis poorly situated and only gets 2 or so hours of sun in the summer, the deck and pool are also tiny, you’re really screwed if you have a heavy stepper living above you, and Kane sucks as an entity.

Staff is top notch though

Out-n-About Hearing booms at 9:30 pm

It’s that time of year! 🍂

The booms you hear around 9:30 p.m. are fireworks at the fair. Yes, you can hear them all the way up to North Raleigh and Wake Forest!

And that big, colorful spider making webs outside your house? It’s an orb weaver. A little startling, but very common.

Anyone else have a considerate Raleigh fall PSA to share?

Question/Recommendation Six Forks Square~ health department buildings

Okay so for the longest time, my boyfriend and I have been joking/speculating about what goes on at the health department buildings off six forks.

There's always those blue flashing lights and they're always empty. Are they shut down? Does anything go on there, like clinics or medical popups etc?

I can't ever find anything on Google and I am just genuinely curious as to what theyre used for 😭. Please let me know if y'all have any ideas.

Question/Recommendation Can Anyone Recommend a Good Dermatologist?

Hey all, can anyone recommend a good dermatologist in the Raleigh/Durham area, preferably in Cary/Apex?

Reason: I’ve probably got what I’m self-diagnosing as Inverse Psoriasis, and would love to find someone who has familiarity with that. Not that I expect some magic treatment but I’d like someone who’s “seen it all,” etc.

(What’s frustrated me in the past from dermatologists is a weird tendency to just call something “eczema,” prescribe a steroid cream and send you on your way lol — which again, maybe the treatment ends up being the same but dermatology can feel like a “mill” without a lot of curiosity or differential diagnosis.)

Sorry for the rant!

Any recommendations, good experiences with someone locally? And (inverse) psoriasis sufferers in particular, I’d love to hear from you! Thank you so much everyone!

Question/Recommendation Raleigh / Cary for one night?

I’ll be in Cary this week for an event and have one night - tomorrow, Sunday Oct 18th - to figure out what to do with myself. I get in around 2pm, staying in Cary but looking for one fun thing to do around 3pm-7pm and a good solo dinner spot. I may do M Sushi for omakase? Maybe a cool museum or maybe hit a great shop? Just something fun to kill a few hours, I know it’s a Sunday night so not the most options. I’d love any recommendations!

Local News For our Public Schools vote AGAINST all 3 amendments

TL;DR - North Carolina is already LAST in the country for public ed funding effort - this is just going to cause further harm to the 1.5MILLION kids in public schools in NC!!

Income tax cap: Lowers the existing cap from 7 to 3.5 percent
It is not a tax cut. It applies to both the corporate and personal rate. Both rates are already scheduled to be below 3.5 percent next year.

The NC General Assembly has been cutting income taxes for 13 years. This has disproportionately benefitted large corporations and those with high incomes.

State revenue is falling as our population and costs grow. This is unsustainable and has led to underfunding of services and programs, and local governments paying for what are supposed to be state costs.

Income tax cuts lead to increases in fees and sales taxes, and cuts to services.

The income tax amendment would lock us into this situation effectively permanently.

NC has never had a rate this low, and it will be locked into the constitution. This leaves the state unprepared for economic downturns and unforeseen circumstances like natural disasters.

Property Tax Levy Limit: Caps what local governments can collect, NOT your bill
It is not a cap on an individual’s property tax bill. It is a cap on the total revenue a local government can collect in property taxes.

State lawmakers already have the power to set a levy limit. Don’t need a constitutional amendment.

Increasingly, local governments have been taking on costs that are supposed to be covered by the state and/or federal government. This amendment is likely to lead to service cuts as local governments struggle with state and local revenue constraints.

It does not address housing unaffordability and would disproportionately benefit large corporate landowners like tech companies and corporate landlords.

What the limit would be and how it would be derived is not public.

Before voting, consider the impact these amendments will have on your community:
Who would benefit from these changes and who would be negatively impacted?

What would these amendments mean for the funding of quality of life services my family and community rely on, like emergency services, community centers, libraries, public schools, water and sanitation…?

How would these revenue constraints impact the ability of the state and local governments to provide services for a growing or aging population and respond to natural disasters or other unforeseen circumstances in the future, especially as costs rise?

What are specific projects prioritized by our community that are most at risk for delay or cancellation if state funding is uncertain and local government cannot collect sufficient revenue from property taxes to supplement decreases in state investment?

How have state and federal funding levels changed over the last 5-10 years? What state funding responsibilities has my local government taken on over that same period?

What specific funding shortfalls are we experiencing now,

including staffing shortages, school closures, or services interruptions?
What are the other methods of generating revenue if income tax and property tax revenue is constrained? Will our locality be forced to rely more on unpopular fees?
