I think it's more because Subaru has a tendency to roll nat 20's on deception and persuasion. Dude could literally sell snow to an eskimo, and the Eskimo would THANK him for the buisness.

Meanwhile, people are more likely to call out (or pretend not to notice) Rudius's more fanciful quirks. Rudius is clearly not running a charisma build.

Tbf some of these checks he got to roll after a couple of tries if he himself wants something like in Arc 3.

Of course when he wants to do something for someone else he is just that guy lol.

Personally speaking, I thought Subaru was a complete brat throughout Arc 3 (until Rem snaps him out of it). He even gets good advice from Anastasia, and his response? RAGE.

He went into the arc in a weird headspace of inferiority, insanity and pride, and it REALLY dumpstered his charisma after the first death.

Tbf she did take advantage of him moments prior for information. But yeah, he was in a terrible mindset.

Agreed. Subaru has definitely not rolled nat 20s throughout, it’s something he’s built up over time, often through trial and error, where the error often leads to a painful death.

Rudeus also learns, but doesn’t die nearly as much (only three times total technically), so he doesn’t have the same “rizz or die” stakes kind of experience

can't say i agree, having that information handed to him is rolling the nat20, even in his worst headspace ever he's still being given all the answers for his next few loops, everything is set up way too perfect for him and arc 3 is actually the biggest showcase of it

It's not that it set up perfectly for him, it's just bound to happen when he's around that many important people and have the looping ability. It's not some kind of just being convenience for the sake of plot.

they quite literally explain to him what he should have done different

About what? Literally only the basic rule of negotiating, he still had to plan it out himself.

Crushe and Anastasia both help Subaru to realise that the ends do not justify the means, and to get what he wants, he had to play the game (even going so far as to outright drop EXACTLY what each faction wants). He was just too stubborn to listen, because Subaru was too focused on impressing Emilia-tan and failed to navigate the relatively straightforward solution.

Their arguments isn't that the ends do not justify the means, I think this is a big problem with the Rezero community tight here, Subaru's flaws being the main focus of that arc tends to make the viewers think that everyone else is spouting some deep poetics rather than actually just being exploitive and selfish.

I'm not trying to argue about Subaru's morality through that arc but Subaru didn't got Crusch and Anastasia to help just because he became calm and figure out his actual resolve. He basically had to pay them something to help him save hundreds of civilians, The main reason why they didn't want to help him initially is because they'll get nothing in return for helping.

nat 20's on deception and persuasion

I mean, Subaru has ∞D20 so of course he'll get nat 20s at some point 🤣

The issue is he restarts 3-4 times till he finally gets the D20, and then just rolls D20s for the rest of the run, so he doesn't really use the infinite rolls that much.

And unless I'm missing something, by my understanding we do see all of his tries. Unlike other stories in which we just jump the 100s of times they reset to micromanage a favorable result

so he doesn't really use the infinite rolls that much

Greed IF would like to have a word with you.

For now, we see all of his tries. That won't be the case in the upcoming arcs, not in the way we're used to.

And i honestly LOVE IT!!

Both when he met Paul and when he had a fight with Scoldat he needed to hear those things, even if they were cruel and got him into a very bad place at the moment.

People really underestimate how much Rudy grows through the series.

its more that there are likely multiple routes where he atempted such until he got it that were cut from the anime for time and budgets sake
