2021 Megane Sport Tourer E-Tech PHEV – "Refuelling fault", fuel flap won't open in cold weather

Hi all, I'm hoping someone has run into this one.

Car: Renault Megane Sport Tourer E-Tech Plug-in Hybrid, 2021, approx. 147,000 km

Symptoms:

The dash shows "Refuelling fault – See owner's manual" (Finnish: "Tankkausvirhe") with the service wrench light on.

The fuel flap won't open, so I can't refuel.

Otherwise the car drives completely normally, in both EV and hybrid mode.

What I've found so far:

If I disconnect the 12V battery for a moment, the fault clears and the flap opens normally.

It only happens once the weather gets colder. There were no issues all summer.

As far as I know, the PHEV has a pressurised fuel tank that has to depressurise before the flap unlocks. My suspects are the flap lock actuator, the tank depressurisation valve or the pressure sensor sticking or misreading in the cold.

Questions:

Has anyone had the same fault, and what part actually fixed it?

Is there a known Renault technical bulletin or software update for this?

Is there a manual/emergency release for the fuel flap, so I don't have to disconnect the battery every time?

Should I go straight to a Renault dealer, or can a good independent garage diagnose this?

Thanks in advance for any tips! 🙏

Question Mégane Oil Consumption.

Post image
• Upvotes

Is this an abnormally low oil level for a car that had a full engine service only last March and has driven seven thousand miles since. Previously, the level has remained constant at four or five litres between services. Dipstick shows just above minimum at the moment. 2010 model with 140 thousand miles on the clock.

Question Looking for first car

From Renault i'm mainly interested with Laguna III and Megane III/Fluence, but i'd want to hear more about Laguna, since there's much more going on in civilian versions. I will be mainly driving in the city and sometimes on trips, so looking for petrol only. Which engines are reliable and what should i look for when buying one?

Engine breather hose location?

Hello everyone!

I bought a Renault Megane Grand Toure 2013 1.5K dCi a few months ago. I recently performed an oil service my self and noticed a thin black rubber hose coming from somewhere on the front of the engine, near the starter motor. It wraps underneath the engine and clips underneath to the engine/transmission.

The problem is the end connected to the engine, it is disconnected and I can’t find where to connect it. Previous owner switched starter motor and my idea is that it connects to the engine somewhere close to the starter motor or underneath, but can’t see where.

Do anyone of you have a clue what kind of hose it is where I should connect it?

Best regards!

Question Clio 2011 Dynamique Tomtom dci - Engine still running with ignition off.

Bit of strange one. Had the car about 3 years and its been doing this since I've had it, so its not a new problem.

Turn the ignition off and remove the key, engine is still running. If I put the car into reverse, just as the reversing lights would be coming on... it stops ( foot is still on the clutch so I havent stopped it by slamming it into reverse !) and thats the only way to stop it. I've tried various combinations of lights and pushing pedals but its only selecting reverse to the point the reversing light would be coming on that it stops .... of course the reversing light doesnt come on because the ignition is off.

Another possibly related ( possibly not ) problem, is almost to the exact minute of the car running. after 14 minutes a LOW BATTERY - STOP message comes up .... but the battery voltage is still showing 14.5 volts at the cigarette lighter and i've driven for 5 hours with no issues apart from that warning message staying on !. .. and its always 14 minutes every time !

I'd like to get it fixed but if its going to mean a new ecu or similar then I'll just put up with it !

Thanks for reading !

Question Manuel utilisateur - Scenic Etech & Captur hybrid

Je me trompe?

Question Clio MK4 side lights

Edit to add: it is 19 plate.

I feel like I'm going a little insane.

My side lights don't come on when turning the stalk selector.

Day running lights turn off but no other lights are on.

(Dipped and full beam headlights are fine).

Service manual helpfully just says if LED refer to dealer.

I cannot for the life of me see where a bulb or LED should be for the side lights.

Can anyone shed some light on how I work out if my side lights are bulbs or LED, and where they should be to look at replacing them.

Megane Cabrio - mk2 with 2.0i or mk3 with 1.4tce?

Hi, I'm looking for something "not boring" that can fit two children in the back, as a second/third car for short drives (also in winter with roof up). Coupe-cabriolet ownership will certainly be an experience, kids will be thrilled with the roof down and also with the glass over their heads when the roof is up. The question is, which one?

The second gen seems quite old-school to be "not boring," but the interior is ugly as hell (I like old interiors, just not this one), and there aren't many nice words about the reliability of this generation on the internet. The engine seems super simple, so at least there isn't much that can go wrong there.

The third gen is just approx. €1,000 more expensive compared to a post-FL second gen, so it's not that far off. The interior looks better, and it has that tiny wind deflector behind the rear seats, so perhaps it's less windy for rear passengers. But it's heavier and maybe unnecessarily new for my use case (basically a beater). Also turbo engine would be probably less happy with that short drives.

So, are my assumptions correct?

- Is the third gen less windy in the back?

- is the third gen a bit more reliable, or is that just an age difference?

- Does either generation have a significantly better roof mechanism or fewer roof-related issues?

What would you choose?

Thanks!

Question Renault Master 2.3 dCi: How do you replace the thermostat?

Hi everyone!
Is there a mechanic here, or someone who has already replaced the thermostat on a Renault Master III 2.3 dCi, who could give me some advice on how to access it?

The thermostat is located at the back of the engine, next to the firewall, and access is absolutely terrible. Honestly, I've never seen a thermostat in such an awkward location! 😅

From above, you can barely see anything. From the side, it looks like you'd have to remove the entire intake system, and even then, I'm not sure there would be enough room to work.

From underneath, although you might be able to see it, actually reaching it with your hands seems practically impossible.

I've already searched through manuals and tutorials, but I haven't found any guidance on the best way to do this job.

Has anyone dealt with this before and can explain the best way to reach the thermostat? Is there a particular component that needs to be removed to make access easier?

Thanks in advance for your help!
