Restaurant for wife's 50th, December

Hi All,

I'm flying to Salzburg with my wife in December from the UK and looking for recommendations for a nice, reasonably upmarket restaurant to take my wife to on her 50th birthday on Saturday 19th December.

I've looked at some of the Michelin-starred restaurants like the Glass Garden; they look great, but if you can suggest any restaurants that don't have 5-plus course tasting menus it would be great to hear them (I'm not sure if we will have the appetite). Up to 300 euros a head is still fine.

I'm flexible about the cuisines; Austrian food would be great, seafood, modern European etc. My wife is gluten-free so just not any restaurants heavily-focused on bread, pasta..

Thanks in advance (apologies for lack of German)

Schloss Aigen has phenomenal food, upscale but kin of cozy traditional vibes, budget of 80 pp will give you a perfect 3 course meal, plus drinks.

Seconding this. I have been to the Glass Garden and it felt somewhat overwhelming with the large tasting menu. I've only been to Schloss Aigen twice but have found the food to be fantastic, the atmosphere is more relaxed and the servers were very friendly. I know Jakob's Esskultur is recommended elsewhere on the thread and that's a close second for me. It does have the advantage of being in town but Schloss Aigen is easily reached by public transport/taxi and think would be a better fit for a celebration.

Weiherwirt. Really really nice place.

"Schrei" in Gneis is supposed to be really nice, but I have never been there so far

I really like Köchelverzeichnis, maybe just specifically ask for a small table when reserving.

Not in Salzburg but easily reachable by train in Hallein: Genusskrämerei They have a regional, creative and detail-oriented kitchen and in my experience are very flexible concerning allergies etc. Don't know specifically about gluten-free but am pretty sure that they could provide or substitute any gluten. They are for sure not focused on pasta etc.

I think they are way overrated.

I've heard good things about "Pfefferschiff" but never been there myself.

Besides that, someome mentioned Schloss Aigen, I can recommend tat one but only been there once for a bigger event, never for single dinner. Food and staff was excellent, and so is the location.

A name that has not been mentioned so far but worth looking into Jakob's Esskultur.

Sacher Zirbenstube, great Austrian God and upscale elegant but not snobby vibe.

Their Steaks were absolutely perfect the 2 times I've eaten there.
