Yes just read this last week, it was well put together and of course still remains absolutely no doubt whatsoever. I read the sisters book just before it and while she thinks he’s guilty her reasons are not really evidential facts and I think she was a bit weak in her realisation he was guilty. However, the point of juries is not to simply understand absolute fact, they have to intertwine other evidences that bring physical and circumstantial together - we have a whole story given to us from the defence and prosecution and we need to come to a verdict with either not enough evidence or enough that there is no reasonable doubt.

Sharon Rocha’s book “For Laci” is also a really interesting and good read.

I’m thinking about reading that. But her words at the sentencing were so powerful I got tears and it made me so angry and sad I don’t know if I could read her book

Her book mainly talks about Scott’s weird behavior the months before he got arrested. Gives some background in Laci’s life before she met Scott too.

Laci actually dated a guy for a couple years before Scott who went on to shoot his girlfriend in the back when she tried to leave him. It’s crazy the amount of violent men who were in her orbit and she was such a mild mannered woman.

Re. Laci's other felony BF: this was a very bad guy. Unfortunately perhaps Laci was too nice/had a fatal weakness/ to understand when she was dealing with a psychopath. Conversely, male psychopaths are very good at picking out women that have a weakness in this area. And frighteningly, being very very smart doesn't help a person to discern psychopaths: Ted Bundy hung around outside of law schools with a sling on his arm, looking for victims!

Scott did not tell Laci about Amber "in early December" or anytime. That's a beyond absurd assertion. (Unless maybe he told her right before he killed her to be even nastier.) But that December 15th "having to go to San Francisco to meet his [European] boss for dinner" should have been more of a WTF warning sign. What boss with a family suddenly decides to fly 12 hours just over a week before Christmas. But sadly, a nice pregnant woman is not probably going to make a serious challenge about that...

It's also a great audio book, really well narrated :)

It is so well laid out and clear. One of the best of its genre, I think.

Reading it now, it is beyond excellent.
It points out how dismissive scotts parents were. Had an affair or two? No biggie. Need 5 grand to cover your bills? Sure. Laci gave scott their golden, McKenzie, while dating or married, not sure. He brought the dog along on dates with other women! He was taught, from a young age that lying and manipulating is just the way to operate. I think he truly thought the state of California was no problem, he had lied his way through life before. He really is just a sociopath chameleon. And he will check out feet first in a box.

Thank you. Sadly it has a LOT of new details. Good thing they found out the gender as the baby was disemboweled. Also, several times, Scott questioned if Conner was his!!!

2

u/AFrankLender Aug 24 '26

That was beyond disgraceful! He wouldn't even admit to Amber that the baby was his...

I finished this last week. It's really good. I learned more about Laci and Scott, and their marriage. I liked that we learned some of their flaws, makes them more human. I didn't know that Laci could be bossy and order Scott around in front of other people. Or that she wanted a bigger house. Doesn't justify what he did, of course.

I really appreciate the work that went into how the police handled the case and gathered the testimonies and evidence. Definitely a good read.

Agreed, it really made Laci out to be more human, with flaws that we all have! I liked the parts where she was bossy and chatty. She once followed Scott into the bathroom and kept talking lol!! It also showed how easily Scott could change. For Laci? Allegedly good and patient husband. For Amber? Love bombing carefree widower. I read Robin Bird's book waaaay back and it was great. He flirted with a teenage babysitter and offered her a flitini! Ewwww! Robin said Scott was focused on the bay. Gee wonder why.

Once she got pregnant, and she was "bossing" Scott around to do things in the nursery etc. Scott was probably fine doing these chores thinking "I'm going to be killing you shortly, so whatever you want, I don't care..."

Why did she want a bigger house??

3

u/mermaidpaint Aug 23 '26

For the bigger family she wanted. She also wanted a better car. The author states that the Petersons were spending a lot to have a certain lifestyle.

And people claimed she was good with money 🧐🤨

3

u/mermaidpaint Aug 23 '26

At least she wasn't buying a dozen roses to love bomb the ladies, like Scott.

For sure! He was mental

2

u/OhMustWeArgue Aug 24 '26

I don't blame her for wanting to leave, sounds like the neighborhood was kind of crime ridden

I think I have just about every book on this case, and this is one of the best.

3

u/AFrankLender Aug 23 '26

I’ve read this, We The Jury, For LacI, Blood Brother, etc. Crier’s the best

To be fair, Pro Scott, I read Presumed Guilty. it’s horrendous. I’d certainly be willing to listen to any real exculpatory evidence, that would be verifiable, but there’s been nothing for 24 years

3

u/OhMustWeArgue Aug 23 '26

Yep he is sticking with the burglers theory. Because thats what burglers do: kidnap pregnant women, anchor them down in the bay.....and don't steal anything.

3

u/AFrankLender Aug 24 '26

That's Burglary 101 Baby Cakes! Don't run from a small time felony/misdemeanor break-in and entry, escalate to a 25 to life, pregnant chick kidnapping murder, right?

2

u/AFrankLender Aug 24 '26

Oh wait! The watch!

3

u/AFrankLender Aug 24 '26

One point this book brings home: if you're the police and you're going to frame someone for a crime, don't pick a spoiled rich kid to hang the crime on... Instead, Pick some poor white trash folks from the wrong side of town, like... Oh wait! Like Steven Todd...

It’s a great book, read it years ago and kept it to reread later. Thanks for the reminder!

1

u/SuddenManagement8366 Aug 22 '26

Not read this book sounds interesting ?

3
