"Frankly, I know the following story will be hard to believe. But it's all true, so make sure you read all the way to the end. You have to.
May 6th. I ran into a bunny girl in the wild. She was a student at Minegahara High, one year my senior. The celebrity, Mai Sakurajima."
And that's how it all began.
When I first watched Bunny Girl Senpai, I was still pretty new to anime. I obviously had no idea I'd still be this attached to it years later, or that I'd eventually be sitting here, feeling reluctant to watch its final installment.
I first started the series around the time the pandemic began. I was relatively new to anime and looking for something good to watch when I came across it. And honestly, by the end of the very first episode, I was already falling in love with it.
Then came that moment when the ending theme, Fukashigi no Carte, started playing. I was in love. Something about that moment just got to me. I remember sitting there for a few minutes after the episode ended, genuinely wondering what I'd just stumbled upon. It was such an amazing feeling, and I don't think I'll ever forget it.
And then I finished the first arc, and somehow, I fell even deeper in love with the series. (Sorry if all of this sounds cringey, but that's genuinely how much it affected me, and still does.)
The more I watched, the more I loved it. Every arc, every character, the music, the story, the interactions between the characters… it all became so much more to me personally.
I love pretty much everything about this series. The characters, their personalities and struggles, the way they interact with each other, and how the story made me grow attached to each of them. And ending each arc with Fukashigi no Carte, with a different version for each girl, was just perfect. I absolutely love that detail.
Back then, there wasn't any news about a new season, so I actually held off on watching Dreaming Girl for a while. I didn't want the journey to end just yet. I wanted to keep something to look forward to, something that meant there was still more of this story waiting for me.
At the same time, I wanted to experience more of the series, so I tried getting into the manga and light novels. I only managed to get my hands on one physical volume because buying them was pretty difficult during the lockdown.
I still remember people wondering whether there was any chance of a second season, discussing how popular the series was and hoping that it might happen someday, even if it would take a while. I really, really hoped it would happen.
And then came the movie announcements. What an amazing surprise that was! Eventually, we got the second season, which was amazing as well, and now we're here with this movie
It's honestly a little hard to believe how far we've come since those days when I was just a new anime fan who had randomly stumbled upon this series.
I really don't want this journey to end. It's been such a beautiful experience, and somewhere along the way, Bunny Girl Senpai became an important part of my life.
I wonder if anyone else has had this kind of experience with a series. You discover it, fall in love with it, and before you know it, you're not just remembering the story anymore. You're remembering when you watched it, what you were doing back then, how you felt, and how excited you were every time there was something new to look forward to.
And now, when I look back, I realize that this series has become a part of my own memories and my life, too. It's something I'll always look back on fondly, not just because of the story and characters, but because of the years I spent loving it and looking forward to what would come next.
Thank you to the wonderful author, artist, and everyone at the studio who helped bring this beautiful story to life. Thank you for giving me something that has meant so much to me, and for making this journey one I'll always treasure.
