It's so funny because I just saw another post about how Okuyasu is dumb, but like...is he really? Could he REALLY use it any better than he did, without just insta killing people? Because I thought he was pretty clever with scraping away space to teleport and stuff

684

u/ExtraReserve Ate shit and fell off my horse Apr 22 '26

Right? The Hand is powerful but it’s very one-note. Like, pretty much the main function of a stand that can erase things at will is to kill people. There’s really not a whole lot of stuff Okuyasu can do with The Hand without killing, which he seems generally opposed to. Teleportation is a smart and very versatile use, he just spams it because that’s pretty much all he has.

I wonder what its requiem would be

TWO HANDO

96

u/The-new-dutch-empire Apr 22 '26

Erases parts of history to a point it can make everything happen simultaneously by removing the endings of happenings out of the timeline.

Every jojo will be alive simultaneously in the same timeline

And yes thats not at all what i explained at the beginning but thats why its a requiem stand dumbass

106

u/therealbobhale I liek Turtles Apr 22 '26

Requiem is whatever you want most at that moment, so for him it would probably be the ability to cure his father

56

u/Destiny_Dude0721 Ambulance-Chan Apr 22 '26

It'd probably allow him to selectively scrape away his father's sickness.

40

u/DracheTirava Digiorno's Apr 23 '26

That could be further expanded to any sickness too, probably

Parasites? Gone

Cancer? Annihilated

Osteoporosis? Undone

Okuyasu has become life, destroyer of hospital bills

17

u/Smart_Idiot1041 Apr 23 '26

The Hand of Life ✌️

17

u/N_Meister Trash Ono Yoko Apr 23 '26

Okuyasu and Josuke hitting the hospital wards like:

5

u/Routine_Bus_5237 Apr 23 '26

Atp just give him Gappy’s bubbles

25

u/FurryPharma Apr 22 '26

I'd imagine it could scrape things similarly to how Soft & Wet does, rather than scraping away space, it could erase a quality or concept from the person.

46

u/Fish_can_Roll76 Andrew "Angelo" Killgrew Apr 22 '26

Honestly probably concept erasion, like being able to remove the very idea of whatever he hit.

56

u/kotominebrainrot Apr 22 '26

thank you… 「ZA HANDO」

「ZA HANDO」?

43

Because you smoke the ZA, and your stand uses a HANDO

Za footo!

1

u/TankyTinCan Apr 22 '26

His stand can now serve up sole food

3

u/RiceKrispies55 Apr 22 '26

He can now erase the memory and concept of anything he erases, resulting in true erasure. Only his stand, now sentient, remembers what he deletes.

2

u/Salt-n-spice Apr 22 '26

He has cut, requiem could allow paste

2

These Hands

1

u/Major_Spring872 Apr 22 '26

He erases through time and space with both hand, would be cool

1

u/unw00shed Apr 23 '26

Probably conversion, delete something and then replace it with anothrr

1

u/Ever_Theo Apr 23 '26

The Foot

1

u/DrMatt73 Apr 24 '26

Nah i wanna lay in on this.

Erasing space is cool, especially where it seems permanent and along with Crazy Diamond to bring back what's left we coulda had some wacky combo fights.

Moreso, we see him do one thing. Just a swipe grab and thats it. What about a tornado grab (360)? What about a single finger? Space manipulation affects time directly, so what of time skipping like Diavolo just much more physically point to point? Thats assuming The Hand has absolutely no other extra ability, which...well, seeing the character he probably didnt. We know the stand is to erase space. What if theres a limit, then he needs to release what he's moved? What if the stand is simply erasing and he has a much more meta-physical stand.

We just see what is, and what is i find beyond fun to imagine how itd effect other parts or characters, but even imagining its not so truly one note, just Okuyasu is, makes me really wish we saw more of him. Also hes so funny i just love seeing him around in the part

u/Ok_Banana6242 Apr 22 '26 edited Apr 22 '26

i'm so sick of people acting like the hand is an incredibly broken stand held back by okayasu, like its some sort of plot hole or something. yes, he is kinda dumb; and he probably could have used the utility of his stand a little better in some fights. but its not a magical "teleport around and delete every problem instantly" button, its a short ranged attack on a purely combat focused stand that's quite slow compared to other combat stands. in pretty much every fight; its clearly shown he gets outmaneuvered against most other close combat stands, and his attack is clearly telegraphed and easy to dodge. and he can only do it with the one hand mind you, which makes it even easier.

okayasu is basically a glass cannon; if he could manage to pin an opponent down so they couldn't dodge his attack he'd of course one shot them. he sure does have "the most powerful stand in existence" but that doesn't necessarily make him a god in combat, he's kinda min-maxed to a completely overkill degree. he's still beholden to a lot of the same weaknesses as other basic close combat stands, and his utility is not all that insane either relatively speaking.

64

u/HalfBakedPuns Apr 22 '26

objectively the hand is just a worse cream, especially considering vanilla ice was willing to kill instantly in a way okayasu avoided

41

u/SnakeTaster Apr 22 '26

Cream is very very dangerous, but having to fight entirely blind is not exactly a minor downside...

8

u/mik999ak Apr 22 '26

Does he necessarily HAVE to be inside of Cream, or can he still direct it from outside while leaving himself vulnerable? It's been a while since I watch that fight, so I forget whether or not he ever used Cream from outside of it

21

u/SnakeTaster Apr 22 '26

i believe nothing stops him from directing Cream remotely, but then he's susceptible to direct attack. Considering the real thing that makes cream scary is that it can be on offense while protected by a nearly perfect defense that's a pretty big compromise.

1

u/HannibalPoe Apr 25 '26

I don't think we ever saw anything indicating that he actually could operate cream remotely for any small distance, and for goddamn sure it's a close ranged stand that can't be ACTUALLY remote like the real remote stands, and given CREAM erases stuff on contact not by some projectile, it's only logical that he HAS to be inside CREAM for it to actually do anything. Having to fight blind isn't optional.

8

u/MeteorFalcon Apr 22 '26

Not in every aspect. Cream and Vanilla Ice can't see while it's spinning.

7

u/CesarGameBoy Little Cesar's Pizza Apr 22 '26

If Cream and The Hand erased one another… would it just break the fabric of reality?

18

u/HalfBakedPuns Apr 22 '26

we dont know where either void leads. im not a wormhole expert but id put it close to the bag of holding + portable hole rule in dnd, which at a glance opens a rift to the astral plane. so... yeah kinda

2

u/ginryuu1 Apr 22 '26

Okuyasu tried to kill Josuke in their first fight it's just that Josuke is able to dodge the swipe even without using Crazy Diamond.

16

u/SnakeTaster Apr 22 '26

i'm struggling to think of a single fight that Okayasu loses that isnt a self-own. the one instance of him being out fought in close combat is against a Joestar, who are basically defined by their superior ability at null range.

Okayasu dropped into any other chapter of JJBA would trivialize it. the reason he isn't relevant in much of Diamond is Unbreakable is because the small town setting avoids lethal stakes. He takes down the two actually lethal major antagonists single handedly, and in both cases is taken out of half of the fight by trickery

11

u/lurkerfox Apr 22 '26

People dont say it like its a plot hole, its literally canon and said by multiple characters that The Hand would be the strongest stand if its user was smarter.

3

u/Ok_Banana6242 Apr 22 '26

yes, it literally is the strongest in terms of raw strength. you can't get much stronger than deleting something from existence in a single touch, no questions asked. i'm saying people heard that line and immediately think its like, GER or MIH level of overpowered; and the only reason the hand can't solo all of fiction is simply because okuyasu is a dumb dumb goofball. and i think that's a ridiculous way to interpret it.

he is not particularly stupid in actual combat and his stand really doesn't have much more potential beyond what we see in his few fights. yes, he gets baited into missing attacks; but that's just as much on people exploiting the relative sluggishness of his stand as much as it is on him being gullible. his one ability basically just boils down to spamming falcon punch, of course people are going to antcipate it and punish him after. the ability to oneshot people really doesn't matter when 95% of all jojo villans get instantly folded by any melee combat regardless. really, every single "mistake" he made wouldn't have been a problem if he were just capable of punching a little bit faster instead of having to rely on one big swing at a time.

...can't think of any other characters that are good at punching really really fast in the series off the top of my head though.

4

u/SnakeTaster Apr 22 '26

its a melee trump card on a stand that is never, ever outside of melee range.

1

u/lurkerfox Apr 22 '26

I mean if you want to get worked up and argue against the in canon statements of the story be my guest.

They say its the strongest so ergo it must be the strongest. The only actually reasonable counter argument is it just being the strongest so far at that point in the story. GER and MIH came afterwards so obviously the characters proclaiming The Hand to be the strongest stand sans user wouldnt have those as reference points.

4

u/Ok_Banana6242 Apr 22 '26 edited Apr 22 '26

i just think its a mistake to conflate "strongest" with "best". it can be simultaneously true that the hand is a terrifying, overwhelmingly powerful force to be reckoned with; and also evidently be a vulnerable, exploitable stand that gets heavily countered by more versatile stands. just cause the matador can dodge the charging bull doesn't make the bull not a ton of pure muscle.

i love my boy okuyasu, and i guess i just get kinda offended on his behalf when people flanderize him down to the singular character trait of "he could beat everyone if he weren't such a bumbling buffoon". he most definitely is rash, impulsive, and easily influenced; but that's not the only factor at play keeping the hand's power in check. there's more nuance to the situations the hand excels and falters in; and in my opinion that makes him all the more compelling of a character. IMO, basically all of P3 and P4's main cast of heroes and villains absolutely wash the hand; let alone future characters. being exclusively close range melee and being vulnerable to bait is just a core fundamental weakness of the hand, even a smart user would struggle to gain the upper hand against the likes of josuke and RHCP. the hand is just kind of mid, and that's fine! its not entirely okuyasu's fault he can't rush down everyone he goes up against. if anything, he's lucky he never really has to fight more esoteric stand abilities that can cheese the fuck out of him.

i've seen a lot of people imply he's poorly written or one-dimensional because he just steps on his own balls repeatedly, but really they don't fully understand why the matchups he was in played out the way they did. seeing people take the "he would be terrifying if he weren't as stupid" line on the face of it is hardly different than people taking "the emerald splash never misses!" at face value IMO. bit too many "oi josuke!" memes have caused people to mischaracterize okuyasu as nothing more than a really strong, really stupid guy i think.

1

u/HannibalPoe Apr 25 '26

Dio and Pucci talk about stands and Pucci uses the term "strongest" and Dio IMMEDIATELY tells him that there is no such thing with stands, outside of raw output, there isn't a "strongest" or "best" stand. Survivor was a great example of this.

The hand and Cream are just the two stands that do the most damage, but plenty of stands do a little less damage and one shot you while being significantly more versatile, subtle, or other huge advantages. Killer queen is a great example of this.

1

u/lurkerfox Apr 25 '26

Thats not quite what dio was saying. He said that the circumstances and proper usage is more important than raw stand power, with the 'weakest' stand survivor being an example of this.

By Dio's logic, the circumstance that would propel The Hand into truly being the most powerful stand would be having a smarter user.

1

u/HannibalPoe Apr 26 '26

But that's the point they're making here, there is no strongest stand in terms of best, comparing stands like killer queen to stands like the hand is the best proof, there doesn't need to be a fight or even noticeable contact for kira to catch a body and ultimately even if Okayasu was willing to kill he couldn't beat Kira, nor could literally anyone else if their stand was the hand.

The canon overstates Okayasu's powers a bit too, he's shown to be slow which is a seriously fatal flaw, and he's not good at dealing with ranged stands. Okayasu also isn't dumb when he's fighting, he doesn't want to kill anyone so he has to use the hand more clelvery so he doesn't accidentally kill his opponent. Giorno's stand is significantly better than Okayasu's despite having less raw power because it does a ton of things that are vastly more important than just having raw power. Outside of smart characters with god awful stands or stands that don't really fight like Abbachio's, the smart characters tend to have more useful stands than Okayasu does and they have enough power to still get the job done. I don't think the smartest characters would exchange stands with Okayasu.

10

u/Makerofthingssoon Apr 22 '26

He was clever with the different applications of the hand, his problem was being too reckless. Most fights he’s in end in a loss due to him doing something unnecessary that opens opportunities for his enemies.

6

u/Mythical_Mew Apr 22 '26

Just off the top of my head, having not read/watched Part 4 in years, I distinctly recall him pulling a dumb move on the motorcycle chase. Besides actually opening up an escape route in the first place, he could have just easily dragged the motorcycle back or even stalled it, after which RHCP would be jumped and unable to do anything. He did make up for the mistake later, but it was still a very bad move.

Or that time he got KO’d via a basic oversight of his own abilities. It was better for him in the long run but still another very basic oversight.

He’s sometimes made good use of it, but he has a very consistent pattern of failing basic spot checks when using his ability.

2

u/Gizogin Apr 22 '26

Or deciding to use his Stand to punch Super Fly, instead of just erasing one of its legs to make it topple.

2

u/Mrgirdiego Apr 23 '26

He did try erasure on Superfly, you can hear the sound effect and see the visual effects of it when it comes back at him.

12

u/HBmilkar Apr 22 '26

Nah the way we see killer queen in part 8 it’s clear you can be creative with just one stand.

Especially for example when polnareff and kakyoin shrink their stands. It adds layers of creativity to their simple abilities

8

u/ExtraReserve Ate shit and fell off my horse Apr 22 '26

To be fair to Okuyasu, I think Araki retconned the idea of stands shrinking because it never comes up again in the story.

3

u/HBmilkar Apr 22 '26

You forgetting about the mini sheer heart attacks from part 8?

6

u/Lactismido_Gigante Apr 22 '26

That's another universe, and the miny sheer heart attacks seem to be the only application of them

2

u/ginryuu1 Apr 22 '26

Kira is shown creating dozens of Sheer Heart Attacks each one the size of a human head to blow up a pier.

Plus Abbachio is shown shrinking Moody Blues in its introduction.

2

u/Nottan_Asian sex pistol no. 4 Apr 22 '26

To me it feels like the recurring problem is that he’s a move spammer. Like he has 2-3 ways to use the stand but once something works he’ll keep doing it till it doesn’t.

And he never learns to use his left hand or stop blocking with his chin.

2

u/Capital_Abject Apr 22 '26

He shows off basically all the ways you could use the ability it's more that he doesn't use his power to move himself and things around as often as her should

1

u/Oingoulon Apr 23 '26

He’s very easily tricked into using his own power against him, and well, easily tricked in general

4

u/SnakeTaster Apr 22 '26

also Shigechi (although he's still pretty crafty despite being a child)

529

u/Sporelord1079 Apr 22 '26

Actually incredible character design to have a room temperature IQ punk in a series known for every fight to devolve into 4D chess.

137

u/Potential-Diver-3409 Apr 22 '26

His scenes are also incredible too, even with something directly in front of him you still don’t know if he’ll get it lol

7

room temperature IQ

I laughed so much at this, that's the most savage and rare insult I've read in my life

Fair enough

2

It’s actually pretty common

211

u/Demonskull223 Apr 22 '26

I got it a stand that allows you to travel into the void and leave wherever you want. While you are in the void you have a shpere of negative area that just deleted anything that touches it. While you travel around the void the negative area follows you around in the real world.

64

u/Greg-theseatreader Apr 22 '26

also you are immortal even without the stand and your one weakness is sunlight (and you fight indoors)

19

I'm weak to sunlight?

17

No no. It's a joke based on how Vanilla Ice wasn't aware of his vampire nature.

10

His nature was really enigmatic.

9

u/Crafty-Mention-5091 Apr 22 '26

A bizarre nature

2

This is like that one guy's ability from [TITLE CARD] (i forgot the character's name but he was Batman's parody character)

Oh yeah black lightning.

132

His own brother was like…you could be so strong dude…if you weren’t dumb as bricks boy.

97

u/Slow-Distance-6241 Apr 22 '26

I mean it just makes sense when stands main flaw is the user. Otherwise it just would be plain unfair to have stands of unequal power

30

Give everyone Hey Ya as their only stand and let them battle but give Koichi 2 of them

48

24

u/superhamsniper stag beetle champion Apr 22 '26

The ratio between iq and stand power can never change, to have a strong stand you must be stupider than someone with a weaker stand.

10

u/SeaThePirate Apr 22 '26

the jojos are the main exception to this

10

u/superhamsniper stag beetle champion Apr 23 '26

Stand power is stored in the star birthmark probably then

3

u/treemu Apr 23 '26

And Joseph is the main exception to the main exception

24

u/Kaliekewaka Apr 22 '26

It still bothers me that Araki basically said that Star Platinum is the ultimate stand only to proceed to constantly make stands with comparable power or just absolutely broken abilities.

1

u/Empty-Novel3420 Apr 27 '26

Whats stronger then time stop for 5 seconds?

1

u/Kaliekewaka Apr 28 '26

It still bothers me that Araki basically said that Star Platinum is the ultimate stand only to proceed to constantly make stands with comparable power or just absolutely broken abilities. Time skip for 15 seconds, time travel back an hour, reset the universe, erase stuff from existence at least 2 stands do this, time stop for 11 seconds, create life that also acts as a damage mirror, Death 13, etc. Also, let’s not forget that a literal rat beat Jotaro.

18

u/FarBeautiful5637 Apr 22 '26

Okuyasu isnt even that dumb when it comes to battle he just isnt a murderer he found some rather cleveer ways to utilize the hand he just didnt straight up erase peoples head

13

u/Odd-Iron-6860 Apr 22 '26

Bohemian Rhapsody, amirite?

8

u/Sweetexperience Apr 22 '26

Kinda ironic since the main villain has a fetish for that stand

Skills name: king's slander

Skill effect: slander so good you could die

Skill activation condition: the better the enemy is slandered, the more damage is inflicted into them. For the damage to be valid, the slander has to be irrefutably accurate to the enemy's actual life history. If the slander is lenient and irrelevant the skill will do no damage followed by a "bruh" sound. If the enemy manages to refute the intended slander in a valid manner, the damage is deflected back to the the king's slander user followed by a "fraudwatch" sound.

If the enemy can't successfully refute their slanders within 2.5 seconds after statement, king's slander will apply the full damage. Taking away all their aura followed by a "jackpot" sound

If the king's slander user fails to counter slander their enemy's refutal argument within 2.5 seconds after statement, they will instead receive the aura loss followed by a "faaahhh" sound.

The skill is stackable.

If 7 slanders are successfully landed on the enemy, king's slander automatically activates "67".

Effects of 67: spawns 67 Epstein files. If any of the files that hits the enemy contains a single redacted section, the enemy dies.

67 lasts for 67 seconds.

If 67 fails to activate, all the damage the enemy has taken so far from king's slander is thrown back to the user followed with a '"loud nigra" sound

King's slander user has then the option to use "balance" the penalty by slandering themselves. But "balance" effect then gives the enemy the right to also use the "king's slander" skill for 67 whole seconds.

By then, it will be a battle of wits n shi
