OBX winter monthly rentals, actually cheaper off season?

I’m thinking about spending a month in the Outer Banks this winter while working remotely. Are the monthly rental rates noticeably cheaper in the winter compared to summer, or is it one of those “discounts” that don’t seem that great once you factor in heating costs? Also, is the off-season pretty isolating, or are enough businesses still open year-round?
