Enshrouded or Valheim

EDIT UPDATE: Screw it, I bought both! But I'll leave this up so others can get an answer. I'm sure it's a question that'll pop up again. Thanks all!

....

Now that both are out of EA, which would you recommend to someone who wants to play hundreds of hours in a (1) pausable, (2) open world, (3) minimal cutscene, (4) survival game with (5) great environmental storytelling and (6) pretty graphics (7) solo?

I honestly think both titles look awesome so I'm not too sure which to go with.

Side note: I also like looting in games but I'm not sure either offer this mechanic.

Looking at your requirements, then Valheim. World is generated differently each time. Each biome is very differently. Very much survival game. The whole atmosphere is great. I really enjoy Valheim. I am enjoy enshrouded aswell, but would suggest Valheim.

Having played both and taking into consideration your requirements I will recommend Enshrouded.

The reason for this is because you asked both for great environmental storytelling and pretty graphics.

In terms of storytelling Enshrouded is ahead, because the world is hand built and there's A LOT to explore. You will be wandering around and you will find little secrets which are always fun. For example, I was just walking through one of the biomes, decided to climb a mountain and somewhere at the top I found a tombstone. I dug up in front of it and there was a chest with loot. It's a small detail, but it's nice to know that you can find random stuff like that scattered around the map. There are caves, houses, villages, camps and dungeons which are not part of any quest but they all might still have some kind of lore text which adds to the whole context of the story. In that regard I like Enshrouded more because Valheim is all randomly generated so although it's still fun to explore the world doesn't tell a story the same way Enshrouded does.

Valheim is still awesome though! You should definitely check it out after beating Enshrouded.

I don't like Valheim. Too grindy and feels pretty dull IMO. I like how Enshrouded has quests and handmade dungeons and world. Feels much more alive.

Play both, start with Valheim cause it's the GOAT, and then appreciate all of the QoL features that Enshrouded has that Valheim doesn't.

Enshrouded has probably the best building in the genre, and way more rfined in everything. Personally, I just dislike the skill tree and combat overall. Valheim is super grindy, and combat is harsh, but it feels way more satisfying when it does work, building is good despite being kinda clanky.

So, for your more personal part, i dont think either has cutscenes? Maybe one cinematic here or there? Valheims survival comes from a staple of, your base stats are low, food gives you these stats, you got 3 food slots to fill. Enshrouded has basically the same, but theres a toggle for you to die if you are empty stomach for too long. If you consider valheims psx graphics as pretty it can be I guess? If not theres no comparing to be done here. Lastly, I honestly wouldnt reccomend valheim for solo, too slow with like, mining while a bunch of guys attack you, mp tyiu can have someone as a guard, and then you basically double inventory space for the trip back. Enshrouded, it can work solo, just, personally a bit boring I think.

Have you played 1.0? It's a big revamp to skills and combat.

In my opinion you could flip a coin on this one, both are super

I think Enshrouded will tickle the pickle for more players over Valheim as the graphics are traditionally better, good QOL mechanics and it feels a little less janky

I would say personally I prefer Valheim but that’s only as it’s more difficult and the feeling of sailing into the unknown as you look for biomes, traders etc is absolutely incredible

But either game you choose I suspect you will have a lot of fun

Enshrouded isn't a survival game, so Valheim

•

Lol... Valheim is barely a survival game too... But at least you have an option to activate death by hunger in Enshrouded

I own both of these games and am excited for the comments. I don't have an answer personally

So I bought both too haha! I'm leaving this up to see what people think though. I'm sure others will have the same question at some point.

Valheim is my fav but they're both awesome. The " atmosphere " of valheim might be better thanks to the too notch procedural world generation. But I think Enshrouded is a more " complete and modern" game with easy to understand mechanics and features

Enshrouded had a weird ai slop feel to it that I couldn't look past. Weird movement, clay looking generic visuals. Valheim has its own strange visuals too of course but it's unique. I would lean towards valheim gameplay wise

Both. Both is good.
