Soft/medium hard disagree. And…. anecdote time!

Theres a handful of Japanese/Sushi restaurants where I live with all you can eat sushi, and that shit was AWESOME until a couple of assholes took advantage of it and ate all the sushi but none of the rice. And now? Those same spots had back out of “ALL you can eat” in order to confirm “YOU MUST EAT ALL.” Which also comes with limits on what can be ordered that does not INCLUDE rice.

It used to be “all you can eat sushi” with edamame, miso soup, salad with ginger dressing, all the wasabi and pickled ginger you could shake a stick at (or eat)— basically $30-40 for WHATEVER YOU WANT, just eat it.

It’s on the restaurant to to include commonsense conditions. Japanese near me is 90mins and eat everything you order. They don’t enforce the food rule unless you’re abusing the situation, and at 90mins they come and ask for a final order/dessert

I've got a place like that near me. You can order a ridiculous amount of stuff at once, and you have 90 minutes. They charge $1 for everything you don't eat. That money goes to whatever charity they're currently supporting.

It seems bullshit that you can be refunded the money and there is no obligation to provide more food.

Customers virtually never have the ability to simply back out of a deal, why should a company?

It’s a private place of business, they can decide to stop serving someone. Maybe they went too far, or maybe he was a menace. I do know I’ve gone for gold at plenty of buffets and never once been removed. Must’ve been a scene

It's one thing to remove someone from the premises because they're violating terms of service, but that can't include 'you're eating too much' if there's no limits in those terms of service.

Sure there are limits, the restaurant decides the limit. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s written somewhere on their menu or elsewhere, but it’s common sense that a restaurant would have stipulations in place.

Do you have this problem, or read of it often?

If it's not displayed clearly to the customer before they've entered the verbal contract, then they can get fucked.

No, I've not had this problem - and usually people are reluctant to talk about this sort of thing happening to them given the fun people are likely to make of them, but somewhat analogous I HAVE had issues where there's an all-you-can-eat steak session with a time limit, and all of a sudden there's restrictions that aren't mentioned anywhere. Like, you can't order more steak until you've finished the steak AND the gargantuan plate of chips they include. And they'll bring out the steak like 30 minutes after ordering so it's impossible to order more than 3-4 serves even if you are some sort of bottomless pit of potato digestion. Do you think they'd let you back out of the deal and refund your money once you learn that? Nah.

You might’ve been able to call the steak place’s bullshit if you tried, you provide way more context for your situation than this pic. This is a buffet though, and the claim is that he ate like the place owed him money.

They still have to honor the deals/promotions they advertise.
