A lot of their music has political and anti-war lyrics though… what’s the difference if they’re speaking it or growling/singing it? Are you admitting you don’t care about the lyrics? Because that’s part of their music lmao
Disposable heroes, one, …and justice for all. There’s three for you. All dealing with war, corruption, and abuses of power. Crazy how you can listen to a band for decades and still miss the entire point of their music. Now you wanna address the argument or keep playing gatekeeper?
Huge difference between expression through music and demanding musicians to give a speech for the cause of your choice. Weird how so many insist musicians speak in support of those who slaughter musicians and audiences at music festivals. Let’s just not mention Taylor Swift Eras Tour Vienna, or Ariana Grande Manchester.
The only reason people are looking at it this way though is because they made a speech about not giving speeches which is still a political statement. Why didn't they just play their music if they really cares about "no politics"
No one was demanding anyone give a speech. They stopped to virtue signal about it. Lmfao like literally THEY BROUGHT IT UP. lol y’all right-wing closet dinks are so fucking funny
Look around you, my guy. The world is incredibly polarized. Complacency in the face of injustice is a political statement too, especially when you’ve got a massive platform. Nobody’s demanding that musicians give political speeches, but hetfield calling other artists messages “bullshit” is fucking cowardly, especially coming from the guy who wrote disposable heroes and …and justice for all. Rock and roll was built on rebellion, challenging authority, and speaking truth to power. You don’t get to spend decades profiting off those themes and then act like musicians using their platforms to confront injustice is somehow beneath you. That’s a bitch move and completely antithetical to the soul of rock and roll.
Sorry I don’t give a shit about how polarized things are when one sides message is “here is a list of good reasons to target musicians and audience at music events” when I am a musician and audience that goes to music festivals.
Who the fuck is advocating for targeting musicians or concertgoers? Certainly not me. You’re arguing against something nobody here has said. Condemning the slaughter of innocent civilians doesn’t magically mean endorsing violence against other innocent civilians. You can oppose both. It’s really not that complicated. Now do you actually have something to say about hetfield’s hypocrisy, or are we just making up arguments to get upset about?
The pro-pal movement has tons of reasons to justify the Oct 7 attack at nova music massacre. Then demand nobody mourn unarmed victims because “Israel has no right to defend itself” and “why would they have a music festival near an outdoor prison” or several other excuses to parade Shani Louk remains to cheering crowds.
And? Does political commentary suddenly have an expiration date? War, corruption, and abuse of power didn’t magically disappear after the 80s. Not to mention death magnetic and hardwired both have songs touching on war, societal collapse, and the darker side of humanity. You’re basically admitting their music has political themes while trying to dismiss them because they’re old. What kind of argument is that??
I didn't dismiss anything. I said its not a lot, and it was much of their earliest idiology.
None of their newer stuff is themed like that. Everyone who listens to Metallica know they did a complete flip in the early 90s after the black album.
Apocalyptic themed music is their mainstay, which is what you're referring to on both death magnetic and hardwired. Thats not a political statement or anti-war.
Maybe go listen to the words of Moth Into Flame and let me know what you think thats about.
Confusion literally deals with the psychological toll of war on soldiers? The day that never comes has obvious wartime imagery? Both came out decades after the 80s? So much for none of their newer stuff touching those themes! Also I’m well aware moth into flame is about the destructive nature of fame. What does that have to do with anything? My point was never that every Metallica song is political. It’s that political and social commentary have been part of their music for decades, making hetfield’s dismissal of other artists doing the same thing pretty fucking ironic dude. You’re arguing against a claim I never made.
He brought up not pushing some message. He’s right. It’s always been their take. Fuck off lol. You tools are unbearable. The only group as annoying as far right weirdos are the virtue signaling extreme left. I wish everyone would pack their bags and leave together.

When I go to a concert, I go there to hear music. I didn't pay to go to a political rally...
