No this is ludicrous. Internationally not using your platform because you're just an entertainer is exactly what I want from them. Not only is it ok to not have an opinion about everything, I don't want to be bombarded by everyone's all the time

Redditors need their self back pats from celebrities affirming their virtue, it’s fucking pathetic lmao

u/sluttyseinfeld 12h ago

I wonder if these terminally online weirdos realize how much damage they are doing to their own causes by being so annoying all the time

-3

u/writers_block_ 12h ago

They're mainly bots. Posting things to get people angry over nothing. To distract from other things going on.

-1

u/Bennu-Babs 11h ago

Granted I'm not going to read over 2000 comments, but not sure what this has to do with redditors. This is a screen shot of Twitter, and all the top comments and votes seem to agree that they didn't want political statements from musicians.

Feels to me the only one virtue signaling is you, punching down on the flaws of others.

They could have just played music. They didnt need to say anything. That's what I would expect from someone who just wanted to be a musician and not get involved.

u/farrowsharrows 13h ago

Nailed it.

-3

u/Somethingsilly6969 13h ago

I'm sure half the audience was screaming "free Palestine" so I can't exactly blame them

4

u/Coyoteishere 12h ago

I would be surprised if their audience was screaming that

2

u/LurkLiggler 12h ago

Yeah. The Metallica crowd in Vegas. Noted site of endless crowd protesting.

1

u/Ok-Conversation-6475 11h ago

Im sure this 45 year old band is packing venues full of Gen Z and Alpha kiddos agitating for radical social change.

Metallica has loads of political songs. They've got an album called 'and justice for all'

1

u/spooky_ed 12h ago

Which is why they use their music to speak for them. Kind of the entire point of what James Hetfield said.

1

u/LowProtection8515 12h ago

'Were not here to lecture you about politics. Here are out 20 songs about politics'

1

u/ZoharDTeach 11h ago

Do you have an example that isn't older than I am?

0

u/LowProtection8515 11h ago

Metallica are in their late 60s

1

u/nthensome 12h ago

Thank you.

Exactly

1

u/Small_Page_8299 12h ago

I never in my life thought that words “I don’t like Metallica” will come out my mouth, life’s full of surprises.

1

u/Theuneasygibbon 12h ago

They have an album about sending young men to the meat grinder. Metallica used to be political, they just got rich and sold out. Also, with great power comes great responsibility. If you have a platform use it for good, instead of looking like some closeted maga fuckwit

1

u/iiSoySauce 12h ago

Okay great point. So then why didn’t they just shut the fuck up and not bring it up at all?

1

u/Thee-End 11h ago

Yup. A big problem in the world is that we have all of these people with platforms and they don't use it for good. They should speak about injustices, corruption and human suffering instead of being silent and cashing in on it. Especially with how fucked the world is right now. We're purposely getting spammed with atrocities so that we can't keep up and have the ability to fight back or stop them.

The world as it is now often reminds me of the end of the movie A Clockwork Orange when they hold his eyelids open and overwhelm him. We're living a more technologically advanced version of that day in and day out.

1

u/Coitus_Maximus_Sr 10h ago

So are you upset he forced the crowd to hear his opinion, instead of just singing the set list?

0

u/King_Roberts_Bastard 13h ago

Then he should've just shut the fuck up, not come out and said im apolitical.

5

u/Somethingsilly6969 13h ago

I'm sure there's a lot of pressure on entertainers to make statements on the Palestinians so this was their statement

-6

u/King_Roberts_Bastard 12h ago

Which is a really fucking dumb one. If youre going to talk about it, be on the correct side. The side against genocide/ethnic cleansing, the side against war and conquest, the side against death and destruction.

Or just dont talk.

AFAIK, he wasnt directly asked a question in an interview or something like that. He chose to come out and say this.

1

u/TawnyTeaTowel 12h ago

“… the side against death and destruction”

Is Palestine the innocent victim in all this to you? Have you a really short memory or do you get all your opinions exclusively from TikTok videos?

1

u/CarlosMolotov 12h ago

Preach. Palestine is currently experiencing the “find out” phase of a very simple universal truth.

-1

u/King_Roberts_Bastard 12h ago

Yes. They are. I can separate Hamas, the government of Gaza, from the Palestinian people.

I know this is hard for you, but the people are not the government.

I hate Israel, specifically the Likud party, but I dont hate Jews.

4

u/Scuba9Steve 12h ago

Hard to shut the fuck up when people keep pressuring you to take a side 🤷‍♂️

-2

u/King_Roberts_Bastard 12h ago

Noy really. Just dont come out and comment on it.

-1

u/Scuba9Steve 12h ago

People keep asking, eventually you’re like fuck it.

0

u/King_Roberts_Bastard 12h ago

Was he asked in an interview? No, he wasnt.

1

u/Southsideclide 13h ago edited 12h ago

Why? It really only pisses off the conformity zealots, and fuck those guys and their purity tests.

-1

u/itsliluzivert_ 12h ago

I’m more worried about a genocide than some fucking purity test. Get a grip.

1

u/Southsideclide 12h ago

If that were true you would care about the genocides in Myanmar, Sudan, and Ethiopia. But you don't, because you really only care about being seen to care about genocide.

0

u/KTell_757 11h ago

Or people can just care about and be against ALL genocide and can appreciate when people speak out against them. Whether they're mainstream media exposed or not. But thats ok, I'll learn from your example of knowing someone else's cares and emotions for them. Given that thought process, you must support genocide, right? You're arguing against a person that is against it so....

-1

u/itsliluzivert_ 12h ago

Who said I don’t? You imagined that for the sake of your worthless argument. The irony is here you come with your purity test.

1

u/Southsideclide 12h ago

Oh my bad is that the genocide you wanted Metallica to comment on? I totally believe you.

1

u/TheNecrostar 12h ago

No its metallica, luda was in fast and furious /s

1

u/FarSoil12 13h ago

Lol, it's fine if they don't have an opinion. What makes them weak is they obviously have a very strong opinion but can't justify their position. It's them being scared about being open about their beliefs that is being mocked.

It's the same with say, hating gays for some reason, as an example. The people who hold these beliefs understand their position doesn't make any sense, but they don't want to change or even examine their beliefs because it is uncomfortable.

That's the whole thing here, and I get some of the stuff they made 30 years ago was awesome, and I agree that was awesome, but idk, some people don't want to support assholes and that's ok too.

2

u/Somethingsilly6969 13h ago

It's not at all obvious that they side with Israel over the Palestinians. I side with the Palestinians and I'm only telling you now to make my point. I'm not having conversations about my opinion on this, even with relatives who agree with me, because it has nothing to do with me. I even agree with Ed Sheeran. I don't want to hear his opinion on the matter, regardless of where he falls on it. He's a singer / songwriter, nothing more, nothing less

2

u/FarSoil12 12h ago

I'm not really sure that the best way for us, or anyone to conduct ourselves in the world is to just shut up and perform.

The whole idea here is Metallica is criticizing other people who want to express their beliefs. I personally don't give a fuck about palestine one way or another, but I respect people's right to have a stupid opinion about it one way or another.

So that's really what's at issue here Metallica sucks not because they love or hate whatever the issue is, it's that they want anyone who doesn't agree with them to shut up. That's not the world we want.we want expression, transparency and challenging authority - we should always encourage minority position dissent, if nothing else to check our beliefs.

The non metal thing here again, is both the suppression, and a party that is ironically afraid to be more open about their beliefs.

u/dorobica 12h ago

Their music is political..

-1

u/TawnyTeaTowel 12h ago

“War is bad” is a different type of politics to “THIS war is bad”

1

u/FarSoil12 12h ago

Agree, they should only criticize the bad wars, and should work more on glorifying the good wars

-1

u/TawnyTeaTowel 12h ago

Dumbfucksayswhat?

2

u/FarSoil12 10h ago

You are the one that said there's a difference. What war right now is not bad?

-1

u/granular-vernacular 12h ago edited 11h ago

Their music ISNT political.

With the exception of Injustice for all maybe and that barely qualifies.

-2

u/Dhenn004 13h ago

Do you just not listen to the lyrics? Or?? Music often has politics in it. Including Metallica.

0

u/Somethingsilly6969 13h ago

Sure but that's music. If Metallica wants to write music about the Palestinians, great but that's not what this is
