This is retarded. I have NEVER gone to a concert by any band and said “I sure hope they get political during the show”. People making an issue with this are shit.
He made a political point to not get political. He played the radical centrist card of "not being political" which is still a political choice. He didn't have to say anything. By saying something like he said, he put himself out there, and there are going to be social consequences. Keep in mind, he is not being cancelled. People have a right to critique what any speech they don't like. Much of this is also due to the amplification of the almighty algorithm.
But also for a dude who wrote "Disposable Heroes" and other songs imbued with political stances/social justice issues... This feels like a weird stance from the POV of many fans.
