Cancel culture has been around since the dawn of time. If you say something to oiss off/alienate your audience/fans they stop coming and you stop making money. This isn't some new "woke" concept, it's just how the world works.

Lol keep pretending this kind of silly internet outrage shit will have even the remotest impact on metallica concert ticket sales. The real world doesn't run on performative virtue signaling. It runs on actual illegal protests that don't play by the rules. You're not changing the world from the stage of a paid concert.

Then you acknowledge cancel culture isn't real? And that sometimes people on the internet are just saying they don't like something/someone

Nope, it's absolutely real and does affect people's lives. It's just not affecting this specific band's ticket sales, they are far too big for that. They will still be getting plenty of toxic hate mail, widespread criticism in clickbait outrage slow news day "journalism" publications, people being rude online in any space they might occupy etc.

Two things can be true, you don't have to treat these as mutually exclusive absolutes. Also cancel culture doesn't only affect media personalities, you can be cancelled as a private employee or even as an underaged student. "Not real" my ass dude.

Again if you do something bad enough that your employer determines keeping you on would be damaging to the business, that is the consequences of your actions. The concept of being fired for behaving poorly in the community is also not new. Get a grip.

This implies top down power structures are moral paragons of judgement. An awful lot of trust put in authority figures and corporate oversight no? Do you feel this way about other political issues that corporate entities engage with?

Can you think of one example of doing/ saying something outside of work that you could be unfairly fired for? Are you fighting ghosts?

Protesting for Palestine

You really are fighting ghosts! I know lists of people (including the Australian prime minister) that have been sighted at pro Palestine protests and not been fired. But I do know of a bunch of people that went to anti-covid lockdown protests turned riots that face repercussions in their personal and professional lives. And I think that's the difference. Expressing an opinion and participating in unnecessary violence.

Look up "fired for pro palestinian protest" and come back after you've done your homework lol 😆 what the hell dude it's literally right there

I googled it and the first few articles were about some employers had (you're right I stand corrected) and now are facing huge backlash for having done so (oh wait this works both ways). I'm not actually sure what point you're arguing for at this stage.

I suppose I'm a fan of due process instead of trial by public opinion or even worse, corporate oversight. Wild stance, I know. I'm a fringe thinker.

I'm a fan of due process in regard to criminal matters. However I don't think I need to hold a trial to decide I don't want to support a band anymore. Again: not cancel culture, just the way the world has always been. If you behave in ways people don't like/agree with the will distance themselves from you.
