Europe invented the World Wide Web. Unfortunately, that means we now have to read stupid tweets like this one.

u/Schrodinger81 7h ago

Wrong. Al Gore invented it.

u/Sensitive_nob 6h ago

AI Gore? Thats unamerican, its SI Gore now.

1

u/enixlinked 2h ago

Yes gore? America needs more of it. And it needs to be messy

17

u/Crunchykroket 6h ago

I thought he invented climate change.

12

u/HELPIMRETARDED112 6h ago

You know Quasimodo predicted all this.

4

u/Schrodinger81 6h ago

I forgot about that! Prolific guy.

1

u/jefesignups 6h ago

I thought he invented Man Bear Pig

2

u/flyinhighaskmeY 5h ago

nah, he just built the tubes

You know the WWW and the internet aren't the same thing right?

The Internet and the World Wide Web are not the same thing. The Internet—the underlying network connecting computers globally—was developed earlier (starting in the late 1960s with ARPANET). Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web, which is an application running on top of the Internet that allows us to view web pages, media, and navigate via hyperlinks.

u/nemec 6h ago

Of course he knows that. That's why he didn't mention the internet.

0

u/JX_JR 3h ago

Well then he should know that 85% of people engaging with Reddit or Twitter aren't using the World Wide Web in any way.

What if I told you that apps are just thinly disguised and highly specialized web browsers, designed to work with only one particular website?

All the work behind the scenes is just http requests to webservers, just the same as using reddit or twitter on a browser.

So, no, it's not true that 85% of people engaging with reddit or twitter aren't using the www in any way. 100% of people engaging with twitter or reddit are definitely using the WWW.

This is not true of how apps for reddit or Twitter work: they interface with an API, not an http webserver.

This is why reddits API policy changes broke all the third party apps, same for Twitter/X third party apps. Its also how X was able to shut down Xcancel by denying it API access.

Anyway, they are far removed from working anything remotely like "a thinly veiled web browser"

u/iTiraMissU 2h ago

He’s sort of right since most apps (and I assume the Reddit app as well) are written with web technology but that doesn’t make them a browser since it’s all executed locally except the API calls

1

u/CurvySexretLady 1h ago

Yes, things like Chromium's web rendering engine are indeed used to handle the display and mockup of the UI and various components.

But no, the app interfaces with reddit behind the scenes with API calls, not http protocols.

u/Anthaenopraxia 5h ago

Na we all know Max Goldberg was the real inventor of the internet.

1

u/Sudden-Money7836 5h ago

Why did you use AI for that?

1

u/NibblyPig 3h ago

AI is good at summarising things concisely

1

u/Sudden-Money7836 3h ago

So laziness? Got it.

7

u/MrDabb 6h ago

Who invented the platform that runs the World Wide Web?

4

u/Snappy0 4h ago

Well one of the major technologies that allow the internet was invented by a Brit and a Pole independently.

1

u/MonorailPurple 4h ago

You're going to say ARPA, then someones going to ask who invented the technologies ARPA relied on, and thats when you'll realise theres something like 40 nationalities involved because no, it wasnt 'just' the US or 'just' someone else.

4

u/bomber991 6h ago

This explains why the Supreme Court decided that Al Gore didn’t win the 2000 presidential election.

1

u/ibidanon 4h ago

...in a decision not a single 'justice' would sign, and which can never be used as precedent. most don't know that there was supposed to FINally be an investigation into the stolen election the week of '9/11.' but as the buildings fell into their footprints, gore told us we had to fuggedabowdit, unite, and move forward. but everything's cool, because diebold is now called 'dominion!'

u/RespectfullySir 4h ago

Most of the technology behind tweets is made by Americans in the US. Europeans shouldn't blame themselves, American researchers and developers would have come up with something without European contribution a bit later anyway.

u/BerettaFranchi 7h ago

On an American computer? To run on American Internet?

19

u/sonyfuchs 7h ago

Mine is chinese.

-27

u/BerettaFranchi 7h ago

The chips in it aren't. LoL.

25

u/sonyfuchs 7h ago

No, they are from other parts of Asia.

-24

u/BerettaFranchi 7h ago

19

u/ishetaltijdvoorbier 7h ago

thats odd the US has never had a significant chip fab industry

1

u/victorged 6h ago

That's just inaccurate, the US were the predominant semiconductor power for a long time, even into the 2010's intel US fabs were still dominant. There's a reason so much cutting edge chip design is still US based (AMD, NVIDIA, Qualcomm, etc), and that the US has major global leaders in wafer fabrication and deposition like applied materials and KLA.

The world wouldn't be able to make chips without American companies the exact same way America wouldn't be able to make chips without the rest of the world.

10

u/Saetherith 6h ago

Chips are primarily made in Taiwan and netherlands lol, even in American made computers.

0

u/BerettaFranchi 6h ago

So not China?

3

u/stachulec 5h ago

not US either

2

u/sonyfuchs 5h ago

Like I told in other asian parts.

0

u/BerettaFranchi 5h ago

You said it's Chinese. You think all Asian are Chinese?

16

u/ishetaltijdvoorbier 7h ago

those are built in korea with dutch machines lol

5

u/NNiekk 7h ago

And what are those chips made in, pray tell?

2

u/Malorum666 6h ago

Potatoes

1

u/NNiekk 6h ago

Pfffffff

23

u/Special-Bet1141 7h ago

Chinese computer actually. America doesnt make computers

16

u/bmson 7h ago

You should read about the global hardware supply chain. Netherlands and Taiwan are arguably the most important players in modern computing, along with Linus Torvalds (Finland) and Daniel Stenberg (Sweden) being the one man army they are.

5

u/thecakeisalienunoit 6h ago

In it's modern form invented by Konrad Zuse, a German. Standing on the shoulders of the English, who in turn... Etc etc.

4

u/LrdRyu 6h ago

It is funny to see how little people from the usa are in this list

2

u/Snappy0 4h ago

A lot of what the USA "invented", is usually the work on foreigners working in the US, or stolen technology.
