It doesn’t do what it was sold as. These idiots will say “it never was supposed to fly! It just blows out jets of air! Only idiots thought it could fly!”
to be fair youre truly an idiot if you think it flies. so like you might check yourself on who you think is the idiot in this scenario lol
everyone who watched the video is well aware its controlled bursts of air. he even clearly said for short intervals. it doesnt maintain flight - noone said it did. but you implied it was sold to so.... again youre the one with the misunderstanding
It's a response to a response to my comment, about a Tesla car with thrusters, and the original guy says that people will not get what they paid for, a car that flies. This guy says it's got thrusters, it's not flying. I'm saying that's a semantic argument, and ultimately doesn't matter, nobody will get a car that flies, or with thrusters, and he asks what I'm arguing.
I'm arguing that nobody will get a car with thrusters, and it's right there in the comment.
Ah, I see. In the way that you still need to be paying attention as the driver? That makes sense, but I feel like there's probably legal reasons for this.
This summer I got the opportunity to use it and I didn't need to correct it on an hour+ drive which was about 30% city/side roads and the rest interstate.
Ultimately Tesla made a mistake using cameras for self driving, and actually fell behind. If you look at what it takes for Waymo to do fully self driving cars, it's got cameras and LiDAR, and a big ass AI stack, radar too.
Elon just lied and got to a decent point to inflate the stock price, position himself as some self-made genius, and never delivered. All the other car manufacturers are at roughly the same point.
He does it on everything, even if this was actually possible with current technology (it isn't, the physics just doesn't work), modern infrastructure isn't designed for flying cars, and there would need to be huge changes to infrastructure anyway.
You're not getting a flying car, and even if you were, it wouldn't come from Elon. He'll take your deposit and use it to inflate stock price without ever producing what you paid for.
Waymos get stuck all the time my friend works remotely and drives them around when they get confused or stuck happens more than you think. Been in many Tesla's road tripping through Cali they do a really good job "self driving but I would never buy one they have no soul
Wait, is Tesla/Elon actually insinuating that the car sold to consumers will be able to do the stunts in the video? I just assumed it was check out the new car and here’s a cool video of it doing tricks for marketing reasons, via extra tech we added on
There are 2 versions with thrusters, one that has them for acceleration, and one that jumps. Apparently the jumping version is invite only, but the other one is available for $250,000.
Not necessarily a mistake and wouldn't say Tesla fell behind at all. LiDAR is an extra layer of protection, but Tesla would argue it is unnecessary. If the cameras and the software are capable, LiDAR becomes more of a redundancy. I think what gets lost sometimes is the self-driving in Tesla is advancing because of the software and that software gets improved upon constantly and even more so with the addition of AI. I've been in both a ton, and while both are impressive, Teslas being able to drive on any road instead of restricted areas shows it hasn't fallen behind at all.
They still have problems with poorly designed parking lots with inconsistent exits. I was in a Tesla when it decided to turn left from a right turn only lane and almost get in an accident.
The non lidar approach boxes them in. They cannot achieve the context they need for FSD when road lines become faded or not painted it shits the bed. Even Waymo’s with lidar struggle with this.
It's just some adaptive cruise control with automatic braking and stuff. Like many modern cars, it makes it so you have very little to do in the highway but for city driving it's just about useless.
Full self driving isn't really possible with today's technology, might never be, but companies like Maymo rely heavily on LIDAR which is why they have those weird spinny things on the top. Many years ago Elon said they're ugly and they'll only use cameras. That's just never going to be possible. I'm pretty sure waymo and the like also rely heavily on human input when the cars inevitably get stuck
It's not though. I've used adaptive cruise control when working at a Volvo dealership. Whatever it's called that their Model Y had makes turns and changed lanes as well.
I'm no Elon, or even Tesla fan. I also don't care what it's called. As someone who rides motorcycles and enjoys driving, especially off road or harsher conditions, I'm still always extra cautious around any Tesla, Waymo, or similar vehicles.
I'm just pointing out that the statement that it's "Just some adaptive cruise control with automatic braking and stuff." Or that it "...makes it so you have very little to do in the highway but for city driving it's just about useless." is absolutely false.
Meh I guess I don't know any tesla drivers and haven't given a shit about them in several years so maybe it's a lot better now. I find that hard to believe though... Also I'm in Canada and I'm absolutely certain it'll never be able to function in winter

Tesla owners have been running on autopilot for years.
