But the flying car demo sure made people stop talking about the same day release of the Musk documentary.

Contextually perfectly meme

88

Elon Musk is a warmongering pedophile.

10

u/murdock_RL 3h ago

Please do tell.. what’s it called and where do I watch

7

u/Much_Profit8494 2h ago edited 1h ago

It's simply called "Musk".

It's only available in "select theaters" but good luck finding a theater showing it because it's four and a half hours long.

When are Tesla owners getting autopilot?

300

u/eltaconobueno 5h ago

Tesla owners have been running on autopilot for years.

36

u/b1ack1323 3h ago

They are talking about FSD and you know it. Which they don’t have and will never get.

8

u/standard-issue-man 2h ago

Yeah, if your autopilot was a 15 year old driving for the first time

10

u/Esketamine77 1h ago

Just have to babysit the Full.self.driving car the whole time so you don't get sent into a retaining wall or steered off a cliff is all. No biggie

→ More replies (32)

6

u/loikyloo 2h ago

They sort of have them already its just a case of the regulation to use them means you can't use them in most countries.

5

u/cookeryandwookery 1h ago

They were sold a lie. Like this bullshit is a lie. But you can give Elon $250k today for it.

Or the cybertruck that didn’t look like a dumpster. Or high speed rail. Or mars by 2030. How are people still accepting these lies and paying for them?

That was actually a real stunt some madman pulled off. Way more legit than this flying car

7

u/-skyrocketeer- 4h ago

The Astro Spiral Jump. To this day, still one of the best stunts in a James Bond film.

2

u/ootski 2h ago

Right up there with they guy running across real alligators.

To be fair, if there were ever a highway that would prompt drivers to use this, it’d be that stretch of I-95.

It was on german news yesterday, nobody said AI, but even if its real: A quick stunt is one thing but you won't even be able to do this a few times in a row without a refill.

131

u/CarbonInTheWind 5h ago edited 4h ago

It's a purpose built stunt car that weighs a tiny fraction of a real car. No one will ever drive that car outside of a stunt track. They're using the same tricks as energy drink companies to artificially pump the stock price in spite of the fact that Tesla revenue is flat.

47

u/cmarkcity 5h ago

I knew a ton of people who worked in Lights Motors Action in Disney and got to go behind the scenes and see those stunt cars. They all look normal from the outside, but on the inside every single one of them was completely gutted outside of the specific adjustments made for each stunt.

What we saw was doable by a purpose built stunt cars but no way in hell by an actual consumer grade car with entertainment systems and ass warmers.

9

u/couchcushion7 4h ago

fun note on those specific cars - a few of them were built "backwards" internally as im sure you saw. they would do all their stunts in "reverse" in the show. but in reality the cockpit / "car" were just installed backwards inside the body. tripped me out as a kid

2

u/freedfg 26m ago

It wasn't even a car.

It was an RC shell. I wouldn't even doubt if it was a scale model.

→ More replies (10)

4

u/F3nix123 3h ago

Also, there is no way in hell you can be in the car while it does the tricks. So its really just a crazy expensive drone that’ll do a 5 second trick and then you need to wait for the tank to fill up again.

And yet again one of Elon’s marketing moves has worked out perfectly. He’s once again got the whole world talking about his company and his cars. And as per usual some smooth brains actually believe it will happen.

8

u/Quirky-Skin 5h ago

At this point I just assume everyones portfolio from big to small is tied to Tesla/space x etc.

It's the only explanation why everyone is fine with half ass ideas that arent at all practical at scale driving stock price.

It's clearly real. A physical car drove upside-down, then did a kick-flip over several other physical vehicles.

What, you think the whole thing was CGI?

8

u/YOU_TALK_TOO_MUCH420 3h ago

No one will be able to afford the “ rocket model “, as there are 3 levels you can buy. Plus, the contract says they may only be driven according to there state/country’s laws. And they don’t “ fly “ , they boost to slow down your rate of descent from a fall.
I can’t imagine the insurance payments on this thing, and the $ you’d have to pay for a special track to go to and test out its capabilities.

5

u/TankApprehensive3053 2h ago

The lowest level will have mandatory $50K deposit. It doesn't have the rockets or other features.

4

50

u/LickinThighs2 3h ago

People literally won't be able too drive them, anyways, that's kind of the thing

A whole new layer of road and care legislation would need to be created to even regulate legally how a car that can fly CAN drive, where it can fly, etc etc, and also just the degree of overhead hazards already in most cities (power lines, lights, signs), and billion things one could crash into and the liability insurance involved, etc etc

Like, guys, the roads and world literally are not designed around flying vehicles, and flying vehicles would need active controlled routes and so on and ATC of somekind to keep billionaires from driving willy nilly and crashing into one another

This is a lot like the 'we're goona have a colony on mars in the decade' shit Musk pushes. It's a tech demo and has no real application, it isn't really something people can 'use,' and is also actively something with so many fail points that the average consumer can't actually access or buy through the sheer cost of what liabilities and so on would make licensing / insuring shit like that would be

I remember back in the 90s and instructor explaining to us that, while flying cars are cool, practically actually having flying cars would be chaos, for how bad of drivers folks already are and now adding the layer of verticality into things too. Shit would be chaos, aint no practical means to really do it without roads alone for the sheer scale of accidents it would cause.

Fuck man people on boats regularly smash into one another still going full tilt over a lake or something and that is still way less vectors than the risk flying cars have lol, we cannot practically actually use flying cars at all, this is a stunt to pump stock prices, not actually release and move a product to market.

27

u/Duffy1978 3h ago

No insurance company on the planet would insure this absolute massive liability

4

u/LickinThighs2 3h ago

Exactly lol, there are just to many, idk, holes in where and how they can at all be safely used by any kind of general public, that I only see it being impossible to really justify lol. Way to dangerous, we're going to have these bricks just flying through living rooms and grocery stores if we unleashed them to the people lol.

→ More replies (1)

8

u/TheB3rn3r 2h ago

Agreed!

To anyone thinking they can just buy a flying car… you realize people suck at simply driving right now right? Imagine giving them the verticality to really mess things up..

Pilots have to go through a TON of training for a reason.

The dream that one day everyone would have a flying car is just that, a dream. Unless somehow all the regulatory authorities really step down and roll over… this would lead to a surge in all kinds of insurances as well since now we’d have to worry about some baffoon flying their Tesla roadster into our home’s roof… or imagine a car landing on another car… it’s a disaster waiting to happen.

Cool tech if it’s real but outside of trying to reduce friction to increase 0-60 capabilities, I don’t see an application for this and the other part is what about emergency stopping as well in this mode?

3

u/southass 2h ago

Or imagine there is some obstacle or debris in the road and this thing decides to go flying when you are driving under a multi lane overpass 💀

Its a stunt. But there is a really awesome car out there called the mcmurty speirling thats worth your attention.

You're right. The US Government would never approve this! Right?

9

u/VoidJuiceConcentrate 5h ago

It won't even get to that point. Whatever he showcased, he'll never get the amount of thrust required to perform those maneuvers and also have a functional car.

Either it has to be entirely rocket engines and fuel with no room for a ground drivetrain, or it'll be twice the size of a regular car to accommodate rocket engines and fuel.

4

u/Shot-Artist5013 2h ago

I'd like to see them repeat all of those moves during the day in full sunlight.

2

u/maury587 1h ago

2

u/JoeHio 25m ago

I mean if you think people suck at driving now just wait till they try to flip their car over yours to steal a parking spot.

9

u/StampedeJones1 5h ago

The version they demonstrated is an "invite only" purchase and a track car. Tesla actually ever producing it is another story.

2

u/CalHudsonsGhost 3h ago

Did they ever produce the original Roadster? I’ve never seen one.

2

u/Pimpwerx 3h ago

No. And realistically there will probably only ever be the base model, assuming they ever make it. The other versions can't be street legal. The dumbass thrusters aside, you can't really get a fan car legal. All that air is being exhausted somewhere and usually backwards. It's a hazard to motorcyclists, and would just be a general nuisance to anyone stuck following.

Also, it needs a skirt to work. The demo did not show one. If I had to guess, that car was propelled by magnets or cables, because I have a hard time believing it could grip such a tight radius loop. If you research how McMurtry built their skirt, it's really cool tech. But it's really only practical on a track surface that can seal well and doesn't have tons of bumps. The radius of that loop should have been enough to crack a seal on any skirt that isn't super-flexible. And again, we just don't see the skirt.

Now, it's possible that all those boxes on the undercarriage are ducts that have some extending skirts that can better conform to contours in a road's surface. But that would easily be the coolest tech they could show, and it would actually be practical for track settings, as opposed to the stupid RCS thrusters. But they didn't focus on that at all.

So my conclusion is that this is a hollowed out shell with some thrusters, which is why you have no interior camera shots of it flying around. Then they might have a showroom model with an actual interior and nonfunctional parts slapped on.

This is all to distract from some earnings mishap, I'm sure.

Right? Joking aside what even would be the IRL implications and uses of this even if all features are completely real and available?

You’re not cliff diving, blasting off from a traffic jam or to flipping in to grab that parking spot.

Even for the super rich with more money than sense what would they make like a trick course for the car?

2

u/OnwardChimera38 4h ago edited 4h ago

Bottom line it just won't be road legal. You probably won't even be allowed to have it in your own garage. It's going to be stored at a facility and you're basically paying for the privilege to drive it at that facility, or maybe certain tracks.

Edit: So I looked it up, there are 3 or 4 variants, 3 of them have this thruster shit and one of them can do the jump thing I think, they will never be road legal and do not qualify as aircraft. One of them is meant for track use. The performance variant is the only one that doesn't do any of that, and is also the only one that MIGHT be road legal.

The thing is… even if it is real and they did plug this car with rockets. It will never be safe for standard road compliance, so no one would be able to drive this normally. It’s nothing but a show car. Basically, an item to put on the shelf.

u/Subject_Issue6529 4h ago

Its an empty shell.

u/Tiny-Albatross518 10m ago

Here’s the thing that makes it work:

Americans are super dumb.

They’re so busy worrying about litter boxes at school and somalis eating their cat that they don’t even have time to check the mailbox for their DOGE dividend cheque.

This will completely work. They saw him puff a joint with Rogan. He’s their Tony Stark.

Expect a huge stock jump.

u/88mphbish 4h ago

It's shows like THE JETSONS that showed flying cars.

Dude, we can barely drive collectively as a species on the ROAD.

Now you add a whole other dimension, literally. We go from 2 D to now 3D. In the air.

What happens when someone throws some trash at 2 thousand feet and it lands on someone's head.

What happens with a pile up jam and how do you maneuver around with crashing into someone.

How can we trust any automation that requires connections when something fault could happen and BOOM you're dead.

Realistically flying cars won't work except in our dreams lol

2

u/SheepleAreSheeple 2h ago

It's... Not a flying car. Why do I have to point this out? It was a tech demo. It was showing that the tubby edgelord decided to throw millions into R&D to make a kick flip car. The fact you are posting that this is an example of a flying car is kinda scary. This is not claiming to be a flying car. Don't misunderstand, I am NOT trying to defend Elon here. I am trying to get you to see that you're wasting your time debunking a flying car. It is not that.

u/couchcushion7 6h ago

The most mindblowing thing to me has been seeing the people who dont understand whats happening.

No this is never gonna be a production car. And its never gonna come out in 2028. And a big F U to elon musk all around, just for clarity here.

But yeah, a real car did that. And its really not that insane. I mean its wild but - if you wrap your head around the tech spacex has already pioneered- this is truly not that deep.

u/Repulsive_Guy_1234 2h ago

A real drone in a shape of a car, not a car. Guess why the windows are blacked out. And I doubt the car has internal components other then required for a 1 minute stunt.

They weren't even able to release the Roadster 2 and that was a normal electric car. Even if we say that this is only a showpiece, the real one won't have that, the fact still stands that they have been promising the Roadster 2 since 2017 and now they present a completly new model with a different design without ever building the previous one.

6

u/I3lackI2ogue 5h ago

The issue is it's a misrepresentation of what this vehicle can do, it's not a real production car that did this stunt, it's a mock up stunt fabrication, basically a movie prop.

Until I see someone get into or out of that thing, and see it drive more than a few feet under its own power, I am classifying it as 'car-shaped object'

2

u/Reddragon0585 5h ago

Someone did get out of it though?

4

u/couchcushion7 4h ago

he's not sufficiently convinced it wasnt a clip cut / "sleight of hand" trick if you will.

I'm sorry but there's enough dangerous idiots on the road, we don't need them flying through the sky too. They hit a traffic jam are they just going to yolo uncalculated kickflip boost attempt over it to get home quicker ?

2

u/SleezyYeets 4h ago

Trust me there are already plenty of dangerous idiots in the sky as well. I know ive encountered them up in the air as im sure most pilots have.

Anyone with a brain knows this, so why are you saying it?

2

u/Life_Head_5366 3h ago

For those without.... thought someone with a brain could figure that one

People who preordered and paid deposits for a Tesla Roadster back in 2017 still haven't had a car delivered to them lol

3

u/CrayonsTasteLikeSky 5h ago

Its all just smoke and mirrors to make the stock go up

2

u/Kuuzie 4h ago

its -7% on the week. I don't know why people are saying its a stock pump.

3

u/Bloodcloud079 5h ago

It’s a really cool stunt car.

There is no way anything like it will be both street legal and insurable.

2

u/SalamanderGlad9053 4h ago

And noone is claiming it will be.

3

u/Pandemoniusanus 4h ago

That pos is just a prop. You can see the reinforced chassis when it rolls. Hollywood has been doing this for decades. They practice the stunt with the chassis then when they get it figured out they bolt a car shell to it for the shot.

u/StaticSystemShock 3h ago

Everything coming out of dumbass Elon's mouth is overinflated horseshit.

3

u/sickfoo7 3h ago

I thought we knew it was just a very clever marketing stunt? a neat showcase to create a buzz for the street legal car?

3

u/PersonalityIll9476 3h ago

Do people actually think this is going into production? Are people that dumb?

3

u/Bandit_the_kat 2h ago

ironically getting a car to 330 mph isn't that impossible (people routinely get custom built vehicles well past 330 mph on drag strips, salt flats, and dyno runs), the big issue is getting the tires to survive the speed and finding a road long and smooth enough for a production car to hit those speeds. Granted, Tesla famously overpromises on a lot of things, so take what they say with a grain of salt.

3

u/_Veprem_ 2h ago

Pretty sure this was more of a SpaceX commercial than a Tesla commercial. The practical application of thrusters that precise is obviously space equipment.

6

u/theMoist_Towlet 6h ago

I mean, arnt concept vehicles a thing most car companies do?

5

u/longsite2 3h ago

Very few of these will ever be built, probably 10-20 at the most in this variant.
The "thrust" version will probably have a hundred in the world, whilst the regular version will sell a few hundred to a couple thousand.

It's a big stunt to say "we built a flying car", it's cool and the engineering is actually amazing, but it is a stunt car and they aren't denying that either.

The fact that they never shipped the previous one, took nearly a decade to ship the Semi, then compare the technical and legal challenges that will come with this. I doubt we'll see one delivered before this decade is out.

But people love to defend anything Elon does, and some people hate on it because it is Elon. I think the engineering is great, although purely non-practical (like that chinese car that can jump). But it's tied to a guy with questionable aims and friends.

7

u/Rudresh27 5h ago

it's probably real. But I do not see this being street legal in any way. It's also very impractical.

Wait, this isn’t a circus gag to get people interested in Tesla? People actually think this is going to market?

I'M A CAR JUNKIE. I'VE OWNED OVER 100. I DIDN'T EVEN WASTE MY TIME WATCHING THIS CLIP ON THE NEWS. I LIVE IN REALITY. RELEASE THE EPSTEIN FILES NOT FAKEASS FLYING CARS!!!

7

u/Opposite_Sea_6257 3h ago

Don’t look at this person’s profile.

5

u/Remarkable_Peach_374 3h ago

Oh God why did you say that I LOOKED

3

u/Hateinyoureyes 6h ago

I’ll take the Epstein files instead.

2

u/Interesting_Okra_902 5h ago

There is no country that will ever allow these things in public traffic.

2

u/Forest-Ninja2469 5h ago

You have all been Musked

2

u/TheDamned1333 5h ago

I remember when Brownlee used to suck up everything Elon spunked out. I wonder what brought about the change where he no longer shills for the ole nazi

2

u/Fragrant-Anywhere489 5h ago

$250,000 for a go-kart that's gonna take me to Mars is a bargain! Where do I sign?

2

u/chinmakes5 5h ago

I love how they say this is totally real, it will be here soon, oh but not street legal.

2

u/Yung_Cheebzy 5h ago

It’s a marketing stunt. Nothing more. A good distraction for them very real fact that him and Trump cutting starlink out of spite, cost innocent lives.

2

u/freetotebag 4h ago

Man even the corporate lapdog doesn’t buy it?

2

u/TheLurkingMenace 4h ago

I'm still not convinced it wasn't AI.

2

u/Jamusomama12 4h ago

Again just a marketing ploy that you "smart" people are falling for. It is just a car that they strapped boosters to, so people keep posting about it lol

2

u/King_Vrad 4h ago

It's another stock pump, it's another empty promise to distract from FSD, automated robots, colonization of Mars, and all the other things he failed to do, and probably most importantly to Elon it's something to keep people from talking about the documentary about him that released in theaters on the 9th.

2

u/Sapphfire0 4h ago

Thinking it’s real and thinking people will drive this are very different

2

u/BigOldRobotX 4h ago

That'll never be street legal. Maybe a non "flying" version but not this. So it's all a gimic for publicity.

2

u/matycauthon 4h ago

boy have i got news for you about how dumb the masses are.... and how dumb one must be to not have already known this....

2

u/Spelunking-Uranus 4h ago

MB is just disappointed he can't drive one at 90mph past a school.

Fuck that dude.

2

u/Shikabane_Sumi-me 3h ago

You know what would be the funniest thing ever. If Elon pulled a Stockton Rush and went to personally prove the new Tesla himself.

2

u/Charming-Standard-84 3h ago

At least he'd be able to fly over a school zone

2

u/Junbot_awkwardfinder 3h ago

Later in a few years time Marques Brownlee will be seen complaining about owning that said car

2

u/Skhemattos 3h ago

I've been waiting for the day my peers on the road can transform their vehicles into ballistic missiles. Rush hour is going to be tight, tight, tight

2

u/GalaganCoffee 2h ago

Never claimed it did go 330mph, that's the goal.

No need to make shit up with this guy  because there will be truths to skewer

2

u/A_Random_Sidequest 2h ago

it's basically an empty shell tech demo, with less battery that can't go 10 miles kkk

it will NEVER be on production line as that...

they might put 1 or 2 in the back to help accelerate, which will be a very small amount. usuless even.

and not even the version without any thruster will cost only 50k lol expect 150k+

2

u/IAmRules 1h ago

Company knowns for publicity stunts does publicity stunt and people in disbelief.

I am still not buying a tesla simply because I dont trust anything attached to elon, doge was a confirmation he's an idiot.

2

u/ShadowBlade55 1h ago

The negative pressure system is something that is noteworthy, it exists in another car already.

The tank for those thrusters is like driving with a fucking bomb right behind your seat...
