Suburban Legends for sure! Upbeat and fun. And they cover Disney songs. No brass, but Patent Pending have some songs I got into after seeing RBF.

IIRC Suburban Legends hold the world record for most concerts played in a year. They would play multiple times per day at Disney resorts. They're one of the few bands allowed to play full live covers of Disney songs.

I bought a comp that had âStuffâ on it when I was young. My mom did not like the song. Not sure why.

Haahhaha I used to play my mom Guttermouth and show her the lyrics. She was mortified. đ€Ł

I am not a big fan of the "Mozarella Sticks" side of ska but if there's one band who does that sound right without being embarrassing it's the Planet Smashers

Forces of Evil.
And a bit more seriously, suburban legends. Very similar style

Not sure what the lyrics are half the time since a good portion of the songs are in Japanese, but Kemuri fits the RBF vibe IMO. Especially âMr Smilingâ and âPositive Mental Attitudeâ.

Baldhead are a UK ska punk band and they have songs about getting high and petting dogs, and one about how the animals in Paw Patrol are class traitors and exist in an overtly capitalist dictatorship

u/Certain-Trainer3591 7d ago
Yeah just checked them out after another post on this sub already one of my favourite UK ska bands

The Aquabats, The Planet Smashers, The Toasters (kinda),The Hippos (super underrated ska band), Five Iron Frenzy is a Christian ska band but they have a ton of goofy songs.

u/WilliZara 7d ago
+1 to the Hippos! The main song writer later became a producer and let the Plain White Tee's. Head Are Gonna Roll is a fantastic album.

Yes, I love every single song on this album and it makes me wish more ska bands to use synthesizer in their music.

Iâm surprised people havenât mentioned - Slow Gherkin, Dance Hall Crashers, Save Ferris, The Conspiracy (deeper cut) Siren Six, Jeffries Fan ClubâŠ.Iâm not saying all these bands ONLY did cheeseball ska but theres a lot of corny later 90âs punk ska bands

u/Mental-Minimum7255 7d ago
Less than jake, random hand, jb conspiracy, lightyear

u/Sophyska 7d ago
Much as I love the UK folks there I wouldnât say theyâre silly billy ska punk particularly
4
u/martyhol 7d ago
Yeah. The later JBC stuff in particular couldn't be more unlike RBF.
2
u/Mental-Minimum7255 7d ago
Well yeah the later stuff is just howards alias part 2 but still has its cheesey elements tracks like falling down and egos at the door especially
3
u/Mental-Minimum7255 7d ago
Lightyear arent silly billy ska? Have you listened to them/seen them live?
2
u/Sophyska 7d ago
I have, theyâre middle aged now so the silly billying is definitely a bit less than back in the day, though I will concede there are some amusing song names
1
u/martyhol 7d ago
I'd say that Lightyear have their fair share of serious political commentary masquerading as silly songs, while RBF songs are often just... silly. I say this as an unabashed fan of both.

u/Automatic-Arm-532 7d ago
I wouldn't call RBF ska-punk, they're just straight up 3rd wave
1
u/Candid-Ad443 7d ago
when I googled it it said thise are like, the same thing? idk man.. I'm new here and I've never really understood genres...

u/Automatic-Arm-532 7d ago
Ska punk has more punk sound and lyrics like Against All Authority, Link 80, Omnigone, Suicide Machines. I don't hear any punk influence in RBF

u/Shaaagbark 7d ago
Third wave is what the 90s sounded like. Ska punk is more like rancid, operation ivy,
Choking victim, no-cash, etcThey are not the same.
1
u/Dismal_Equal7401 7d ago
The Toasters are the poster Chikd of third wave ska. Op Ivy, then Rancid (some of the same band leaders) really were the birth of Ska punk.

Pain (my fav album of theirs is "wonderful beef"). And the more recent version of the same band is called Salvo.
2
u/machoestofmen 6d ago
Was looking for this one; Salvo has I think officially retired now, they did a farewell concert, but there are individual members who still do music stuff.

Pickled Dick (UK I first heard of in 2003 or so) and Smoke Like a Fish/Catch it Kebabs if you can find any of their stuff too

Suburban Rhythm. The cd compilation is long out of print, but you can find the songs on YouTube and online. They were the biggest influence in Reel Big Fish! When Jake Kline quit the band, Aaron Barrett auditioned to be SRâs guitar player, but they ultimately chose Scott Moran, which in retrospect they mostly thought was a mistake. Scottâs a great guy, but it wasnât a good fit.

Iâve been enjoying Devon Kay and The Solutions - a little bit RBF, a little bit Goldfinger, a little bit Big D/Kids Table.

This album was produced by Dave Irish and features collaborations from Aaron, Ryland, Scott and many other musicians :) it helped tide me over during RBF's hiatus: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_kN8wwAySAR2Va4BwzYGg3MkPwWWlP1A2U&si=IRdsvUvwloC3H_gB

The pietasters were a good time but they lean more toward the college humor side imho. Funny songs about drinking and girls.

Idk if anyone has mentioned them but Mustard Plug is a classic
