I did a bad thing - was covered in mosquito bites and scratched myself raw... How best to fix this?
reddit.comHello, hoping to get some advice here. 2 weeks ago I got absolutely eaten alive by mosquitoes and my legs were covered in itchy bites. Being unable to go out to the store for anti-itch cream and just being overwhelmed by the amount of them, I scratched myself fairly raw over a couple days. I started by using aveeno anti-itch cream several times a day (which is basically calamine lotion) and I obtained a 1% hydrocortisone cream that helped a lot with the itching. I took anti histamines and advil for the inflammation.
Now the itch is improving, I think it's more dry skin than mosquito itch at this point. I've been moisturizing with aveeno normal lotion pretty much every 3 hours/whenever I get itchy I put cream on and it helps. Things are improving slowly, used to be big areas of thickened scaly cobblestone redness and a few scabs/raised areas under the scabs that I hope won't scar too badly. Now my skin is smoother overall, not perfect but smoother, but red and blotchy still. I also started using La Roche Posay's EFFACLAR A.Z. GEL-CREAM which is 10% Azelaic Acid, Salicylic Acid, and Hyaluronic Acid twice a day. And I started using their MelaB3 body lotion twice a day which is LHA and niacinamide. Then moisturizer on top of that and throughout the day.
I'm starting to get some little peeling areas which I hope is a good thing. The scarring wouldn't even bother me too much but is there anything I can do to get rid of the red blotches? I was looking at the aveeno colloidal oatmeal cream for eczema. Would love some advice so I can show my legs in public again one day. Thank you!
Tl;Dr Product list so far - hydrocortisone cream (not using anymore unless really itchy), calamine lotion (not really using anymore), moisturizer/hand cream (lots!), 10% Azelaic Acid, Salicylic Acid, and Hyaluronic Acid cream (twice a day), LHA + niacinamide cream (twice a day).
