Rental Car

Hey everyone!

I’m planning on visiting Skye later this fall, taking the bus from Inverness to Portree and hopefully renting a car on the island before taking the same bus back. Any tips or advice on where/who to rent from?

Why not hire in Inverness? The A87 is no worse than driving on the island

Ill look into it, if its inconvenient to rent on-island then ill take a look at the airport too! It was more of a “i want to look out the window on the ride over” kind of thing.

I would recomment hiring directly from Inverness / Inverness Airport (did it in June). It's an easy ride to Portree. And unlimited kilometers is prices ok. Note: Isle of Skye are more charging stations that gas station, so consider an EV :)

Plus you'd have a bit more comfort carrying your luggage

EV's are definitely a no-go on Skye. Stick with petrol.

I will have to disagree here :). In june, chargers were easier to find than gas-station. Might be different in high-season though.

We just finished our road trip. Rented in Edinburgh and did the drive out in two legs stopping in Clovullin for a night. If you’re not used to right hand drive, I found the drive on the M90 a nice intro before the single carriage ways on Skye.
