DISCUSSION Excessive kryptonite use

Hey guys, how are you? I'm reviewing the series and realized that everywhere Clark goes there are meteor stones, both refined and in the raw material, can anyone tell me why the excessive use of the stones?

They are everywhere due to the meteor shower.

But I think that in my view they should have mannered, because even in places that don't make sense there are meteor stones

It's because it's a tv show. That's really the only reason besides what the commentor above already said.

They basically used it as a way to introduce all these different people gaining different kinds of temporary powers throughout the series, and why it was all happening in Smallville and to his classmates/towns people.

Honestly from a storytelling perspective, it was genius

Okay, in this part that the meteor stones give powers was brilliant, but man you find meteor stone even in places that make no sense to be there

If they are in places they arent supposed to be, blame luthorcorp, they are somehow involved😭

Basically because if not for those, clark would end the episode within 5 min.

But I think he could have other ways to challenge him, you know? Just like I was reviewing with the boy in the comment above, as there are characters affected by meteor stones, this would already make the fight more balanced

Personally I think they should have hung up the name meteor rocks at a certain point. When they have been around for 20 years scientists would have surely named them.

And what name could it be?

It's Smallville. Don't overthink it. Instead, just realize it's very funny, actually, when meteor rocks show up in bizarre circumstances and give people even more bizarre powers. Never gonna not laugh when I remember the kryptonite infused Stride bubblegum that gives whoever chews it stretchy bubblegum powers for as long as it's fresh.

Hahahahaha isn't it? But regardless of everything, this series lives in my heart

I mean, kryptonite is the remnants of the PLANET of krypton. There’s gunna be a lot of it, and even tho the meteor shower was heavier in Smallville it could have gone anywhere

In one of the episode commentaries in the S2 DVD , series co-creator Miles Millar said that without Kryptonite, Superman would just come in and save the day all the time, which was boring, so they needed a way to weaken him.

I find this to be a gross misunderstanding of the character, but that’s just what the creator thought, and they ended up making some good television, so .

It makes sense, even because he would have a lot of advantage

So I haven’t really read the comics. So while watching the show I decided to google why doesn’t Superman just wear some type of lead suit to protect from kryptonite. And the answer was:(paraphrasing) he has worn a lead suit but doesn’t really need to because he rarely comes into contact with kryptonite.

So i mean i get why Miles would say that but the comics went for a long time and if they were able to create compelling stories and challenges without always having to use kryptonite i think they could’ve done the same. It’s almost kind of lazy writing. When you can’t think of a way to challenge Clark just throw some kryptonite his way

That's the point I want to get to, ok that he would have a certain advantage with the enemies, but I think he could have other ways to challenge Clark, you know? Not only using kryptonite

Or television so bad it's occasionally good.

My favorite was when there was kryptonite in the golf course or whatever lol like at that point I felt like they jumped the shark with finding ways to deliver kryptonite so Clark can dramatically wilt and faint like a telenovela actress and that was like s1e5 lol but nevertheless I’m enjoying the show (first watch bth)

Hahaha that's what I'm saying man, they're some places that don't make any sense. I'm jealous of you who are watching the first time, okay? Hahahaha you will like it a lot

The meteor rocks were scattered everywhere throughout Smallville. Not to mention, Clark hadn’t fully mastered his powers yet and was still trying to figure them out.

But I kept wondering why it even appeared in China, you know?

Rocks through space that originate from the same point don't nessacarily travel at the same velocity. Whilst the drag from the ship created a direction some came slower so a few hours of travel would let the earth rotate

You should probably watch an episode and find out.

Meteor… shower…?

1

u/Jc090009 Kryptonian 8d ago

Mas por que não há tanta pedra de meteoro nos filmes quanto na série?

2

It’s an adaptation of the 21 century. The showrunners explain this in interviews. When Kal-El landed in the 50s in Superman: The Movie, there weren’t satellites in orbit.

Jump ahead to… 1987, no way in hell he’d be unseen by a satellite and traced directly to Smallville.

The meteor shower acts as two main plot points of the show:
1) to camouflage his ship’s arrival to Earth and
2) give Clark a weakness. Otherwise, he’d be invincible every episode and it’d get boring pretty fast.

there's deposits of kryptonite all over and all around smallville. Kal'eL was sent to earth right before krypton exploded.

Others already said it, but kryptonite is just radioactive pieces of krypton.

Word of all the strange abilities of Kryptonite infusion would spread quickly, and not simply every Tom, Dick and Harriet but every baddie government and military would descend upon the area, collecting as much of the stuff as they could gather. Kryptonite of one color or another would be so virtually everywhere that Clark wouldn't be able to go much of anywhere without the stuff affecting him. He would need to become "Lead Man". Got to steal Marvel's "Iron Man" thunder, you know!

Lol they were everywhere the plot needed them to be

0

u/Jc090009 Kryptonian 9d ago

Do you think there could be other ways to nerf Clark? Sincere question

2

u/LowCaramel3675 Kryptonian 9d ago

In the earlier seasons it made sense that there wasn't, as the town was small and kryptonite affected people were the main setback he faced. As he started leaving Smallville yeah there should have been other things aside from kryptonite that knocked him down. I think the timeline held back a lot of potential storylines from the comics.

They eventually introduce magic as a weakness, but kryptonite is the primary way to nerf him in any media

1

u/Jc090009 Kryptonian 9d ago

But the issue of magic they didn't use so much

From what I remember
