All Soaps (Past/Present) Anyone watching old episodes/storylines?

Any viewers here who have randomly and recently started watching old soap stories/episodes what were they? Currently I'm watching the GH: Sonny shoots Carly while she gives birth to Morgan story. Anyone else find themselves watching old storylines/sagas or even episode years?

Interesting to hear how the environment was on that set from her perspective. Especially as an adult who has worked on sets to reflect as a 14 year old.... just sounds like a mess.

Discussion Stories that were "Worth The Wait"

Can anyone give me examples of stories that lasted a long time to conclude but once they did the ending made the wait worth it?

For instance in 2002, Alexis (GH) got pregnant with Sonny's baby, Ned claims he's the father. Sonny never finds out.

February 2004, Alexis confesses to Carly that Sonny is Kristina's father so now Carly knows but Sonny still doesn't until November, when Kristina gets sick and needs a transplant then Carly finally tells Sonny that Kristina is his daughter, and Sonny gets him and baby Morgan tested to see if they're matches for Kristina they're not, however Sam's baby (Baby Lila) with Sonny is and this leads us to the point where Sam agrees to induce labor for Kristina to get her baby's stem cells unfortunately she loses her child and we got that moment of Jason having to tell Sam the news. Jason/Sam 2004. Sam and Jason grow even closer in loss, Sonny kicks Carly out. All a huge Domino Effect that took 2 years to build to.

What's another soap example of stories/secrets that felt like they took forever to reach their end but the endpoint/payoff was so good the wait was worth it? Or even a flip side to it maybe stories that started strong, promising dragged a bit much and the conclusion fizzled/flopped?

One Role with more than one “defining” actor?

Are there roles that have more than one actor who has “made the role their own” or whose performances have each made distinct impressions on the character?

Some examples:
Wendy Moniz and Gina Tognoni as Dinah on GL

Krista Tesreau and Kimberley Simms as Mindy on GL

Carl T. Evans and Rick Hearst as Alan-Michael on GL

Any others?

Looking for specific 1987 OLTL episode:

Hi everyone! I’m trying to pin down an exact episode number or broadcast timeframe for a specific One Life to Live studio scene from mid-to-late 1987 involving Delilah Ralston and Gabrielle Medina. If I could view the full episode, or even that scene alone, I’d be most appreciative.

The Scene Details:
Setting: Delilah’s design studio for Designs by Delilah.
Characters: Delilah (Shelly Burch), Gabrielle (Fiona Hutchison), a day-player seamstress named Renata (Kathleen Patane), and toddler character Sammi Garretson.
Action: There is a playpen set up right in the studio because Delilah is overwhelmed trying to manage her business while watching a young Sammi (who is sitting up/playing inside it). Delilah possibly picks Sammi up out of the playpen during the scene.
Key Dialogue: They are discussing business. Renata is holding a bit of fabric, looks at Delilah, and bluntly asks, "Can you afford it?" regarding the expensive materials being ordered. Gabrielle eventually schemes to takeover Designs by Delilah by late 1988.

I know 1987 isn't fully available online - not until 1988 were all episodes recorded and more easily accessible - but hopefully it lives on in a private collector's master tape or a specific character edit/compilation. Does anyone happen to know the exact month/airdate or have this week of episodes archived? Thank you!

General Hospital WATCH: Abbott Elementary Gives Love to Soaps and General Hospital [Video]

Abbott Elementary paid tribute to daytime dramas. In Wednesday’s episode of the smash ABC comedy series, the teachers gather around the television in their lounge when Melissa (Lisa Ann Walter) hushes her colleagues to watch soap operas. Melissa gets a bit of ribbing from Gregory (Tyler James Williams) and Jacob (Chris Perfetti) for watching soaps. Still, she lets them know the genre ain’t for the weak, given how much work goes into churning out five episodes a week with the attention to plots and storylines.

Melissa goes on to call daytime actors “the hardest-working actors in show business” and likens them to “teachers of Hollywood.”

All Soaps (Past/Present) The bad habit of soap opera writers redeeming rapists

Just how many rapists on soaps were redeemed?
Todd Manning, Luke Spencer, Jack Deveraux, EJ DiMera, and Jake McKinnon all come to mind. There have also been female characters who have drugged and raped male characters only to became mainstays like Chelsea Lawson on Y&R. What’s worse is that some of these characters were romantically paired with their victims.

As The World Turns I really liked Molly and Jake together on ATWT, and I hated that they killed Jake off

I actually enjoyed Molly and Jake as a couple. Their relationship grew on me, especially seeing how Jake was there for Molly and how they eventually fell in love. I loved that he accepted her past and didn’t let her insecurities about it ruin their relationship. Their wedding was sweet, and I wanted to see them have more time together as husband and wife.

Which is why I hated that they killed Jake off. 😭 Molly finally had somebody who loved her, and the writers took him away. The way he died saving her from Mary made it even more heartbreaking because he was trying to protect his wife.

I know this is a soap, and nobody is safe, but I really wish they had found another story for Jake. Molly had to deal with losing him, and his twin daughters were taken away from her afterward, too. She went through all of that just after finally getting married to him.

I would’ve loved to see more of Molly and Jake’s life together. They had so much potential, and I still hate that the show ended their relationship that way.

Anybody else miss Molly and Jake together?

All Soaps (Past/Present) Relationship Dealbreakers

Due to the ongoing nature of soaps, it’s pretty much a guarantee that all our favourite couples will inevitably break up and get back together at least once (if not more often) during their time on the show. Can you guys think of any couples you used to ship until one or more parties did something to tarnish your feelings about the relationship? Or more general examples of tropes / scenarios that would be enough to ruin a couple for you?

The only one I can think of off the top of my head is Chad and Whitney off Passions. After cheating on her with Vincent, I was completely over them as a couple and nothing would have been able to redeem them for me. On the flip side, I remember being devastated when Johnny cheated on Lulu with Maxie on GH and was desperate for them to reconcile so obviously cheating isn’t completely irredeemable to me (when it comes to soaps) as long as the cheater does enough to make up for their actions.
