Soil jar test. What kind of soil do I have ?
Been about 30 minutes.

You've got a hydrometer and are just trolling, right? I see the reference thermometer so I assume you're using Stokes' Law.

Yes, lol. ASTM D422, Type 151H.
These will classify as silty clays. Running hydrometers alongside atterbergs today and thought I’d make a silly post.

Thirty minutes? You waited too long. You can only tell at exactly 15.3 minutes and you do it by drinking the forbidden chocolate milk water. /s

I always jokingly tell my coworkers I’ll give them $20 to chug it.
I wonder if the small amount sodium hexametaphosphate used as the dispersing solution would be harmful to consume…

and it’s only like 5 grams. 100% convincing a coworker to drink it now 😂

Is 5 grams even enough to run the method properly I thought it was 40g?

40 g per 1000mL, and you only need 125 mL of that so I think it is about 5 g.

Don’t keep us ⭐️suspended! I’m really “stoked” to find out!⭐️. I need to know that kind of soil is the forbidden ice coffee?

Clay and silt ya lucky buck. The best soil

Silty clay loan feels the best. Clay is definitely a good one to throw at someone but not dig through.

You live in a day of the "automatic gasoline assisted plow"
Imbrase a bit of modern tech, clays great.
Gimme that covalent exchange capacity

*Cation exchange capacity! Definitely not covalent. Ions not electrons!

Lol, ya you right. This is what happens when you two biggest hobbies are gardening and electricity

Try doing soil samples in it where you aren't able to use that technology for your sampling.

I only recently moved into my forever home, which is very literally 75% sand. But previously I lived in a place that had clay so thick I could make pottery. I actually had several successful homemade clay pots.
My best assistant was the hoola hoe. Get the ground dry and hard, scrape, then water hard with fertilizer.

Actual question, why is clay soil good? My soil is very clay heavy and i sometimes struggle getting things to grow well, my berry bushes are feequently fighting disease and im always thinking more loose aerated soil would be nicer.
