Product Render Long-Time Lurker, First-Time Poster
Hey everyone!
I’ve been quietly following this community for quite a while, and I just wanted to say thanks for all the great content, help, and support you guys share here. I thought it was about time to introduce myself and share some of my own work with you.
I’m a mechanical engineer and have been working with SolidWorks since 2008. I’ve pretty much taught myself everything over the years, from standard part modeling and sheet metal to weldments and surface modeling.
But my real passion is rendering, especially vehicles!
Both vehicles you see here are based on real vehicles that existed in the past. I modeled and rendered both of them entirely myself.
If you have any questions about my work or workflow, feel free to ask. I’ll do my best to answer them!
Looking forward to sharing more of my work with you all!
Edit: First of all, thanks for the great feedback. Since I was asked, here are the images directly from SolidWorks and Visualize. I can't add pictures to this post, so I had to make a second post.

Looks great! What software do you use for your renders?

Solidworks Visualize

Damn, great work. I've used visualize before and I can get somewhat convincing renders but it's always a struggle. Got any tips?

Hi, as someone who is working in solidworks what would you advice on this type of modeling? Did you photos from top/front/side view and then drew surfaces? Would you share a picture how model works in model environment without renders?
This is great thing man.

Yes a bit more in details but you hit the spot. Blueprints (top, sides, front and rear) and a lot of photos (for details). And yes I can share some unrendered shots of the model and the modeled studio.
Edit: in first place keep it simple until the outer surface hit the right shape, afterwards export to step or parasolid and start detailing step by step.

This looks awesome! Can I ask about the headlight and taillight renders? Im curious if the texture and feel of the rendered result is actually light playing with the geometry of model? or some texture map?

Yes it’s texture mapping on a transparent surface. There are three surface in the lights. Outer surface is clear and colored, red for example, middle surface is bound to bump mapping texture and the inner surface brings the reflector for the light source.

Das war mein 1.8t, aber lustig auch das der legendäre Clip hier bei mir in der Nähe auf der A17 aufgenommen wurde 😅

What are the specs of your desktop? Please consider making a video of how you go from blueprint to general surface model of the body!

Bro if you want I will check if I have the file of my 1st version, that means the pre surface state, I could shared it with you. That means the native Solidworks file

That would be greatly appreciated. I've made a few attempts but never completed larger surfacing projects.

Nice Project :) People would appreciate it more if you posted the raw picture using SW. I can't believe you also made it on Visualize! That's sick

Mk4 wagon on whitewalls and red steelies is a vibe I didn’t know I needed. Any tips for getting reflections that clean on curved surfaces?

Those reflections / representation of optics inside the head and rear lights are very impressive.

Nah at the beginning it looks crazy, but at the end it’s easier as it looks.

Wow, I thought this dubber posted in the wrong sub.
Nope, those are renders 👍👍👍
No wonder the paint looks like that on an MKIII.
Congratulations, that is one hell of a skill you got there.

Ew, that's ugly. You should achieve higher continuity for car body.

Not everyone needs class-a surfacing, really recommend you learn it would improve your results 10 fold, going from g1 to g3 is life changing!

:0 wow, amazing. I would not believe it would be so photorealistic the renders unless you say it. In which solidworks version did you do that?
