This was the second hinge replacement since bought btw

Post image

Not even after using sony’s tech service.

Thank you sony, very nice. I’m going straight to bose now.

Just bought my first sennheiser because of this exact thing. Hadn't even realized it able to be fixed, but I had my set for some years now anyway

It looks like this. Currently only seeing 30 dollar ones. Try searching for those chinese ones to make it cheaper Only downside i noticed is it kinda hard to place now in the portable bag. You only need to just screw it in

Lmao someone told me on this sub that everyone with a broken hinge issue is just bad at taking care of their “expensive headphones”

The fuck is your point

Should've got those Sennheiser M4, M5, hdb630

You can 3d print hinge reinforcer to minimize the chance of this from happening again

Do you happen to know where I could get said files? I tried searching for them without ever finding them.

u/refinedm5 WH-1000Xm4 1d ago

You can find some here

u/LaddieNowAddie 1d ago

You shouldn't have to. That's the point.

How people break this? Mine have 2-3 years of use and they are like new.

u/Lluis__ 1d ago

Las mías también, como nuevos los auriculares tras 1.200 horas.

Because Sony has shit qc and its a probability thing not a certainty… good for you for not having a dud

u/Prime-TF 1d ago

That white mark is mighty suspicious. Did you drop it by any chance?

2

u/vicgrayson 1d ago

It’s a superglue stain, I tried to fix it myself the first time with no results

I love Sony but no freaking way I’m buying the XM5 or XM6. I went from the GOAT(XM4) to the durable af Collexion. I don’t think those hinges will fail.

This is the way.

xm6 doesn’t have this issue i got my xm6 for 220$

Bro how u use your sony headphones??

I think u use them so much rough

If u take a little bit of care . I don't think hinges will break

3

u/Brokenlynx7 2d ago

Sony are cheap plastic so the hinges break easier it’s not the original poster’s fault when it’s happening to everyone as the exact same spot.

-1

u/ayurvedadoctor_aman 2d ago

That’s a fair point since it’s happened to so many other users, but I’m currently using the Sony WH-CH720N and really hoping I don’t run into that issue too! 🎧

No I get it happening it finally happened to me after 3 years but if you some how manage to break it 3 times, I think it's also user error at that point.

If it was user error, you'd expect the damage to show up in different places. Scuffed cups, a bent headband, broken buttons. Instead it's the same hinge, same spot, every time, and nothing else on the headphones fails. That's what a weak part looks like.

It's also not just OP. Sony has its own support page for headband repair on this model, there was a US class action over it (Kanter v. Sony), and there's a whole market of third party XM5 replacement hinge kits on Amazon selling hundreds a month. Nobody builds a parts market around something that only breaks when people abuse it.

Breaking it once after 3 years is lucky. Breaking it 3 times under normal use is the defect doing its propability thing and breaking…

Ahh I didn't know it was that bad for everyone perhaps I got lucky, yea fuck Sony. Edit damnn you used ai

I mean I kind of use it like any other headphones really, gym, music, walking.

The first time they broke was when I in a plane and I fell asleep, my head tilted and the pressure made them break.

The second time my maid just grabbed them to clean them and they snapped.

Third time, I was just using them normally listening to music in my laptop and the hinge cracked.

I really wanted them to last, I love the way they sound, it’s just a shame and I tried using them broken like that but my neck hurts after a few minutes because it has to adjust to the weight.

there are 3d printed reinforcement kits to fix this that are also like 40$ they clamp over the hinge portion and still have mobility

xm5s just arent that good, xm6s are such an upgrade but i understand the bose senn swap

My XM5 hinge has snapped but all that happens is the left cup rotates all the way but it still works. Got insurance on it so I get the insurance money and use until it breaks :) then back to Bose Ultra.
