Hello. Happy weekend wherever you are in this world.
This is an isolated vocal video I put together a while back. Was talking with a friend today about the GOAT of hard rock and/or metal. It's probably obvious who gets my vote.
I got back home and had to email him this vid, just so he understands. He was a fan back in the day, but not a hardcore. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zbCHogNFW_U

Does anyone know of anywhere the audiobook version is available in the UK? Everywhere I look I get messages about publisher restrictions. I've only used Audible so far but wasn't sure if there's a trusted DRM free audiobook seller

Just got this in today! My favorite tune off DotU, and the b side Karaoke is a real sleeper hit; so sleeper that I HAD NEVER HEARD IT BEFORE!!! I’m pretty shocked, since I fancy myself a pretty learned Soundgarden fan, and because it sounds so good! Very happy with this purchase!!!

Gillian Gaar, who wrote for The Rocket in Seattle in the 90s, has a great new book out a book today. There was quite a bit in there I didn’t know about, but I was 14 and living on the east coast when Nevermind came out, I probably knew less than I thought I did!
In an interview, Gillian told me about the bands that could’ve made it big and didn’t, Kurt Cobain’s fatigue with the press even before Nevermind was released and landing a big interview with Courtney Love after the infamous Vanity Fair issues.
I hope you enjoy my piece, and I highly recommend that you check out the book.

I absolutely love Zero Chance, the guitar and bass lines are beautiful, Chris' vocals are phenomenal. I tried getting into other songs like Fresh Tendrils and The Day I Tried to Live, but it hasn't clicked for me yet. Appreciate any recommendations :)

I was a bit of a late bloomer with Soundgarden, but they’ve become such an instrumental part of my musical identity. Head Down has become such a favorite of mine, though as I was first listening the song was weird to me. Anywho, great band, great music all the way through and just wanted to share. Rock on.

Just saw it and found it a little haunting, only saw it a few hours ago.

Adding to my collection! To the left is the Fell On Black Days single, right is The Day i Tried To Live. While I do love both A sides, i really bought these 2 for their B sides; Kyle Petty and Like Suicide (Acoustic) are some of my favorite SU era songs, and owning physical copies is a big deal for me!

I felt a little Minnesota today so I whipped out Photoshop to try out more of an artstyle I've been practicing. It's more of missing our guy right here more than anything! I don't know why I chose this color combination but somehow it reminded me of a special cover release of Badmotorfinger.
I hope you're missing a little of him today, or all day. Still one of the celebrity deaths that impacted me.

Still have this “Motorvision” VHS. Used to listen to Little Joe all the time!

I've never seen anyone mention this but they're ALL 6'1" or taller?! Even Hiro's taller than 6 feet (correct me if I'm wrong). Have there been any other rock bands historically this tall?
edit: discussed in this thread https://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/tallest-bands.1146797/

Still very much getting used to faces in watercolour but here’s an attempt of Chris in the 90s :)

Like "Ground Zero" and "You Know My Name," it was not released on Chris Cornell's channel; it was the fifth and final single from *Scream*, released in December 2008.

35 years ago today, Soundgarden released Badmotorfinger. As much as I wish I got to see Chris Cornell live more than once (as ashamed as I am to admit, part of me took his incredible talent for granted and I always assumed I'd have plenty of chances to see the singer live), I'm so thankful I got to see him onstage at least once - it was Soundgarden's co-headlining tour with Nine Inch Nails at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, NJ (Aug. 2, 2014). Needless to say, they sounded fantastic - especially while playing songs off this album like "Outshine" and "Rusty Cage".
Share your favorite memories from seeing Soundgarden live in the comments below. And stay tuned for more things to come from this space, including stories from concerts like this.

I think because their catalogue span so long, this is a discussion I’d love to have with some of you. There are some killer tones throughout their whole discography, earlier tones tended to be heavier and chuggier while later ones tended to be more open and free. I was wondering what some of your favorites are. Here are some of mine.
Fell On Black Days, specifically the one from the video version, has to be my favorite, it’s such a beautiful tone with not as much distortion compared to the album version, but god it is so buttery smooth with a lot of clarity and beautiful high ends. While I absolutely love the tone from the album version, and it probably is the best if you’re counting only album versions of songs, I prefer the video version.
Rusty Cage is one of those weird, strange guitar tones that just scratches my brain in a way few tones could. That weird octavy sound just gives the riff so much life and energy while still being heavy. And when they go to the breakdown, it just hits so hard.
4th of July is another favorite of mine. Muddy, sludgy, gross and disgusting in the best way possible. It’s the heaviest tone they’ve ever had in my opinion, and it gives the song such a dark and demented energy, paired with the weird low tuning, just matched made in hell.
Some honorable mentioned include The Day I Tried to Live, Mailman, Kristi, Gun and Slaves & Bulldozers.
Love to know some of your guys’ favorite tones!
