He watches a Discovery Channel documentary or reads something a scientist has said and then kinda repeats it in a dumber way, but where he / his company does it.

That’s a summary of his whole life: He sees something, then learn the buzzwords, pretend he either invented or will create a better version of it, does nothing, and gets praised for being “a genius”.
He’s literally what dumb people think smart people are. And not a single person who’s actually smart say out loud how smart they are. Smart people usually deal with so many questions in their minds that they question everything, including their own intelligence.
“I’m so smart… look at me”, say the dumbest, loneliest, most pathetic rich guy.

Doesn’t even matter if he was “just waving” or whatever… the sentiment is the same. He’s hijacking democratic institutions and posing to be faux-patriotic for personal profit and power. On X, he even re-posts anti-democracy content. He’s not even hiding it.

I do wonder if the systems to build wealth pre-select for insanity, or if the amount of power that comes with wealth drives people to insanity.
A lot of the members of the 1% are like this.

Both. Psychopathy allows for the accumulation of power, then inherited wealth keeps it in the family

Here in Australia we unfortunately have a large cane toad that has taken human form and called itself Gina Rinehart. She is one Australia's richest people, worth about US$30 billion.
Because of the hard work she put into creating her wealth (inheriting the entire lot from her father) she has decided that makes her a genius who the rest of us need to listen to. While she spouts trumpian nonsense and bankrolls fringe rightwing political parties (who are not so fringe anymore due to her money).
If you listen to her speak, it is one of the cringiest, painful things ever. She, like musk, has absolute zero idea how to speak publicly. Because she, like musk, has lived her entire life surrounded by immense wealth and, subsequently, immense number of toadying sycophantic yes-men who tell her she made a great speech today.
Take this sterling example of her inability to speak publicly (skip to 1min 40s mark). Yet I guarantee when she waddled off-stage and asked her flunky how did her speech go, they replied "fantastic ma'am! The entire crowd were enthralled! And such a hilarious idea to have them make bulldozer noises! I would never have thought of such a clever humorous thing!"
Gina the Hutt ranks up with Leon Skum for reverse charisma.

u/B3telgeus3 Jul 24 '26
All the money in the world can buy you a little bit of charisma, this guy has zero literally.
"umm... i think... yeah... umm... huh... mars ... yes.. if you think about it... it's pretty simple actually... umm... it just a umm a datacenter in space ... it's cool .. but yeah ...." fucking lord this guy is so uninteresting lol.

Colony on Mars by 2021 -- Elon Musk
---redefining here means "in the next 6-9 months" - forever

u/heybigbuddy Jul 24 '26
It’s always useful when people make such grandiose claims and don’t cite a single example. Most people - even ones who aren’t ego-driven monsters like Musk - would at least name one thing if talking about how great they are.
The more important thing, though, is that if he ever is right, there is a big difference between seeing something coming in the future and using your tremendous wealth and power to make a future of your choosing. If I paint my bathroom wall red, it wouldn’t mean much to say I predicted it before hand when I just made it so.

There are literally books about why what he is saying is bs
Expert Political Judgment The classic work on this topic. Tetlock studied 28,000+ predictions made by hundreds of political experts over two decades. Main finding: experts were often only slightly better than chance, and the most famous and confident experts were frequently among the least accurate.
Superforecasting A follow-up to Expert Political Judgment. Shows that accurate forecasting is a skill that can be learned. Surprisingly, ordinary people using good forecasting methods often outperform renowned experts.
Thinking, Fast and Slow Explains why experts become overconfident. Includes examples where professionals believed they could predict outcomes despite evidence to the contrary.
The Signal and the Noise Examines why prediction succeeds in some fields (e.g. weather forecasting) but fails in others (e.g. politics and economics). Discusses uncertainty, probability, and common forecasting mistakes.

the guy is a moron. he is successful. but still a moron. surrounded by more morons who are collectively interested in money and power and not betterment.
he has enough money and influence the future which is partly why his “predictions” are bullshit. whether the world can see the nonsense or not they will press on. I see Mango Unchained has been telling the public to “get used to data centres” to force it on us.
ludicrous!
i am not anti-ai btw. i am anti moron led technology. ai leaves a sour taste in peoples mouths not because of the technology. but because of the leadership insistence on forcing an unfinished product dressed in lies

2
u/indomike14 Jul 24 '26
He and trump have a lot in common. They think very highly of themselves and neither one knows when to stop talking.
2
2
u/ShitBirdingAround Jul 24 '26
He probably predicted that Trump would "win" in 2024 after he spent over 40 BILLION dollars turning twitter into a MAGA propaganda hellscape, spent hundreds of millions helping Trump campaign, and got his little toad friend Joe Rogan to simp for and endorse Trump for the young male incel-crowd. What a prediction.
Seems like there is a difference in predicting a future, and engineering a future with the money of the world's richest douche.
2
u/Silly-Power Jul 24 '26 edited Jul 25 '26
That makes zero sense. If he's so accurate at predicting the future, why would this make him a Cassandra? Rather, wouldn't all the major corporations take note of what skum is predicting and invest in those areas?
He thinks, what?, that because he was right so many times in the past (love my fully autonomous car Leon, and the 30 minute hyperloop commute between Sydney and London. Already planning my 3rd vacation to Mars at the end of this year) we all now assume he will be wrong? And when he isn't, we'll just assume his next utterance is wrong?
That's not Cassandra, it's Tall Poppy. He's only using Cassandra because of his hatefest for Nolan's Odyssey. Now he's using her name in a feeble attempt to make himself look learned and erudite. I guarantee if you had asked a month ago who Cassandra was he'd have stared at you blankly.

u/MouseShadow2ndMoon Jul 24 '26
Did this conversation take place on Mars? Oh.
- 2016: Musk first unveiled his plans to colonize the planet, estimating the first human missions could happen as early as 2024.
- 2020: He stated he was "highly confident" SpaceX would land humans on Mars by 2026.
- 2025: Musk updated his projections to launch an uncrewed Starship in 2026, setting the target for human landings between 2029 and 2031.
- 2026: In February, Musk announced SpaceX had temporarily shifted its primary focus from building a Mars city to constructing a "self-growing city on the Moon" because launch cycles are faster, noting a Mars city would begin later. [1, 2, 3, 4]

Autonomous Driving / Self-Driving
**•** Predicted Tesla drivers could summon their cars from anywhere by 2018 (e.g., from LA to NY), a capability that never materialized
**•** Suggested Tesla vehicles would achieve full self-driving capability by the end of 2017, but nearly a decade later Tesla’s Full Self-Driving system remains a driver-assistance feature requiring human supervision
**•** Made 21 predictions about autonomous vehicles with timelines, of which 19 failed to materialize according to a Wikipedia tracking page
**•** Repeatedly predicted full self-driving would arrive within 12 months—for the ninth year in a row as of 2026
Tesla Robotaxis
**•** In 2019, predicted autonomous robotaxis would be approved for operation “somewhere literally next year” and that owning anything but a Tesla by 2022 would be like owning a horse
**•** Predicted there would be more than one million Tesla robotaxis on the road by 2020, a forecast that never materialized
Mars Colony
**•** At various points, Musk suggested humans could begin building a Martian settlement as early as the mid-2020s, but as of 2026, nobody has planted a flag on Mars
**•** The timeline for establishing a million-person colony on Mars has continued to slip, with SpaceX still working toward the goal but the complex challenges proving far more daunting than Musk’s optimistic timeline suggested
Neuralink
**•** In 2019, predicted Neuralink human trials would begin by 2020, but the first human implant didn’t occur until 2024
**•** Also predicted Neuralink could “solve a lot of brain-related diseases… like autism,” which drew criticism as autism is not a disease
Tesla Solar Roof
**•** In 2016, predicted Tesla Solar Roof tiles would be cheaper than conventional roofs by 2019, but installation costs remained significantly higher than traditional solutions and scaling manufacturing proved more challenging than anticipated
Tesla Semi
**•** In 2017, announced Tesla Semi production would begin in 2019, but the first Tesla Semi trucks didn’t begin deliveries until late 2022
Hyperloop
**•** The Hyperloop concept promised to revolutionize transportation, but as of 2026, no commercial Hyperloop system is operating anywhere in the world
COVID-19 Predictions
**•** In March 2020, just days after the WHO declared COVID-19 a global pandemic, predicted there would be “probably close to zero new cases” in the US by the end of April, but daily case counts had surpassed 20,000 when his deadline arrived
Recent 2025 Promises
**•** Musk’s 2025 promises including sending people to Mars, deploying Tesla robotaxis, and achieving Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) at his xAI company have not been fulfilled
